Pamfilya b\u00f6lgesini, Side ve Perge antik kentlerini ortaya \u00e7\u0131karan ki\u015fidir. B\u00fct\u00fcn bunlar\u0131n yan\u0131 s\u0131ra, sa\u011flam mesleki birikimini geni\u015f k\u00fclt\u00fcr\u00fcyle tatland\u0131rarak anlatt\u0131\u011f\u0131 derslerine m\u00fcptela etti\u011fi \u00f6\u011frencilerinin de unutulmaz hocas\u0131\u2026<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>1933 y\u0131l\u0131 son aylar\u0131. \u0130stanbul Arkeoloji M\u00fczeleri\u2019nin gelecek vaat eden arkeologlar\u0131ndan biri, Dolmabah\u00e7e Saray\u0131\u2019na \u00e7a\u011fr\u0131l\u0131r. Gen\u00e7 \u00e7a\u011fr\u0131l\u0131, tam o s\u0131ralarda, askerlik g\u00f6revini yerine getirmek \u00fczere, piyade yedek subay\u0131 olmu\u015ftur. Asker \u00fcniformas\u0131 i\u00e7inde Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk\u2019\u00fcn kar\u015f\u0131s\u0131na \u00e7\u0131kan bu gen\u00e7, Arif M\u00fcfid\u2019den ba\u015fkas\u0131 de\u011fildir (1).<\/p>\n<p>\u00dclkenin Kurtulu\u015f Sava\u015f\u0131\u2019yla ellerinden kurtar\u0131ld\u0131\u011f\u0131 emperyalist devletler kar\u015f\u0131s\u0131nda g\u00fc\u00e7l\u00fc bir millet kimli\u011fi in\u015fa etmek ve ulus-devletin vatanda\u015flar\u0131n\u0131 bu kimlikte kayna\u015ft\u0131rmak isteyen Kemalist Devrim\u2019in \u00f6nc\u00fcs\u00fc Atat\u00fcrk, birka\u00e7 y\u0131l \u00f6nce, tarih ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar\u0131nda seferberlik ba\u015flatm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. T\u00fcrk tarihinin ara\u015ft\u0131r\u0131lmas\u0131 ve bu konuda temel yay\u0131nlar\u0131n \u00fcretilmesiyle ilgili \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar, Atat\u00fcrk\u2019\u00fcn \u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fcne dek ayn\u0131 seferberlik havas\u0131nda s\u00fcrecektir. \u00c7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n ba\u015fl\u0131calar\u0131 \u015funlard\u0131r: 1930\u2019da T\u00fcrk Tarihi Heyeti olu\u015fturulur, bu heyet \u00f6ncelikle Kemalist Devrim\u2019in tarih tezlerini i\u00e7eren <em>T\u00fcrk Tarihinin AnaHatlar\u0131<\/em> adl\u0131 kitab\u0131 haz\u0131rlar ve sadece 100 adet bas\u0131lan kitap, fikirleri al\u0131nmak \u00fczere uzmanlara da\u011f\u0131t\u0131l\u0131r. 1931\u2019de, sonradan T\u00fcrk Tarihi Kurumu (TTK) ad\u0131n\u0131 alacak T\u00fcrk Tarih Tetkiki Cemiyeti kurulur, gene 1931\u2019de okullarda okutulmak \u00fczere d\u00f6rt ciltlik <em>Tarih<\/em> kitab\u0131 haz\u0131rlan\u0131r ve yeni tarih g\u00f6r\u00fc\u015f\u00fc ve tarih \u00f6\u011fretiminde izlenecek yolun \u00f6\u011fretmenlere aktar\u0131lmas\u0131 amac\u0131yla 1. T\u00fcrk Tarih Kongresi d\u00fczenlenir. Bir yandan, <em>T\u00fcrk Tarihinin Ana Hatlar\u0131<\/em>\u2019n\u0131n uzmanlara ba\u015fvurularak yeniden yazd\u0131r\u0131lmas\u0131 s\u00fcreci ilerlemektedir. 1937\u2019de ise, T\u00fcrk tarihinin a\u00e7\u0131klanmas\u0131 ve belgelenmesi amac\u0131yla d\u00fczenlenen 2. T\u00fcrk Tarih Kongresi uluslararas\u0131 bir nitelikle ger\u00e7ekle\u015fir.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Cumhuriyet\u2019in tarih seferberli\u011finde Arif M\u00fcfid de yerini al\u0131r<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u0130\u015fte, Arif M\u00fcfid\u2019in Dolmabah\u00e7e\u2019ye \u00e7a\u011fr\u0131lmas\u0131 da bu hummal\u0131 \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalarla ilgilidir. Atat\u00fcrk kendisinden, <em>T\u00fcrk Tarihinin Ana Hatlar\u0131<\/em>\u2019n\u0131n 4. b\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fc olan, Orta \u015eark\u2019\u0131n B paragraf\u0131n\u0131, yani \u0130ran\u2019\u0131 yazmas\u0131n\u0131 istemektedir. Arif M\u00fcfid\u2019in 1934\u2019de, <em>T\u00fcrk Tarihinin Ana Hatlar\u0131 M\u00fcsveddeleri<\/em> aras\u0131nda bas\u0131lacak olan <em>\u0130ran\u2019\u0131n Tarih ve Arkeolojisi <\/em>ba\u015fl\u0131kl\u0131 yap\u0131t\u0131, b\u00f6ylelikle ortaya \u00e7\u0131kar. Aradan birka\u00e7 y\u0131l ge\u00e7tikten sonra, 1935\u2019de soyad\u0131 kanunuyla Mansel soyad\u0131n\u0131 alm\u0131\u015f olan Arif M\u00fcfid, <em>T\u00fcrk Tarihinin Ana Hatlar\u0131<\/em>\u2019n\u0131n Ege Medeniyeti b\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fcyle ilgili malzeme toplamak \u00fczere, TTK taraf\u0131ndan Yunanistan\u2019a inceleme yapmaya da g\u00f6nderilecektir. (2).<\/p>\n<p>Tarih biliminin, \u00fclkenin \u00f6nc\u00fclerinin bizzat y\u00f6nlendirmesiyle, en parlak d\u00f6nemini ya\u015fad\u0131\u011f\u0131 Cumhuriyet\u2019in bu taze y\u0131llar\u0131, alan\u0131nda kuvvetli uzmanlar\u0131n ya\u015famlar\u0131n\u0131n ve \u00f6zellikle \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n\u0131n bu do\u011frultuda bi\u00e7imlendi\u011fi zamanlard\u0131r. <em>T\u00fcrk Tarihinin Ana Hatlar\u0131<\/em> kitab\u0131n\u0131n yeniden \u00fcretiminde \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmak, Arif M\u00fcfid\u2019in de tarih \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131na olan ilgisini per\u00e7inleyecek; \u00f6mr\u00fc boyunca, arkeolojinin yan\u0131 s\u0131ra tarih alan\u0131nda da bir k\u0131sm\u0131 ders kitab\u0131 olarak da okutulacak yap\u0131tlar \u00fcretecektir. Atat\u00fcrk\u2019\u00fcn kurdu\u011fu TTK\u2019dan 1936\u2019dan itibaren g\u00f6revler alacak, kurumun 1938\u2019den itibaren etkin bir \u00fcyesi olacak ve dergisi <em>Belleten<\/em>\u2019de \u00e7ok say\u0131da makale yay\u0131mlayacak, yap\u0131tlar\u0131n\u0131n \u00f6nemli bir b\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fcn\u00fc kurum basacak, gene kaz\u0131 \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n\u0131 TTK ad\u0131na ve onun maddi deste\u011fiyle y\u00fcr\u00fctecektir.<\/p>\n<p>Atat\u00fcrk\u2019\u00fcn son y\u0131llar\u0131nda, 1936-38 aras\u0131nda arkeoloji \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131 b\u00fcy\u00fck \u00f6nem kazanm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Arif M\u00fcfid 1932\u2019de, Atat\u00fcrk\u2019\u00fcn ilgisini \u00e7eken eski eserler bar\u0131nd\u0131ran Yalova\u2019da kaz\u0131lar yapar. Termal\u2019de kapl\u0131ca binas\u0131 \u00e7evresinde yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 ara\u015ft\u0131rmalarda, kur\u015funlu banyo duvar\u0131nda 5 tane adak ta\u015f\u0131, itfaiyenin yan\u0131ndaki 4 adet mezarta\u015f\u0131, kilise dehlizleri ve ba\u015fl\u0131k s\u00fctunlar\u0131 bulur.<\/p>\n<p>Gene 1936\u2019da Atat\u00fcrk\u2019\u00fcn iste\u011fi \u00fczerine, TTK taraf\u0131ndan Trakya B\u00f6lgesi\u2019nde kaz\u0131lar y\u00fcr\u00fctmekle g\u00f6revlendirilir. Mansel\u2019in Trakya kaz\u0131lar\u0131, \u00fclkemiz bilimcileri taraf\u0131ndan klasik arkeoloji alan\u0131nda yap\u0131lan ilk y\u00f6ntemli ve sistemli alan ara\u015ft\u0131rmas\u0131d\u0131r (3).<\/p>\n<p>Arif M\u00fcfid, \u00f6ncelikle Trakya\u2019n\u0131n k\u00fclt\u00fcr ve tarihini ara\u015ft\u0131r\u0131r, \u00e7evrede y\u00fczey ara\u015ft\u0131rmas\u0131 yapar. MS 6. y\u00fczy\u0131la kadar gelen s\u00fcre\u00e7te, Trak k\u00f6ylerinin, \u015fehirlerinin, yollar\u0131n\u0131n, ikliminin, \u00fcr\u00fcnlerinin, madenlerinin, halk\u0131n\u0131n, topluluklar\u0131n\u0131n, giysilerinin, silahlar\u0131n\u0131n, sosyal ya\u015fam\u0131n\u0131n izini s\u00fcrer ve Makedonya bask\u0131s\u0131 ve Roma egemenli\u011fi \u00fczerinde durur. Trakya\u2019da s\u0131kl\u0131kla rastlanan t\u00fcm\u00fcl\u00fcsleri belirler ve bunlardan Alpullu, Hask\u00f6y, L\u00fcleburgaz, Vize, K\u0131rklareli t\u00fcm\u00fcl\u00fcslerinde 4 y\u0131l boyunca kaz\u0131lar yapar. \u00c7al\u0131\u015fmalar, yeni bilgilerle \u00e7ok de\u011ferli bulgulara ula\u015ft\u0131r\u0131r.<\/p>\n<p>Atat\u00fcrk Mansel\u2019den, 2. T\u00fcrk Tarih Kongresi kapsam\u0131nda, Dolmabah\u00e7e Saray\u0131\u2019nda, Trakya t\u00fcm\u00fcl\u00fcs buluntular\u0131n\u0131 sergilemesini ister. Arif M\u00fcfid bunun \u00fczerine \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n\u0131 L\u00fcleburgaz-Umurca t\u00fcm\u00fcl\u00fcslerinde yo\u011funla\u015ft\u0131r\u0131r. Bir k\u0131sm\u0131 soyulmu\u015f olan t\u00fcm\u00fcl\u00fcslerde, el de\u011fmemi\u015f iki kad\u0131n mezar\u0131 ortaya \u00e7\u0131kar\u0131r. MS 200 y\u0131l\u0131na tarihlenen mezarlardan, alt\u0131n ve g\u00fcm\u00fc\u015f s\u00fcs e\u015fyalar\u0131, tun\u00e7, cam ve pi\u015fmi\u015f toprak kap kacaklar, \u015famdanlar, kandiller, makyaj e\u015fyalar\u0131 ile birtak\u0131m sikkeler ele ge\u00e7er.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c7al\u0131\u015fmalar s\u00fcrmekteyken, Trakya askeri manevralar\u0131ndan d\u00f6nen Atat\u00fcrk\u2019\u00fcn kaz\u0131 alan\u0131na gelece\u011fi haberi duyulur. Ancak Atat\u00fcrk, ald\u0131\u011f\u0131 ani bir haber \u00fczerine \u0130stanbul\u2019a d\u00f6nm\u00fc\u015ft\u00fcr. \u0130ki g\u00fcn ge\u00e7mez, Trakya Genel M\u00fcfetti\u015fi General Kaz\u0131m Dirik, Bolu Milletvekili Cevat Abbas G\u00fcrer ve Prof. Dr. Afet \u0130nan kaz\u0131 yerini ziyaret ederler. Arif M\u00fcfid bu olay\u0131 \u015f\u00f6yle yorumlayacakt\u0131r: \u201cBu husus Atat\u00fcrk\u2019\u00fcn nas\u0131l bir takip fikrine sahip oldu\u011funu g\u00f6stermesi bak\u0131m\u0131ndan \u00f6nemlidir. Kendisi bu kaz\u0131y\u0131 yapt\u0131rmakla kalmam\u0131\u015f, yap\u0131lan i\u015fler ve elde edilen sonu\u00e7larla yak\u0131ndan ilgilenmi\u015f, zorlay\u0131c\u0131 sebepler y\u00fcz\u00fcnden bizzat gelememekle beraber bu i\u015f hakk\u0131nda bilgi edinmek \u00fczere bir heyet g\u00f6revlendirmi\u015fti\u201d (4). Umurca buluntular\u0131 ger\u00e7ekten de 2. Tarih Kongresi s\u0131ras\u0131nda, Dolmabah\u00e7e\u2019de sergilenir. Arif M\u00fcfid kongrede Ege tarihinde Akalar konulu geni\u015f bir bildiri de sunar.<\/p>\n<p>Atat\u00fcrk ayn\u0131 y\u0131l, TBMM\u2019yi a\u00e7\u0131\u015f konu\u015fmas\u0131nda \u015funlar\u0131 s\u00f6yler: \u201cTarih Kurumu, yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 kongre, kurdu\u011fu sergi, yurti\u00e7indeki hafirlerin ortaya \u00e7\u0131kard\u0131\u011f\u0131 eserlerle \u015fimdiden b\u00fct\u00fcn ilim d\u00fcnyas\u0131na k\u00fclt\u00fcrel vazifesini ifaya ba\u015flam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r\u201d (5).<\/p>\n<p>\u0130lk tarih \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n\u0131 ve kaz\u0131lar\u0131n\u0131, Atat\u00fcrk\u2019\u00fcn ve TTK\u2019n\u0131n y\u00f6nlendirmesiyle ger\u00e7ekle\u015ftirmi\u015f olmakla birlikte Arif M\u00fcfid, baz\u0131 kaynaklarda yanl\u0131\u015f olarak ge\u00e7ti\u011fi gibi, Atat\u00fcrk\u2019\u00fcn 1930\u2019larda e\u011fitim almas\u0131 i\u00e7in Almanya\u2019ya g\u00f6nderdi\u011fi \u00f6\u011frencilerden de\u011fildir. Arkeoloji e\u011fitimine 1925\u2019de Almanya\u2019da ba\u015flam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r, ama bunu bamba\u015fka birine bor\u00e7ludur.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Arif M\u00fcfid mimar olmak istemektedir ama\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Arif M\u00fcfid Mansel\u2019in dedesi, mabeyn k\u00e2tipli\u011fi, sadrazam mektup\u00e7ulu\u011fu ve sadrazam m\u00fcste\u015farl\u0131\u011f\u0131 yapm\u0131\u015f, 1893\u2019de vezir olmu\u015f Tevfik Pa\u015fa\u2019d\u0131r (1840-1917). 2. Me\u015frutiyet\u2019te Orman ve Madenler Naz\u0131r\u0131 ve Devlet \u015euras\u0131 Ba\u015fkan\u0131 olmu\u015f, istifas\u0131ndan sonra da \u00c2yan Meclisi \u00fcyeli\u011fine se\u00e7ilmi\u015ftir. Tevfik Pa\u015fa, Arif M\u00fcfid\u2019in annesi Fatma Zehra\u2019n\u0131n babas\u0131d\u0131r. Arif M\u00fcfit\u2019in babas\u0131 Mehmet M\u00fcfid ise, Vak\u0131flar Bakanl\u0131\u011f\u0131\u2019nda \u00f6zel kalem m\u00fcd\u00fcr\u00fcd\u00fcr.<\/p>\n<p>Mehmed Abd\u00fclbaki \u00f6nadlar\u0131n\u0131 da ta\u015f\u0131yan Arif M\u00fcfid, 1905\u2019de ailenin Sultanahmet\u2019deki kona\u011f\u0131nda d\u00fcnyaya gelir. Sarayla ilintili, k\u00fclt\u00fcrl\u00fc bir ailenin \u00e7ocu\u011fu olarak, k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck ya\u015ftan itibaren sa\u011flam bir e\u011fitim g\u00f6r\u00fcr. \u0130lk\u00f6\u011frenimini k\u0131smen \u00f6zel olarak, k\u0131smen Alman okulunda yapar; orta\u00f6\u011freniminiyse Saint Benoit Lisesi\u2019nde 1925\u2019de tamamlar. B\u00f6ylelikle 20 ya\u015f\u0131na hen\u00fcz ula\u015fm\u0131\u015f Arif M\u00fcfit, Almancas\u0131 ve Frans\u0131zcas\u0131 ile okumak istedi\u011fi b\u00f6l\u00fcme, mimarl\u0131\u011fa (6) haz\u0131rd\u0131r. Ancak hayat bu y\u00f6nde akmayacakt\u0131r\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Arkeolog Theodor Wiegand meslekta\u015f\u0131 Halil Edhem Eldem\u2019e (7) bir mektup yazarak, Berlin M\u00fczeleri\u2019nin \u0130stanbul Arkeoloji M\u00fczeleri\u2019ne \u015f\u00fckran borcunu \u00f6demek \u00fczere, 2 tane T\u00fcrk gencinin Almanya\u2019da arkeoloji e\u011fitimi almalar\u0131 i\u00e7in gerekli bursu sa\u011flamay\u0131 \u00fcstlendi\u011fini bildirir ve bu gen\u00e7lerin se\u00e7imini Halil Edhem Bey\u2019e b\u0131rak\u0131r. Halil Edhem\u2019in ayda 300 Markl\u0131k bursla arkeoloji e\u011fitimi almas\u0131n\u0131 d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnd\u00fc\u011f\u00fc adaylardan biri, aile dostlar\u0131n\u0131n o\u011flu Arif M\u00fcfid\u2019dir (8).<\/p>\n<p>Bu \u015fekilde Almanya\u2019ya giden Arif M\u00fcfid, Berlin \u00dcniversitesi\u2019nde, d\u00f6nemin \u00fcnl\u00fc akademisyenlerinden ald\u0131\u011f\u0131 klasik arkeoloji e\u011fitiminin yan\u0131 s\u0131ra, ilk\u00e7a\u011f tarihi, Eski Yunanca ve Latince de \u00f6\u011frenir. 1929 May\u0131s\u2019\u0131nda diplomas\u0131n\u0131 alarak yurda d\u00f6nd\u00fc\u011f\u00fcnde, Dr. Phil. unvan\u0131n\u0131 da ta\u015f\u0131maktad\u0131r. Arif M\u00fcfid\u2019in Prof. Noack\u2019\u0131n dan\u0131\u015fmanl\u0131\u011f\u0131nda yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131, Do\u011fu Akdeniz b\u00f6lgesindeki \u00e7ok katl\u0131 yap\u0131 tiplerini inceledi\u011fi ve cephe d\u00fczenleri \u00fczerine g\u00f6r\u00fc\u015fler ileri s\u00fcrd\u00fc\u011f\u00fc \u201cYunanl\u0131 ve Romal\u0131larda Kat \u0130n\u015faat\u0131\u201d ba\u015fl\u0131kl\u0131 doktora tezi, birka\u00e7 y\u0131l i\u00e7inde Almanca olarak bas\u0131ld\u0131\u011f\u0131nda, sa\u011flam metodu, a\u00e7\u0131k dili ve kaynaklar ile bibliyografyaya h\u00e2kim olu\u015fu ile yurtd\u0131\u015f\u0131nda da ba\u015far\u0131l\u0131 bir ara\u015ft\u0131rma ve sentez denemesi olarak kabul edilecektir (9).<\/p>\n<p>Mansel, d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnden \u00fc\u00e7 ay sonra, \u0130stanbul Arkeoloji M\u00fczeleri\u2019ne m\u00fcd\u00fcr yard\u0131mc\u0131s\u0131 olarak atan\u0131r. O tarihte h\u00e2l\u00e2 m\u00fcd\u00fcrl\u00fck g\u00f6revini y\u00fcr\u00fctmekte olan Halil Edhem\u2019in, arkeoloji e\u011fitimine \u00f6nayak oldu\u011fu zamandan beri, Arif M\u00fcfid\u2019i ileride m\u00fczenin y\u00f6neticisi olmas\u0131 hedefiyle yeti\u015ftirmek istedi\u011fi rahatl\u0131kla d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fclebilir. Balaban A\u011fa Mescidi, Laleli\u2019de eski bir Bizans yap\u0131s\u0131d\u0131r. 1909 Mercan yang\u0131n\u0131nda harap olan mescidin arazisi Vak\u0131flar taraf\u0131ndan sat\u0131l\u0131nca, bina yeni sahibi taraf\u0131ndan y\u0131kt\u0131r\u0131l\u0131r. Hen\u00fcz bir y\u0131l ge\u00e7mi\u015fken, 1936\u2019da Edebiyat Fak\u00fcltesi Arif M\u00fcfid\u2019i, ilk\u00e7a\u011f tarihi do\u00e7enti olarak atar. Bossert ba\u015fkanl\u0131\u011f\u0131nda yap\u0131land\u0131r\u0131lan Arkeoloji B\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fc\u2019nde de dersler verecektir.<\/p>\n<p>Mansel, 1936\u2019da ba\u015flad\u0131\u011f\u0131 Trakya kaz\u0131lar\u0131na devam ederken, 1938\u2019den itibaren \u0130stanbul Arkeoloji M\u00fczeleri ad\u0131na K\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck\u00e7ekmece\u2019deki kal\u0131nt\u0131lar \u00fczerinde Aziz Ogan ile birlikte kaz\u0131lar y\u00fcr\u00fctmeye ba\u015flam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. M\u00fcze salonu ya da k\u00fct\u00fcphanesinde dersler, seminerler d\u00fczenleyecek, arkeolog adaylar\u0131n\u0131n m\u00fczenin k\u00fclt\u00fcrel atmosferini s\u00fcrekli solumas\u0131n\u0131 sa\u011flayacakt\u0131r.<\/p>\n<p>Mansel, 1946\u2019da Klasik Arkeoloji K\u00fcrs\u00fcs\u00fc\u2019n\u00fc kurar. Antalya ve \u00e7evresindeki Eski Pamfilya ve Pisidya b\u00f6lgesini birka\u00e7 kez gezmi\u015f, antik kaynaklar ve literat\u00fcrde s\u00f6z\u00fc ge\u00e7en yerle\u015fmeleri dola\u015fm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. 1943\u2019de yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 inceleme gezisiyle Lanckoronski\u2019nin <em>Pamphylia ve Pisidia Kentleri<\/em> adl\u0131 eserinde ad\u0131 ge\u00e7en yerle\u015fmelerin o g\u00fcnk\u00fc durumlar\u0131n\u0131 tespit eder. Bu incelemenin sonu\u00e7lar\u0131n\u0131 <em>Belleten<\/em> dergisinde yay\u0131mlar ve Termessos, Perge, Sillyon, Side ve Aspendos gibi antik \u015fehirlerin i\u00e7inde kaz\u0131lara en uygun yer olarak Side\u2019yi \u00f6nerir. Raporda, bu k\u00fclt\u00fcrlerin ortaya \u00e7\u0131kar\u0131lmas\u0131n\u0131 milli bir vazife olarak g\u00f6rd\u00fc\u011f\u00fcn\u00fc, bu k\u00fclt\u00fcrlerdeki Anadolu etkisini b\u00fcy\u00fck bir \u00f6ng\u00f6r\u00fcyle vurgulayarak, belirtir:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBu \u015fehirlerde bug\u00fcn toprak \u00fczerinde duran binalar\u0131n b\u00fcy\u00fck bir k\u0131sm\u0131 Roma \u0130mparatorluk Devrine, yani MS 2.-3. y\u00fczy\u0131la aittir. Bu halde Anadolu\u2019nun bu verimli k\u00fclt\u00fcr b\u00f6lgesindeki an\u0131tlar\u0131n ara\u015ft\u0131r\u0131lmas\u0131 bizim i\u00e7in milli bir vazifedir\u201d (12).<\/p>\n<p>T\u00fcrk Tarih Kurumu, M\u00fczeler Genel M\u00fcd\u00fcrl\u00fc\u011f\u00fc, \u0130\u00dc Edebiyat Fak\u00fcltesi\u2019nden sa\u011flanan \u00f6deneklerle ilk kaz\u0131lar 1946\u2019da Perge\u2019de, 1947\u2019de Side\u2019de ba\u015flar. Arif M\u00fcfid, ya\u015fam\u0131n\u0131n geri kalan yakla\u015f\u0131k 30 y\u0131l\u0131nda, kendini b\u00fct\u00fcn\u00fcyle Perge ve Side kaz\u0131lar\u0131na verir. \u00d6\u011frencilerinin doktoralar\u0131n\u0131, do\u00e7entlik tezlerini bu yerle\u015fmelerde yapmalar\u0131n\u0131 sa\u011flar (13). Mansel\u2019in de, bundan sonra kaleme alaca\u011f\u0131 raporlar, makaleler, konu\u015fmalar ve bildiriler as\u0131l olarak Side ve Perge \u00fczerinedir.<\/p>\n<p>En ba\u015fta k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck \u00e7apl\u0131 ara\u015ft\u0131rmalarla ilerlenilse de, kaz\u0131lar\u0131n maddi imk\u00e2nlar\u0131 artt\u0131k\u00e7a, b\u00fcy\u00fck \u00e7apl\u0131 an\u0131tsal eserlerin \u00e7\u0131kar\u0131lmas\u0131na ve restorasyonlar\u0131na giri\u015filir. Side\u2019de tiyatro, b\u00fcy\u00fck \u015fehir kap\u0131s\u0131, ana caddeler, b\u00fcy\u00fck hamam, nymphaion ile mezar an\u0131tlar\u0131; Perge\u2019de ise ana cadde, tiyatro, nymphaion ve baz\u0131 tap\u0131nak kal\u0131nt\u0131lar\u0131 Arif M\u00fcfid zaman\u0131nda \u00e7\u0131kar\u0131lm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r.<\/p>\n<p>Arif M\u00fcfid, Edebiyat Fak\u00fcltesi\u2019ne dekanl\u0131k yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 d\u00f6nemde, Side ve Perge kaz\u0131lar\u0131n\u0131 destekleyecek, b\u00f6lgenin arkeolojik ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar\u0131n\u0131 d\u00fczenleyecek, arkeologlar\u0131n inceleme koleksiyonundan, k\u00fct\u00fcphanesinden, bar\u0131nma imk\u00e2nlar\u0131ndan yararlanabilece\u011fi, b\u00f6ylece arkeolojik ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar\u0131n sonu\u00e7lar\u0131n\u0131n ortaya \u00e7\u0131kmas\u0131na yard\u0131m edecek bir arkeoloji merkezi kurulmas\u0131na \u00f6nc\u00fcl\u00fck eder. 1954\u2019de Antalya Arkeoloji \u0130ncelemeleri \u0130stasyonu, Mansel\u2019in m\u00fcd\u00fcrl\u00fc\u011f\u00fcnde kurulmu\u015ftur.<\/p>\n<p>Arif M\u00fcfid, biraz da yeti\u015ftirili\u015fi gere\u011fi, pratik i\u015flerin \u00f6rg\u00fctlenmesinde becerikli de\u011fildir. \u00d6nceden ke\u015fif i\u00e7in dola\u015farak, hangi alanlarda, nas\u0131l ve hangi y\u00f6nlerde kaz\u0131 yapacaklar\u0131n\u0131n plan\u0131n\u0131, asistanlar\u0131yla birlikte \u00e7\u0131kar\u0131rlar. Jale \u0130nan ve Adnan Pekman ile e\u015fi Sevim Pekman, kaz\u0131 alanlar\u0131n\u0131n sorumluluklar\u0131n\u0131 b\u00f6l\u00fc\u015f\u00fcr, pratik i\u015flerin ba\u015f\u0131na ge\u00e7erler. Ki\u015fili\u011finde bir Osmanl\u0131 beyefendisiyle, nitelikli, geni\u015f k\u00fclt\u00fcrl\u00fc ve ufuklu bir Avrupal\u0131 bilim insan\u0131 i\u00e7 i\u00e7e ya\u015far. K\u0131\u015flar\u0131 Osmanbey\u2019deki konakta, yazlar\u0131 Pa\u015fabah\u00e7e\u2019deki yal\u0131da, e\u015finden ayr\u0131lm\u0131\u015f olan k\u0131z karde\u015fi M\u00fcfide Han\u0131m ve o\u011flu Tevfik ile beraber ya\u015far. Arif M\u00fcfid\u2019e \u00e7ok ileri ya\u015flar\u0131na dek, zenci lalas\u0131 bakar; yanlar\u0131nda \u00e7e\u015fitli i\u015fleri g\u00f6ren bir yard\u0131mc\u0131lar toplulu\u011fu bulunur. Bu nedenle dostlar\u0131 Arif M\u00fcfid\u2019e \u201ckral\u201d diye tak\u0131l\u0131rlar.
