Ba\u015fl\u0131k, spot ve araba\u015fl\u0131klar taraf\u0131m\u0131zdan olu\u015fturulmu\u015ftur.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Dr. Inge Lehmann 13 May\u0131s 1888\u2019de Kopenhag\u2019\u0131n g\u00f6ller b\u00f6lgesi olarak bilinen Osterbro Mahallesinde do\u011fmu\u015f ve hayat\u0131n\u0131n 50 y\u0131ldan fazlas\u0131n\u0131 yine Kopenhag\u2019da Kastelvej\u2019de ge\u00e7irmi\u015fti. Lehmann ailesi, k\u00f6kleri \u00c7ekoslovakya\u2019ya dayanan Bohemya\u2019dan gelmi\u015flerdi ve ailede \u00e7ok say\u0131da avukat, politikac\u0131, m\u00fchendis vard\u0131. Lehmann\u2019\u0131n baba taraf\u0131ndan dedesi 1854\u2019de a\u00e7\u0131lan Danimarka\u2019n\u0131n ilk telgraf a\u011f\u0131n\u0131 tasarlam\u0131\u015ft\u0131. Yine b\u00fcy\u00fck b\u00fcy\u00fck dedesi Ulusal Banka\u2019n\u0131n m\u00fcd\u00fcr\u00fcyd\u00fc. Annesinin babas\u0131 Hanks Jakob Torsleff, her ku\u015fakta rahip bulunan \u00fcnl\u00fc bir Danimarkal\u0131 aileye mensuptu. Anne Groes isimli torun, bir s\u00fcre ticaret bakanl\u0131\u011f\u0131 yapm\u0131\u015ft\u0131. Inge\u2019nin \u00e7ocuklu\u011fu 1890\u2019larda mutlu ve bar\u0131\u015f\u00e7\u0131l bir ortamda ge\u00e7mi\u015fti. Babas\u0131 Alfred Lehmann, Kopenhag \u00dcniversitesi\u2019nde ilk deneysel psikoloji \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131na \u00f6nc\u00fcl\u00fck eden bir psikoloji profes\u00f6r\u00fcyd\u00fc. Ailesini sadece yemek saatlerinde ya da pazar g\u00fcnleri birlikte \u00e7\u0131kt\u0131klar\u0131 y\u00fcr\u00fcy\u00fc\u015flerde g\u00f6rebilecek kadar me\u015fguld\u00fc. Inge\u2019nin bir de Harriet ad\u0131nda k\u0131z karde\u015fi vard\u0131.<\/p>\n<p>Inge ailesi taraf\u0131ndan ufku epeyce geni\u015f, k\u0131z ve erkeklerin bir arada okudu\u011fu ve Hannah Adler taraf\u0131ndan y\u00f6netilen bir okula g\u00f6nderildi. Adler, Nobel \u00f6d\u00fcll\u00fc kuramsal fizik\u00e7i ve yine Danimarkal\u0131 Niels Bohr\u2019un da teyzesiydi. Inge kad\u0131nlara hem \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmada hem de hayatta ayn\u0131 \u015fekilde davran\u0131labilece\u011fini burada fark etti. Ger\u00e7i Brush\u2019a verdi\u011fi s\u00f6yle\u015fisinde, hayat\u0131n zaman i\u00e7erisinde kendisini bu konuda hayal k\u0131r\u0131kl\u0131klar\u0131 ya\u015fatt\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 ve \u00e7ok zaman bu e\u015fitli\u011fin sa\u011flanamad\u0131\u011f\u0131na tan\u0131kl\u0131k etti\u011fini s\u00f6yleyecekti. Okulda matematik \u00f6\u011fretmeni ayr\u0131cal\u0131kl\u0131 zek\u00e2s\u0131n\u0131 fark etmi\u015f olacak ki, ona \u00e7\u00f6zmesi i\u00e7in farkl\u0131 ve \u00f6zel problemler veriyordu. Ancak ailesi onu fiziksel a\u00e7\u0131dan zay\u0131f g\u00f6rd\u00fc\u011f\u00fcnden, bu fazladan \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmay\u0131 pek onaylam\u0131yordu. B\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fcn\u00fcn diplomas\u0131n\u0131 alabilmek i\u00e7in (Candidata magisterii) ayn\u0131 zamanda fizik, kimya ve astronomi dersleri almas\u0131 da gerekiyordu. 1910\u2019da s\u0131navlar\u0131n\u0131n bir k\u0131sm\u0131n\u0131 ge\u00e7ti\u011finde, Cambridge\u2019de Newnham Koleji\u2019ne bir y\u0131ll\u0131\u011f\u0131na kabul edilmi\u015fti bile. Kad\u0131n-erkek aras\u0131ndaki farkl\u0131l\u0131\u011f\u0131n belirgin bir bi\u00e7imde hat\u0131rlat\u0131lmas\u0131 ve \u201cgen\u00e7 bir han\u0131m\u201d olarak kendisine getirilen \u00e7e\u015fitli davran\u0131\u015f k\u0131s\u0131tlamalar\u0131na ra\u011fmen, burada olmaktan \u00e7ok mutluydu. Matematik B\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fc bitirme s\u0131navlar\u0131na girmek i\u00e7in kal\u0131\u015f\u0131 uzam\u0131\u015ft\u0131, ancak yo\u011fun \u00e7al\u0131\u015fma temposu sonucu ya\u015fad\u0131\u011f\u0131 rahats\u0131zl\u0131k sebebiyle 1911 Aral\u0131k ay\u0131nda evine d\u00f6nd\u00fc. \u0130yile\u015fme s\u00fcrecinin yava\u015f olmas\u0131 sebebi ile uzun s\u00fcre \u00fcniversite \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131yla ilgilenmeyecekti.<\/p>\n<p>Bir s\u00fcre istatistik uzman\u0131 olarak \u00e7al\u0131\u015ft\u0131. Bu \u00e7al\u0131\u015fma esnas\u0131nda hesaplama alan\u0131nda ciddi bir e\u011fitim edinmi\u015f oldu. 1918\u2019de Kopenhag \u00dcniversitesi\u2019ne d\u00f6n\u00fcp 1920\u2019de mezun oldu. \u015eubat 1923\u2019de yine istatistik hesaplamalar\u0131yla ilgili b\u00f6l\u00fcmde \u00fc\u00e7 y\u0131l kadar asistan olarak \u00e7al\u0131\u015ft\u0131 ve bu s\u00fcrede kendisindeki \u201cg\u00f6zlem teorisi\u201d merak\u0131n\u0131n fark\u0131na vard\u0131.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sismolojiye giri\u015f<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1925\u2019de \u201cGradmaalingen\u201d ismindeki, Kopenhag\u00f6 Ivigtut ve Scoresbysund yak\u0131nlar\u0131ndaki birka\u00e7 yerde kurulacak sismografi istasyonlar\u0131 projesinde \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmak \u00fczere, projenin y\u00f6neticisi Prof. N. E. Norlund\u2019un yan\u0131na asistan olarak atand\u0131. Bu sayede, tesad\u00fcfen, sismoloji alan\u0131nda \u201casismik\u201d olarak bilinen ve Danimarka\u2019da nadir bulunan bir meslek edinmi\u015f oldu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBen ve \u00fc\u00e7 gen\u00e7 erkek arkada\u015f\u0131m, birlikte epeyce yabanc\u0131 oldu\u011fumuz \u2018sismik \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u2019 i\u00e7ine girmi\u015ftik. Ki hi\u00e7birimiz daha \u00f6nce sismograf g\u00f6rmemi\u015ftik. Wiecher, Galitzin &#8211; Wilip ve Milne &#8211; Shaw sismograflar\u0131n\u0131 Kopenhag\u2019a kurarken bir yandan da Gr\u00f6nland donan\u0131mlar\u0131n\u0131 haz\u0131rl\u0131yorduk. Bu arada ben yard\u0131ms\u0131z bir \u015fekilde sismoloji \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131yordum, fakat 1927 yaz\u0131nda \u00fc\u00e7 ayl\u0131\u011f\u0131na yurtd\u0131\u015f\u0131na gitme f\u0131rsat\u0131 buldum. Darmstadt\u2019ta bir ay kadar bana inan\u0131lmaz yard\u0131m\u0131 olan Prof. Beno Gutenberg ile \u00e7al\u0131\u015ft\u0131m. Daha sonra Hamburg\u2019da Profes\u00f6r E. Tam, Strasburg\u2019da Prof. E. Rothe bana \u00e7ok yard\u0131mc\u0131 oldular. Her gitti\u011fim yerde \u00e7ok nazik kar\u015f\u0131land\u0131m ve pek \u00e7ok bilgi ald\u0131m.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>S\u00f6z\u00fc edilen biliminsanlar\u0131 o d\u00f6nemde Avrupa\u2019da sismoloji \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131na \u00f6nderlik eden ki\u015filerdi. \u00d6zellikle Gutenberg, daha 1914\u2019lerde yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 sismik kay\u0131tlarla d\u00fcnyan\u0131n \u201cmerkez \u00e7ekirde\u011finin\u201d ortalama 2900 km mesafede oldu\u011funu belirlemi\u015fti (G\u00fcn\u00fcm\u00fczdeki en iyi tahmin, 3 km yan\u0131lma pay\u0131 ile 2885 km).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14663\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14663\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14663\" src=\"https:\/\/bilimvegelecek.com.tr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Inge-Lehmann-foto-2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14663\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Inge Lehman, 1932\u2019de.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Bilim yapmakta \u00f6zg\u00fcrd\u00fc, ama bu ondan beklenmiyordu\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1928 yaz\u0131nda Lehmann, Kopenhag \u00dcniversitesi Jeodezi B\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fc s\u0131navlar\u0131n\u0131 ge\u00e7erek Danimarka\u2019da tan\u0131mlanm\u0131\u015f olan \u201cmagister scientiarum\u201d derecesini elde etti. Bunun arkas\u0131ndan 1953\u2019deki emeklili\u011fine kadar \u00e7al\u0131\u015faca\u011f\u0131, o s\u0131ralarda yeni yap\u0131lanm\u0131\u015f olan Danimarka Kraliyet Jeodezi Enstit\u00fcs\u00fc\u2019n\u00fcn \u015fefinden davet alm\u0131\u015ft\u0131. Sorumluluklar\u0131 aras\u0131nda Kopenhag, Ivigtut ve Scoresbysund\u2019daki sismografik verilerin en g\u00fcvenilir \u015fekilde elde edilmesi ve uluslararas\u0131 birimlere ula\u015ft\u0131r\u0131lmas\u0131 vard\u0131 ve adeta bir bek\u00e7i gibi bu verileri takip edip bilgi vermesi gerekiyordu. \u00d6zellikle Scoresbysund \u0130stasyonu y\u0131llard\u0131r birebir izlenemiyor; sadece y\u0131lda bir kere deniz yoluyla al\u0131nan tek bir veriyle yetinilebiliyordu.<\/p>\n<p>Kopenhag\u2019daki g\u00f6zlem merkezinde Lehmann, cihazlar\u0131 d\u00fczg\u00fcnce ayarlamaktan tutun tesisin bak\u0131m ve onar\u0131m\u0131na kadar neredeyse her \u015feyden sorumluydu. Bu ona, sismik dalga modellerini titizlikle kaydetme ve o d\u00f6nem i\u00e7in erken say\u0131labilecek bir sismografik bilgi a\u011f\u0131 olu\u015fturma \u00f6nceli\u011fi kazand\u0131rm\u0131\u015ft\u0131. \u00c7o\u011funlukla asistans\u0131z, hatta b\u00fcro eleman\u0131 olmadan tek ba\u015f\u0131na \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131yordu. Bilim yapmakta \u00f6zg\u00fcrd\u00fc, ancak bu resmi g\u00f6revleri aras\u0131nda de\u011fildi ve cesaretlendirilmiyordu.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Verileri yorumlama g\u00fcc\u00fc<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lehmann ara\u015ft\u0131rmas\u0131na ba\u015flad\u0131\u011f\u0131nda, depremlerin merkez \u00fcslerini belirleme \u00f6l\u00e7\u00fcmlerinin pek de g\u00fcvenilir olmad\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 fark etti. Sismik dalgalar\u0131n var\u0131\u015f zamanlar\u0131n\u0131n en az hatayla rapor edilebilmesi i\u00e7in farkl\u0131 sismograflar aras\u0131ndaki veri farkl\u0131l\u0131klar\u0131n\u0131 g\u00f6zle takip ederek ili\u015fkilendirmeye \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131yordu. B\u00f6ylelikle evreler, a\u00e7\u0131k ve g\u00fc\u00e7l\u00fc bir \u015fekilde birbirine uygun olarak yorumlanabiliyor ve kaydediliyordu. Al\u00e7akg\u00f6n\u00fcll\u00fc karakterine uygun \u015fekilde yazd\u0131\u011f\u0131 biyografik notlar\u0131nda, merkeze yak\u0131n b\u00f6lge uzakl\u0131\u011f\u0131ndan gelen baz\u0131 evrelerin yorumlanabilmesi i\u00e7in belirgin bir \u201ci\u00e7 \u00e7ekirdek\u201d olmas\u0131 gerekti\u011fini yazar. Bu soyutlama elbette onun en b\u00fcy\u00fck ba\u015far\u0131s\u0131d\u0131r, ancak sadece bu de\u011fildir elbette. \u0130lk \u00e7al\u0131\u015fma sonu\u00e7lar\u0131 1926\u2019da yay\u0131mlanm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Her bir istasyondan gelen bilgilerin jeolojik sonu\u00e7lara d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015fmeden \u00f6nce kesinliklerinin \u00f6l\u00e7\u00fclebilmesi \u00e7ok \u00f6nemliydi. Bu da Lehmann\u2019a Avrupa sismoloji istasyonlar\u0131ndan gelen bilgilerin g\u00fcvenilirli\u011fini erken saptayabilme gereklili\u011fini g\u00f6stermi\u015f olmal\u0131 ki; dikkatini en gerekli, faydal\u0131 ve kesin olan verilerle s\u0131n\u0131rlama karar\u0131 ald\u0131. Pek \u00e7ok \u00e7a\u011fda\u015f\u0131 gibi o da depremlerin az oldu\u011fu bir b\u00f6lge olan Kuzey Avrupa verilerini inceliyordu. Bu arada alan\u0131ndaki \u00fcn\u00fc art\u0131yordu ve \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131 Emil Wiechert Madalyas\u0131\u2019yla \u00f6d\u00fcllendirildi (Wiecherde, Yerk\u00fcre\u2019nin katmanlar\u0131na ili\u015fkin ilk do\u011frulanabilir modeli ortaya koyan Alman jeofizik\u00e7i). Otobiyografisinde belirtti\u011fi \u00fczere, bundan sonra \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n\u0131 daha \u201c\u00f6zg\u00fcr\u201d bir rutin i\u00e7erisinde s\u00fcrd\u00fcrebilmeyi istiyordu. Lehmann\u2019\u0131n emeklilikte ne yapaca\u011f\u0131n\u0131 planlad\u0131\u011f\u0131 s\u00fcre\u00e7te, 2. Bunlardan biri \u00fc\u00e7 k\u0131sa periyotlu, di\u011feri \u00fc\u00e7 uzun periyotlu sismografik kay\u0131t yap\u0131yordu. Cihazlara gelen t\u00fcm sismik dalgalar cihazlar aras\u0131ndaki frekans tepki e\u011frileriyle dikkatli bir \u015fekilde \u00f6l\u00e7\u00fcl\u00fcyordu ve zaman duyarl\u0131l\u0131\u011f\u0131 o zamanlar standart haline gelmi\u015f kristal saatlerle yap\u0131l\u0131yordu.<\/p>\n<p>1960 y\u0131l\u0131 boyunca, herhangi bir yay\u0131n zorunlulu\u011fu olmaks\u0131z\u0131n WWSSN\u2019den gelen kay\u0131tlar Washington\u2019daki US Jeodezi Veri Merkezinde biriktirildi. Buna ra\u011fmen Avrupa kay\u0131tlar\u0131nda, k\u0131sa mesafeli merkez \u00fcss\u00fcne sahip dalgalarda, iki S faz\u0131 oldu\u011funu belirlemekte ba\u015far\u0131l\u0131 olmu\u015ftu. Ki\u015fi ba\u015far\u0131l\u0131 olsa da yaln\u0131zl\u0131\u011f\u0131n ka\u00e7\u0131n\u0131lmazl\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 bu \u00f6l\u00fcmden sonra Lady Jeffreys\u2019e yazd\u0131\u011f\u0131 mektupta dile getirmi\u015fti.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaurice Ewing\u2019in \u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fc beni fazlas\u0131yla sarst\u0131. Programdan gelen maddi destekle \u00fcst katmandaki yap\u0131lar hakk\u0131ndaki ara\u015ft\u0131rmas\u0131n\u0131 n\u00fckleer patlamalarda olu\u015fan sismik dalgalar\u0131 kullanarak geli\u015ftirmeyi planl\u0131yordu. Bu \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar bir\u00e7ok yans\u0131yan sismik faz\u0131n oldu\u011fu sismogramlar\u0131n yorumunu da bar\u0131nd\u0131r\u0131yordu.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0130\u00e7 \u00e7ekirdek modeli<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u0130\u00e7 \u00e7ekirde\u011fin Inge Lehmann taraf\u0131ndan 1936\u2019da bulunmas\u0131n\u0131n 50. y\u0131l\u0131 an\u0131s\u0131na sempozyum ve \u00f6zel yay\u0131nlar yap\u0131lm\u0131\u015ft\u0131. Lehmann\u2019\u0131n i\u00e7 \u00e7ekirdek \u00f6nerisi, g\u00f6zlemlenen \u00e7ekirdekten gelen sismik dalgalar\u0131n, tek bir b\u00fct\u00fcn \u00e7ekirdek modeli ile yorumlamas\u0131nda ortaya \u00e7\u0131kan problemlerin \u00fcstesinden gelmek i\u00e7indi. Bu beklenmeyen \u0131\u015f\u0131nlar\u0131 a\u00e7\u0131klamak i\u00e7in ortada birka\u00e7 farkl\u0131 fikir vard\u0131 ve en \u00e7ok d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcleni 142 derecede ya\u015fan\u0131lan sismik dalgalardaki kostik hareketti (Sonras\u0131nda, Harold Jeffreys bu \u0131\u015f\u0131nlar\u0131n kostik hareket ile teorik olarak a\u00e7\u0131klanamayaca\u011f\u0131n\u0131 ispatlad\u0131).<\/p>\n<p>Daha \u00f6nce de belirtildi\u011fi gibi, Lehmann bu dalgalar\u0131 \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmak i\u00e7in m\u00fckemmel bir b\u00f6lgedeydi. Danimarka\u2019da \u00e7al\u0131\u015ft\u0131\u011f\u0131 sismograf veri a\u011f\u0131 ve Avrupa istasyonundan ald\u0131\u011f\u0131 di\u011fer veriler, G\u00fcney Pasifik\u2019teki sismograflara k\u0131yasla, sismografik dalgalar\u0131n merkez \u00fcslerinden \u00e7ok daha geni\u015f a\u00e7\u0131larda kaydediliyordu.<\/p>\n<p>Lehmann\u2019\u0131n arg\u00fcmanlar\u0131, gerekli olmayan bilgileri eleyebilme kabiliyeti ile beraber destekleniyordu. Kendisi, \u015eekil 1\u2019deki gibi iki \u00e7ekirdekli bir D\u00fcnya modeli olu\u015fturdu ve sismik P dalgalar\u0131n\u0131n h\u0131zlar\u0131n\u0131, mantoda ve \u00e7ekirdekte ayr\u0131 ayr\u0131 sabit varsayd\u0131. Bu iki farkl\u0131 b\u00f6lge i\u00e7in varsayd\u0131\u011f\u0131 sabit h\u0131zlar mant\u0131kl\u0131 ortalamalard\u0131. Bu say\u0131larla yol alma s\u00fcresi e\u011fimi g\u00f6zlemlenen verilerle uyu\u015fuyordu (5 numaral\u0131 \u0131\u015f\u0131n gibi \u0131\u015f\u0131nlardan bahsediyoruz).<\/p>\n<p>Bunlar\u0131n sonucunda Lehmann varolan \u00fc\u00e7 k\u0131s\u0131ml\u0131 bir D\u00fcnya modelini ispatlam\u0131\u015f oldu. Ancak kendisinin yapmad\u0131\u011f\u0131 \u015fey ise tersini ispatlamakt\u0131. Yani ispatlad\u0131\u011f\u0131 teoremi ve yol alma s\u00fcresi verilerini kullanarak, istatistiksel olarak i\u00e7 \u00e7ekirdek parametrelerini hesaplama i\u015flemini yapmam\u0131\u015ft\u0131. Onun \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131, hayranl\u0131k uyand\u0131r\u0131c\u0131 bir kad\u0131n\u0131n bir\u00e7ok \u00f6zelli\u011finin sonucudur. Kendini i\u015fine adam\u0131\u015f ve \u00e7ok dikkatli bir sismoloji g\u00f6zlemcisiydi. Olduk\u00e7a ele\u015ftirel ve \u00f6zg\u00fcr bir d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnce yap\u0131s\u0131 vard\u0131.
