Ak\u0131l y\u00fcr\u00fctme y\u00f6ntemi a\u00e7\u0131k oldu\u011fu kadar basittir: \u0130nsan\u0131n bitki ve hayvan t\u00fcrlerinden yeni \u0131rk veya ara t\u00fcrler elde etmek amac\u0131yla geli\u015ftirdi\u011fi ay\u0131klama y\u00f6nteminin bir benzerini, do\u011fa, t\u00fcm canl\u0131 varl\u0131klara uygular: Darwin\u2019in \u201cdo\u011fal se\u00e7ilim\u201d diye adland\u0131rd\u0131\u011f\u0131 bu olay\u0131n nesiller \u00fczerinden k\u00fcm\u00fclatif etkisiyle organik adaptasyonlar ortaya \u00e7\u0131kar ki bunlar da, uzun zaman aral\u0131klar\u0131 sonunda, yeni t\u00fcrlerin olu\u015fmas\u0131na yol a\u00e7abilir. Adaptasyon sa\u011flayamam\u0131\u015f olan pop\u00fclasyonlar\u0131n soyu t\u00fckenebilir.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c7evresel ko\u015fullara en uygun olan varl\u0131klar\u0131n hayatta kalmalar\u0131 ve buna kar\u015f\u0131n daha az uygun olanlar\u0131n ya\u015fam sahnesinden yava\u015f\u00e7a silinmeleri olarak \u00f6zetleyebilece\u011fimiz do\u011fal se\u00e7ilimin etki edebilmesi i\u00e7in, organizmalar\u0131n \u00f6zelliklerinde de\u011fi\u015fimlerin meydana gelmesi gerekir. Darwin, her zamanki g\u00fc\u00e7l\u00fc \u00f6nsezisiyle, fenotipte ortaya \u00e7\u0131kan rasgele de\u011fi\u015fimlerden s\u00f6z eder &#8211; her ne kadar onlar\u0131n k\u00f6k nedenini a\u00e7\u0131klayamam\u0131\u015f olsa da. Darwin\u2019den sonra biyoloji ve genetik biliminin geli\u015fmesiyle, s\u00f6z konusu de\u011fi\u015fimlerin, DNA dizilerinde meydana gelen birtak\u0131m rasgele mutasyonlar\u0131n d\u0131\u015favurumu oldu\u011fu anla\u015f\u0131ld\u0131. Canl\u0131 varl\u0131\u011fa avantaj sa\u011flayabilecek de\u011fi\u015fimler, do\u011fal se\u00e7ilimin etkisiyle, nesilden nesle kal\u0131c\u0131l\u0131k kazan\u0131r &#8211; yani do\u011fa, avantajl\u0131 \u00f6zelliklere sahip olan canl\u0131lar\u0131 se\u00e7mi\u015f olur. Darwin\u2019in g\u00f6r\u00fc\u015f\u00fcne g\u00f6re evrimle\u015fme, \u00e7ok k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck ad\u0131mlarla ilerleyen bir s\u00fcre\u00e7tir.<\/p>\n<p>E\u011fer Charles Darwin g\u00fcn\u00fcm\u00fcz Londra\u2019s\u0131nda y\u00fcr\u00fcy\u00fc\u015fe \u00e7\u0131k\u0131p \u00e7evresini g\u00f6zlemleyebilseydi, kendi zaman\u0131ndan \u00e7ok farkl\u0131 bir d\u00fcnya ile kar\u015f\u0131 kar\u015f\u0131ya kal\u0131rd\u0131 \u015f\u00fcphesiz. Acaba bu g\u00f6zlemler \u0131\u015f\u0131\u011f\u0131nda, Darwin, evrim kuram\u0131n\u0131 tekrar g\u00f6zden ge\u00e7irme ihtiyac\u0131n\u0131 hisseder miydi?<\/p>\n<p>Bu konuyu<em> Kendimizi Evrimle\u015ftirmek <\/em>(Evolving Ourselves) isimli yeni kitaplar\u0131nda ele alan gelecekbilimci Juan Enriquez ve Harvard Medical School profes\u00f6r\u00fc Steve Gullans, insano\u011flunun bug\u00fcn\u00fcn \u015fartlar\u0131nda nas\u0131l evrimle\u015fti\u011fi hakk\u0131nda s\u0131k\u00e7a merak edilen sorulara yan\u0131t ar\u0131yorlar (J. Enriquez, S. Gullans, <em>Evolving Ourselves<\/em>, Oneworld Publications, 2015). Darwin\u2019in evrim kuram\u0131 h\u00e2l\u00e2 ge\u00e7erli mi? Bu kuram, son iki y\u00fczy\u0131l\u0131n bilimsel kazan\u0131mlar\u0131, teknolojik ilerlemeleri ve toplumsal de\u011fi\u015fimleri \u0131\u015f\u0131\u011f\u0131 alt\u0131nda nas\u0131l g\u00fcncellenmeli? Son iki y\u00fczy\u0131lda insanlarda ne gibi bir evrimle\u015fme meydana geldi, insano\u011flu h\u00e2l\u00e2 evrimle\u015fiyor ise etki eden unsurlar ve mekanizmalar nelerdir, gelecekte nas\u0131l evrimle\u015fece\u011fiz? Ara s\u0131ra k\u0131\u015fk\u0131rt\u0131c\u0131, s\u0131k\u00e7a d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnmeye zorlayan ve tart\u0131\u015fmal\u0131 olsa da, hep merak uyand\u0131r\u0131c\u0131 fikirleri ile kar\u015f\u0131m\u0131za \u00e7\u0131k\u0131yorlar.<\/p>\n<p>Yazarlar, Darwin ile Wallace\u2019\u0131n hatal\u0131 oldu\u011funu ileri s\u00fcrm\u00fcyorlar elbette. Ancak bu iki do\u011fa bilimcinin 19. y\u00fczy\u0131l\u0131n ortalar\u0131nda \u00f6ne s\u00fcrd\u00fc\u011f\u00fc teorinin g\u00fcn\u00fcm\u00fcz d\u00fcnyas\u0131nda eksik kald\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131, dolay\u0131s\u0131yla teorinin en yeni bilimsel ve teknolojik ilerlemeleri yans\u0131tacak \u015fekilde geni\u015fletilmesini \u00f6neriyorlar. \u00d6zetle, Enriquez ve Gullans\u2019a g\u00f6re son 150-200 y\u0131l i\u00e7erisinde, biyolojik evrimle\u015fme \u00fczerine etki eden \u015fu iki temel unsur ortaya \u00e7\u0131kt\u0131:<\/p>\n<p>1) Do\u011fad\u0131\u015f\u0131 se\u00e7ilim (unnatural selection) ve<\/p>\n<p>2) Rasgele olmayan de\u011fi\u015finim (non-random mutation).<\/p>\n<p>Daha yak\u0131ndan bakal\u0131m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do\u011fad\u0131\u015f\u0131 se\u00e7ilim<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Son iki y\u00fczy\u0131ll\u0131k s\u00fcre zarf\u0131nda, yer y\u00fczeyi, insano\u011flunun h\u0131zla geli\u015ftirip hep daha etkin bi\u00e7imde uygulad\u0131\u011f\u0131 say\u0131s\u0131z teknolojiler sayesinde \u015fekillendi. Engin alanlar tar\u0131ma a\u00e7\u0131ld\u0131, sulama ve g\u00fcbreleme teknikleri marifetiyle tar\u0131msal \u00fcretim hacmi kat kat artt\u0131, \u00e7\u00f6ll\u00fck alanlar ekine elveri\u015fli m\u00fcmbit topraklara d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015ft\u00fcr\u00fcld\u00fc, barajlar in\u015fa edildi, nehirlerin seyri de\u011fi\u015ftirildi. T\u00fcm bunlara paralel ve insano\u011flunun inat\u00e7\u0131 sorumsuzlu\u011fu ve savruklu\u011funun sonucu olarak, verimli topraklar \u00e7orakl\u0131\u011fa b\u00fcr\u00fcnd\u00fc, g\u00f6ller ve denizler kurakl\u0131\u011fa teslim edildi, \u00e7evre kirletilerek tahrip edildi, tarihte e\u015fi benzeri g\u00f6r\u00fclmemi\u015f bir kentle\u015fme hareketi sonucu insan pop\u00fclasyonlar\u0131 dar alanlarda yo\u011funla\u015ft\u0131, ya\u015fam bi\u00e7im ve ko\u015fullar\u0131 derinden etkilendi, s\u00fcrekli art\u0131\u015f g\u00f6steren bir insan n\u00fcfusunu besleyebilmek ad\u0131na tar\u0131m ve hayvanc\u0131l\u0131k sekt\u00f6r\u00fcnde do\u011fada kar\u015f\u0131l\u0131\u011f\u0131 olmayan y\u00f6ntemler uygulanmaya ba\u015fland\u0131. \u0130\u015fte, do\u011fal d\u00fcnyaya ihtiya\u00e7 ve isteklerini dikte eden insan, yeni bir ekosistem yaratt\u0131, oyunun kurallar\u0131n\u0131 alt \u00fcst ederek se\u00e7ilim s\u00fcre\u00e7lerini de etkilemeye ba\u015flad\u0131. Evrimsel d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015f\u00fcm sadece do\u011fa taraf\u0131ndan belirlenir olmaktan \u00e7\u0131kt\u0131, bu konuda art\u0131k ikinci bir akt\u00f6r -insan- s\u00f6z sahibi oldu. CRISPR gibi yeni genetik m\u00fchendisli\u011fi teknolojileri (<em>\u201ckrisp\u0131r\u201d olarak okunur <\/em><em>&#8211; <\/em><em>a\u00e7\u0131l\u0131m\u0131: <\/em><em>Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats<\/em>), bu t\u00fcr mutasyonlar\u0131 art\u0131k olduk\u00e7a kolayca ve d\u00fc\u015f\u00fck maliyette ger\u00e7ekle\u015ftirmenin yolunu a\u00e7t\u0131. Bakteri, vir\u00fcs, bitki, hayvan ve insan\u0131n genetik kodunun zaten bir s\u00fcredir de\u011fi\u015ftirilmekte oldu\u011fu ve bu t\u00fcr metotlara gelecekte \u00e7ok daha s\u0131k\u00e7a ba\u015fvurulaca\u011f\u0131 \u00e7ok a\u00e7\u0131k.<\/p>\n<p>Enriquez ve Gullans\u2019a kulak verirsek: \u201cBir yanda, ola\u011fan\u00fcst\u00fc bir \u00e7e\u015fitlili\u011fe, s\u00fcrekli soy t\u00fckenmesine ve t\u00fcrle\u015fmeye yol a\u00e7an, do\u011fan\u0131n t\u00fcm a\u011f\u0131rl\u0131\u011f\u0131 ile evrimle\u015fmenin geleneksel g\u00fc\u00e7leri olan do\u011fal se\u00e7ilim ve rasgele de\u011fi\u015finim yer almaktad\u0131r. Di\u011fer yanda, tek bir t\u00fcr\u00fcn, <em>H. sapiens<\/em>\u2019in istekleri yatmaktad\u0131r. Darwin, bitki ve hayvanlar\u0131n insanlar taraf\u0131ndan evcille\u015ftirilip yeniden tasarland\u0131klar\u0131nda ne gibi sonu\u00e7lar\u0131n ortaya \u00e7\u0131kabilece\u011fi hakk\u0131nda kapsaml\u0131ca yazd\u0131 yazmas\u0131na; ancak, bu gidi\u015fat devam etti\u011fi takdirde, insano\u011flunun, kendi dahil, t\u00fcm gezegeni etkisi alt\u0131na alaca\u011f\u0131na, ve b\u00f6ylece do\u011fal se\u00e7ilim ve rasgele de\u011fi\u015finimin g\u00fcc\u00fcne ula\u015f\u0131p bu g\u00fc\u00e7leri de a\u015fabilece\u011fine dair o mant\u0131k s\u0131\u00e7ramas\u0131n\u0131 yapmad\u0131.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u0130nsano\u011flunun son iki y\u00fczy\u0131lda evrimle\u015fti\u011fine dair pek \u00e7ok g\u00f6sterge mevcut. Bunlar\u0131n \u00f6rneklerine ge\u00e7meden \u00f6nce, yazarlar\u0131n, insan\u0131n evrimle\u015fmesini belirleyen genetik altyap\u0131 hakk\u0131ndaki g\u00f6r\u00fc\u015flerine yer verelim.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Canl\u0131 varl\u0131klar\u0131n d\u00f6rt genomu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Modern biyoloji bilimine g\u00f6re, bir h\u00fccre ya da organizmay\u0131 biyolojik anlamda belirleyen unsur, onun sahip oldu\u011fu genetik materyalin t\u00fcm\u00fcd\u00fcr, yani genomudur. Genom, bir organizmay\u0131 olu\u015fturmak ve geli\u015fkin hale gelmesini sa\u011flamak i\u00e7in gerekli t\u00fcm enformasyonu i\u00e7erir. \u0130nsan genomu, yakla\u015f\u0131k 3 milyar DNA baz \u00e7iftinden olu\u015fur. Ancak insan\u0131n (ve ba\u015fka pek \u00e7ok organizman\u0131n) evrimle\u015fmesini anlamak i\u00e7in, art\u0131k sadece salt DNA genomuna odaklan\u0131lmamas\u0131, bu genomun yan\u0131 s\u0131ra organizmaya kimli\u011fini kazand\u0131ran \u00fc\u00e7 ayr\u0131 \u201cgenomun\u201d da g\u00f6z \u00f6n\u00fcne al\u0131nmas\u0131 gerekti\u011fi d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcl\u00fcyor.<\/p>\n<p>Yeni ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar, organik de\u011fi\u015fimin sadece DNA\u2019daki mutasyonlardan de\u011fil, bunun yan\u0131 s\u0131ra gen ifadelerinin kontrol\u00fc d\u00fczeyinde ger\u00e7ekle\u015fen de\u011fi\u015fimlerden de kaynaklanabilece\u011fini ortaya koydu. Bu konuyu et\u00fct eden \u201cepigenetik\u201d bilim dal\u0131nda y\u00fcr\u00fct\u00fclen ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar, DNA\u2019n\u0131n belli b\u00f6lgelerinde konumlanan baz\u0131 molek\u00fcl k\u00fcmelerinin adeta bir a\u00e7\/kapa anahtar\u0131 rol\u00fc oynad\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131, bu yolla genler deaktive\/aktive edilerek gen ifadesinin suskun ya da aktif hale gelebildi\u011fini, b\u00f6ylece \u00f6nemi ya\u015famsal nitelikte olan protein kodlama s\u00fcre\u00e7lerinin bu t\u00fcr mekanizmalar taraf\u0131ndan etkilenebilece\u011fini g\u00f6sterdi. Basit bir form\u00fclle, DNA\u2019n\u0131n kimyasal a\u00e7\/kapa anahtarlar\u0131n\u0131n t\u00fcm\u00fcne \u201cepigenom\u201d diyebiliriz.
