Bu kuram\u0131n \u00f6ng\u00f6rd\u00fc\u011f\u00fc Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131, CERN B\u00fcy\u00fck Hadron \u00c7arp\u0131\u015ft\u0131r\u0131c\u0131s\u0131ndaki ATLAS ve CMS deneylerinde, nispeten yeni ke\u015ffedildi. Akademi a\u00e7\u0131klamas\u0131nda \u00f6d\u00fcle dair yap\u0131lan al\u0131nt\u0131 ise \u015f\u00f6yle: \u201cAtomalt\u0131 par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131n k\u00fctlelerinin kayna\u011f\u0131n\u0131 anlamam\u0131za yard\u0131mc\u0131 olan ve \u00f6ng\u00f6rd\u00fc\u011f\u00fc temel par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n yak\u0131n ge\u00e7mi\u015fte CERN B\u00fcy\u00fck Hadron \u00c7arp\u0131\u015ft\u0131r\u0131c\u0131s\u0131ndaki ATLAS ve CMS deneylerinde bulunmas\u0131yla do\u011frulanan bir mekanizman\u0131n kuramsal ke\u015ffi i\u00e7in&#8230;\u201d Bu c\u00fcmleyi bir kerede kavramak kolay olmayabilir, gelin biraz a\u00e7al\u0131m.<\/p>\n<p>\u00d6d\u00fcl kazanan bu kuram, par\u00e7ac\u0131k fizi\u011findeki Standart Model\u2019in \u00e7ok \u00f6nemli bir k\u0131sm\u0131n\u0131 olu\u015fturmaktad\u0131r. Standart Model ise en k\u0131sa ifadeyle evrenin nas\u0131l olu\u015ftu\u011funu ve nas\u0131l i\u015fledi\u011fini a\u00e7\u0131klar ve deneysel ke\u015fiflerle tutarl\u0131 \u00f6ng\u00f6r\u00fclere sahiptir. Ba\u015fka bir deyi\u015fle her \u015feyi olu\u015fturan tu\u011flalar ve onlar\u0131 bir arada tutan harc\u0131 a\u00e7\u0131klamak Standart Model\u2019in i\u015fidir. G\u00f6zlemle uyumlu bir\u00e7ok \u00f6ng\u00f6r\u00fcs\u00fc bulunmas\u0131na ra\u011fmen Standart Model\u2019in deneysel olarak do\u011frulanmam\u0131\u015f \u00f6nemli bir eksi\u011fi vard\u0131, o da temel par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131n (tu\u011flalar) ve onlar\u0131n etkile\u015fmelerini sa\u011flayan di\u011fer ara par\u00e7ac\u0131klardan (har\u00e7) k\u00fctlesi olanlar\u0131n nas\u0131l k\u00fctleli hale geldiklerini a\u00e7\u0131klayan k\u0131s\u0131md\u0131. \u0130\u015fte bu k\u0131s\u0131m hakk\u0131ndaki kuramsal yap\u0131 1964\u2019de Robert Brout ve Fran\u00e7ois Englert taraf\u0131ndan ve ayr\u0131ca onlardan ba\u011f\u0131ms\u0131z olarak Peter Higgs taraf\u0131ndan yay\u0131mlanan bilimsel makalelerde \u00f6nerildi. BEH (Brout-Englert-Higgs) mekanizmas\u0131 olarak isimlendirilen bu kuramla Standart Model\u2019in \u00e7ok \u00f6nemli bir a\u00e7\u0131\u011f\u0131 kapanmaktayd\u0131, haliyle e\u011fer hayatta olsayd\u0131 Brout (1928-2011) da Nobel \u00d6d\u00fcl\u00fc kazananlardan biri olacakt\u0131 (Nobel Vakf\u0131\u2019n\u0131n kurallar\u0131na g\u00f6re sadece hayatta olanlara \u00f6d\u00fcl veriliyor). BEH mekanizmas\u0131na g\u00f6re her yerde bulunan bir alan var ve par\u00e7ac\u0131klar bu alanla etkile\u015febildikleri oranda k\u00fctle kazan\u0131yorlar. Par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131n d\u00fcnyas\u0131nda bu alan, bizim i\u00e7in hava, bal\u0131klar i\u00e7in su neyse \u00f6yle bir \u015fey; varoldu\u011funu fark etmesek de o olmadan ya\u015fayamay\u0131z. Bir de bu alan\u0131n, ki bundan sonra Higgs alan\u0131 diyece\u011fiz, tabiri caizse do\u011furdu\u011fu, titre\u015fimlerinden olu\u015fan bir par\u00e7ac\u0131k \u00f6ng\u00f6r\u00fcl\u00fcyor: Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131.<\/p>\n<p>\u0130yi de her \u015fey neredeyse 50 y\u0131l \u00f6nce \u00f6nerilmi\u015f olmas\u0131na ra\u011fmen neden Englert ve Higgs Nobel\u2019e \u015fimdi lay\u0131k g\u00f6r\u00fcld\u00fc? \u0130\u015fte hik\u00e2yenin en sevdi\u011fim k\u0131sm\u0131na geldik: \u00c7\u00fcnk\u00fc yar\u0131m as\u0131r \u00f6nce \u00f6ne s\u00fcr\u00fclen bu mekanizman\u0131n \u00f6ng\u00f6rd\u00fc\u011f\u00fc Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131 deneysel olarak nispeten yeni ke\u015ffedildi ve bu deneysel ke\u015fif BEH mekanizmas\u0131n\u0131 do\u011frulad\u0131. E\u011fer Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131 daha \u00f6nce ke\u015ffedilmi\u015f olsayd\u0131 alabilirdi. Kuramsal olarak Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131n k\u00fctlesi \u00f6ng\u00f6r\u00fclemedi\u011finden, deneysel par\u00e7ac\u0131k fizik\u00e7iler ne k\u00fctlede bir par\u00e7ac\u0131k arad\u0131klar\u0131n\u0131 bilmeden, haz\u0131rlad\u0131klar\u0131 par\u00e7ac\u0131k h\u0131zland\u0131r\u0131c\u0131lar\u0131nda ula\u015fabildikleri enerjilerin izin verdi\u011fi k\u00fctlelerde Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 arad\u0131lar ve senelerce bulamad\u0131lar. Bu uluslararas\u0131 laboratuvar\u0131n en temel amac\u0131, evreni anlay\u0131\u015f\u0131m\u0131z\u0131 ilerletebilmek i\u00e7in ihtiya\u00e7 duyulan ileri teknoloji \u00fcr\u00fcn\u00fc par\u00e7ac\u0131k h\u0131zland\u0131r\u0131c\u0131lar\u0131n\u0131n ve par\u00e7ac\u0131k alg\u0131\u00e7lar\u0131n\u0131n kurulmas\u0131na ve \u00e7al\u0131\u015ft\u0131r\u0131lmas\u0131na olanak sa\u011flamak. CERN B\u00fcy\u00fck Hadron \u00c7arp\u0131\u015ft\u0131r\u0131c\u0131s\u0131 (BH\u00c7) ise yerin ~100 m alt\u0131nda yer alan, \u00e7evresi ~27 km olan dairesel bir t\u00fcnel boyunca par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131n h\u0131zland\u0131r\u0131lmas\u0131na imk\u00e2n veren muazzam bir tesis. BH\u00c7 \u00fczerinde kurulmu\u015f \u00e7ok ama\u00e7l\u0131 iki b\u00fcy\u00fck alg\u0131\u00e7 sistemi var: ATLAS ve CMS. Bu devasa alg\u0131\u00e7 sistemleri BH\u00c7\u2019de \u00e7arp\u0131\u015ft\u0131r\u0131lan protonlar\u0131n sebep olduklar\u0131 yeni s\u00fcre\u00e7leri ve son durum par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131n\u0131 alg\u0131lamak \u00fczere \u00e7arp\u0131\u015fma noktalar\u0131n\u0131n etraf\u0131nda kurulu. BH\u00c7\u2019de 2010\u2019dan beri gittik\u00e7e artan enerji ve yo\u011funluklarda \u00e7arp\u0131\u015ft\u0131r\u0131lan proton demetleri sayesinde ATLAS ve CMS deneylerinde toplanan veri miktar\u0131 yeni ve a\u011f\u0131r bir par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n ke\u015ffini m\u00fcmk\u00fcn k\u0131ld\u0131. \u00d6l\u00e7\u00fclebilen \u00f6zellikleri Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131yla tutarl\u0131 bu yeni par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n ke\u015ffi 4 Temmuz 2012\u2019de CERN\u2019de duyuruldu. Ard\u0131ndan devam eden analizler ke\u015ffedilen bu par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131 oldu\u011funu kesinle\u015ftirdi. Yani belli bir miktar Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 \u00fcretip saklaman\u0131n imk\u00e2n\u0131 yok. Bu durumda elimizdeki tek ipucu Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131n bozundu\u011fu, hatta kimi kez onlar\u0131n da bozundu\u011fu, son durum par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131 (elektron, foton, vb.). Ba\u015far\u0131l\u0131 bir hafiyelik yapabilmek i\u00e7in bu son durum par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131n\u0131n izlerini ve enerjilerini \u00e7ok hassas olarak \u00f6l\u00e7memiz gerekiyor, bu sebeple kurulan alg\u0131\u00e7 sistemleri de son dere karma\u015f\u0131k ve devasa; \u00f6rne\u011fin ATLAS alg\u0131c\u0131 44 m uzunlu\u011funda, 25 m \u00e7ap\u0131nda silindirik bir geometri i\u00e7erisinde yer alan ve toplam 90 milyon kanaldan okunan \u00e7ok say\u0131da alg\u0131\u00e7 bile\u015feninden olu\u015fmakta. Alg\u0131\u00e7 sisteminde izi s\u00fcr\u00fclen bu son durum par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131n\u0131 tekrar yap\u0131land\u0131rabilirsek (rekonstr\u00fcksyon) onlar\u0131n kayna\u011f\u0131 olan Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131 hakk\u0131nda bilgi sahibi olmam\u0131z m\u00fcmk\u00fcn. Ancak hayat maalesef o kadar kolay de\u011fil, etrafta Higgs\u2019den gelmeyen son durum par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131 da var ve bunlar\u0131 birbirinden ay\u0131rt etmek son derece zor olabiliyor, bu di\u011fer son durum par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131n\u0131n yeniden yap\u0131land\u0131r\u0131lmas\u0131 ise arad\u0131\u011f\u0131m\u0131z sinyale (bu durumda Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131na) fon te\u015fkil eden olaylar yarat\u0131yor. Do\u011fru yeniden yap\u0131land\u0131rma algoritmalar\u0131n\u0131 olu\u015fturup bu algortimalara Higgs\u2019in bozunumundan kaynaklanmayan par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131 eleyebilecek \u00f6zellikler kat\u0131larak karma\u015f\u0131k bilgisayar programlar\u0131 yaz\u0131l\u0131yor. Bu programlar, merkezi CERN\u2019de olmak \u00fczere, d\u00fcnya \u00e7ap\u0131nda y\u00fczlerce bilgisayar merkezinde kurulu, GRID sistemi \u00fczerinde analiz ediliyor. GRID \u00fczerinde sadece veri analizleri de\u011fil ayn\u0131 zamanda benzetim (sim\u00fclasyon) analizleri de yap\u0131l\u0131yor. Benzetimler de son derece \u00f6nemli, \u00e7\u00fcnk\u00fc neyi ke\u015ffetti\u011fimizi ancak kuramsal olarak \u00f6ng\u00f6rd\u00fc\u011f\u00fcm\u00fcz ile uyu\u015ftu\u011fu ya da uyu\u015fmad\u0131\u011f\u0131 oranda anlayabiliyoruz. Hatta Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131 sayesinde a\u00e7\u0131kl\u0131\u011fa kavu\u015fan evrenin g\u00f6r\u00fcnen k\u00fctlesinin dahi sadece ~y\u00fczde 1,5\u2019luk k\u0131sm\u0131, unutmay\u0131n evrenin sadece y\u00fczde 5\u2019ini g\u00f6rebiliyoruz; art\u0131k hesab\u0131 size b\u0131rak\u0131yorum. \u00d6n\u00fcm\u00fczde bir\u00e7ok a\u00e7\u0131k soru var, mesela tek tip Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131 m\u0131 var? Yaz\u0131n\u0131n ba\u015f\u0131nda Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131n ke\u015ffiyle par\u00e7ac\u0131k fizi\u011findeki Standart Model\u2019in \u00e7ok \u00f6nemli bir eksi\u011finin giderildi\u011finden bahsetmi\u015ftim. Ancak Standart Model\u2019in bir\u00e7ok a\u00e7\u0131\u011f\u0131 oldu\u011funu da biliyoruz, \u00f6rne\u011fin elektron t\u00fcr\u00fc par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131n partnerleri olarak nitelendirebilece\u011fimiz n\u00f6trinolar Standart Model\u2019e g\u00f6re k\u00fctlesiz olmal\u0131, ancak bunlar\u0131n k\u00fctleli olduklar\u0131 deneysel olarak kan\u0131tland\u0131. Bu gibi uyu\u015fmazl\u0131klar biz fizik\u00e7ileri Standart Model\u2019in de \u00f6tesinde yeniz fizik aramaya te\u015fvik ediyor. \u0130\u015fte BH\u00c7\u2019de yap\u0131lan deneyler bu yeni fizik aray\u0131\u015f\u0131 i\u00e7in de d\u00fcnyan\u0131n \u015fu anda sahip oldu\u011fu ve \u00f6n\u00fcm\u00fczdeki on y\u0131llar boyunca sahip olaca\u011f\u0131 en \u00f6nemli ara\u00e7lar. Bu deneylerle evrenin s\u0131rlar\u0131n\u0131 aralayabildi\u011fimiz kadar\u0131yla aralayaca\u011f\u0131z ve eminim Higgs\u2019in ke\u015ffi sadece bir ba\u015flang\u0131\u00e7.<\/p>\n<p>T\u00fcm bunlar iyi ho\u015f da g\u00fcnl\u00fck hayatta ne i\u015fe yarayacak Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131n ke\u015ffi? D\u00fcnyan\u0131n bu en b\u00fcy\u00fck ve en ileri par\u00e7ac\u0131k fizi\u011fi ara\u015ft\u0131rma laboratuvar\u0131, \u00fcye \u00fclkelerin maddi katk\u0131lar\u0131yla hizmet veriyor ve sadece \u00fcye \u00fclkelerin kat\u0131labildi\u011fi karar mekanizmalar\u0131na sahip. Peki bu \u00fclkeler neden CERN\u2019e \u00fcye olup bir s\u00fcr\u00fc para veriyorlar? \u00c7\u00fcnk\u00fc g\u00fc\u00e7 birli\u011fi ile tek ba\u015flar\u0131na sahip olamayacaklar\u0131 altyap\u0131ya ortakla\u015fa sahip olabiliyorlar, paralel olarak ulusal yap\u0131lanmalar\u0131n\u0131 da ilerletebiliyorlar.
