Buna benzer hareket \u00f6zellikleri do\u011fada fazlas\u0131yla bulunabiliyor. Lidersiz \u015fekilde uzun mesafeleri uyumla u\u00e7an ku\u015flar buna bir \u00f6rnek. Bu tarz aktif maddeler, son y\u0131llarda laboratuvarlarda, biyolojik ve sentetik bile\u015fenler kullanarak daha s\u0131k \u00fcretilmeye ba\u015fland\u0131. Mesela, mikro boyutlarda \u00fcretilmi\u015f olan, \u0131\u015f\u0131\u011fa hassas \u201cy\u00fczen\u201d plastikler. Bu tarz bir teori, fizik\u00e7ilerin uzun zaman \u00f6nce kurduklar\u0131 istatistiksel mekanik \u00fczerine geli\u015fecek olabilir. Ancak bundan daha \u00f6teye de gidebilir. E\u011fer bu olmam\u0131\u015f olsayd\u0131, organizmalar \u00e7ok daha yava\u015f ve edilgen i\u015flemler ger\u00e7ekle\u015ftirirdi. H\u00fccre i\u00e7lerinde ve dokularda DNA\u2019lar\u0131 hareket ettirmek i\u00e7in dif\u00fczyon kullan\u0131m\u0131 gibi. Bu tarz i\u015flemlerle bu kadar karma\u015f\u0131k ya\u015fam yap\u0131lar\u0131n\u0131n hi\u00e7biri olu\u015famazd\u0131. Bu zamana kadar fizik\u00e7iler ve biyologlar ya\u015fayan maddelerin genel prensipleri hakk\u0131nda tahminlerde bulundularsa da, ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar hep bu s\u00fcre\u00e7lerde yer alm\u0131\u015f molek\u00fclleri belirlemek \u00fczerineydi. Bu da, 90\u2019lar\u0131n ortas\u0131na kadar aktif madde ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar\u0131n\u0131n ba\u015flamamas\u0131na yol a\u00e7t\u0131.<\/p>\n<p>Bu alandaki en etkili ve ilk \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalardan biri, o zamanlar Princeton \u00dcniversitesi\u2019nde olan biyofizik\u00e7i Stanislas Leibler ve ekibi taraf\u0131ndan yap\u0131lm\u0131\u015f. Grup, ya\u015fayan organizmalar gibi karma\u015f\u0131k organizmalar\u0131n birka\u00e7 protein, mikrotubul\u00fcs ve ATP olan ortamda kendili\u011finden olu\u015fabildi\u011fini g\u00f6stermi\u015f. Yakla\u015f\u0131k olarak ayn\u0131 zamanlarda, E\u00f6tv\u00f6s Lor\u00e1nd \u00dcniversitesi\u2019nden teorik biyofizik\u00e7i Tamas Vicsek ise, alan\u0131 etkileyen bir aktif madde teorisi ortaya atm\u0131\u015f. 90\u2019lar\u0131n ba\u015flar\u0131nda Vicsek, bakteri kolonilerinin, ku\u015f s\u00fcr\u00fclerinin kolektif hareketlerini incelerken varolan teorilerin bu hareketleri a\u00e7\u0131klamada yetersiz kald\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 fark etmi\u015f.<\/p>\n<p>Bu durumda Vicsek farkl\u0131 bir ba\u015flang\u0131\u00e7 noktas\u0131 se\u00e7mi\u015f ve 1928\u2019de Heisenberg taraf\u0131ndan ortaya koyulan manyetik materyallerin modelini ele alm\u0131\u015f. Bu modelde Heisenberg her bir atomu serbest\u00e7e etraf\u0131nda d\u00f6nebilen m\u0131knat\u0131s \u00e7ubuklar\u0131 olarak d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcyor. Ula\u015ft\u0131\u011f\u0131 sonu\u00e7 ise, b\u00fcy\u00fck boyutlarda manyetizmaya sahip bir maddenin, bu manyetik \u00e7ubuklar\u0131n birbiri aras\u0131ndaki etkile\u015fimin, b\u00fcy\u00fck bir \u00e7o\u011funlu\u011funu ayn\u0131 do\u011frultuda hizaya getirdi\u011fi zaman olu\u015ftu\u011fu. Bu modelle g\u00f6sterdi\u011fi \u015fey ise, yeterince fazla ok, yeterince k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck bir alana hapsedilirse, bir s\u00fcre sonra bu oklar\u0131n ku\u015f s\u00fcr\u00fclerinin, bal\u0131k s\u00fcr\u00fclerinin yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 hareketlere benzer hareketler yapt\u0131klar\u0131.<\/p>\n<p>Vicsek 1995\u2019de bu modeli a\u00e7\u0131klad\u0131\u011f\u0131 makaleyi yay\u0131mlad\u0131\u011f\u0131nda \u00e7ok heyecanlanm\u0131\u015f. \u201cKoridorda y\u00fcr\u00fcy\u00fcp, Heisenberg modelinin hareket eden halini tasarlad\u0131m diyordum herkese\u201d diye anlat\u0131yor. Yay\u0131mlad\u0131\u011f\u0131 makale 3500\u2019den fazla at\u0131f alm\u0131\u015f.<\/p>\n<p>1994\u2019de Vicsek\u2019in sunumlar\u0131ndan birini dinleyen ve etkilenen, Oregon \u00dcniversitesi\u2019nden John Toner ise, bu s\u00fcr\u00fc oklar\u0131 s\u00fcrekli bir s\u0131v\u0131 olarak modelleyebilece\u011fini d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnm\u00fc\u015f. Hidrodinami\u011fin temel denklemlerini tek ba\u015f\u0131na par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131n enerjiyi nas\u0131l kulland\u0131\u011f\u0131 d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcncesine g\u00f6re de\u011fi\u015ftirmi\u015f ve elde etti\u011fi \u00f6ng\u00f6r\u00fcler genel olarak Vicsek\u2019in modeli ile uyu\u015fuyormu\u015f. Bu da aktif madde sim\u00fclasyonlar\u0131 ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar\u0131n\u0131n h\u0131z kazanmas\u0131na, hatta ba\u015fl\u0131 ba\u015f\u0131na bir alan olarak ba\u015flamas\u0131na yol a\u00e7m\u0131\u015f.<\/p>\n<p>Ama ortada bir sorun varm\u0131\u015f. Sim\u00fclasyonlar\u0131n say\u0131s\u0131 inan\u0131lmaz derecede artm\u0131\u015fken, niteliksel deneylerin say\u0131s\u0131 h\u00e2l\u00e2 s\u0131f\u0131ra yak\u0131n denecek kadar azm\u0131\u015f. Sonu\u00e7ta kimse 10 bin ku\u015f veya bal\u0131k ile kontroll\u00fc deney yapmay\u0131 hayal etmez. Mikroskopik boyutta deneyler yapabilmek i\u00e7in ise, hem teorik hem laboratuvar teknik bilgisine sahip biliminsan\u0131 say\u0131s\u0131 yok denecek kadar azm\u0131\u015f.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pratik sihir<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ancak 2000\u2019lerin sonlar\u0131na do\u011fru teorik ve deneysel sonu\u00e7lar\u0131n par\u00e7alar\u0131 bir araya gelmeye ba\u015flad\u0131. Bausch, bu alandaki ilk hassas ve niceliksel sonu\u00e7lara ula\u015fan biliminsanlar\u0131ndan biri. O ve tak\u0131m\u0131, aktini (karma\u015f\u0131k h\u00fccrelerin iskeletini olu\u015fturan filamentlerden biri), miyozinler (aktin \u00fczerinde \u201cy\u00fcr\u00fcyen\u201d ve kaslar\u0131n kas\u0131lmas\u0131n\u0131 sa\u011flayan bir molek\u00fcl) ile beraber yeteri miktarda ATP ile kar\u0131\u015ft\u0131rm\u0131\u015flar ve mikroskopta g\u00f6zlemlemi\u015fler. Bu deney sonucu olu\u015fan desen ve \u015fekiller Bausch\u2019unkilere g\u00f6re \u00e7ok daha dinamik ve karma\u015f\u0131k yap\u0131da. Ak\u0131\u015fkan mikrotubul\u00fcsler, sanki hareketli ve helezonik parmak izleri gibi hareket ediyor. Dogic ve tak\u0131m\u0131n\u0131n fark etti\u011fi bir ba\u015fka \u015fey de, bu d\u00fczenli hizalanma ak\u0131\u015f\u0131n\u0131n bir noktada \u00e7\u00f6k\u00fcp, hasarlar\u0131n olu\u015ftu\u011fu. Bu hasarlar s\u00fcrekli yap\u0131da bulunan hizalanma \u015fekillerinde, kuzey ve g\u00fcney kutbundaki boylamsal \u00e7izgilere benzer s\u00fcreksizlikler \u015feklinde g\u00f6r\u00fcl\u00fcyor. Durumu a\u00e7\u0131klaman\u0131n yan\u0131 s\u0131ra grup ayr\u0131ca bu hareketlerin i\u00e7inde olu\u015ftu\u011fu k\u00fcresel kabarc\u0131klar\u0131n \u00e7aplar\u0131 ve y\u00fczey gerginlikleri ile oynayarak, bu hasarlar\u0131n hareketlerini kontrol edebileceklerini bulmu\u015flar. Bu da aktif maddeleri kontrol edebilmek ad\u0131na m\u00fcmk\u00fcn olan bir yol olarak sunulmu\u015f.<\/p>\n<p>Dogic ve \u00f6\u011frencileri \u015fu an bunu yapmaya \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131yor. Donut \u015feklinde k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck yerlere hapsedilmi\u015f mikrotubul\u00fcs ve proteinlerin kendili\u011finden ak\u0131\u015flar\u0131n\u0131 inceliyorlar. B\u00f6ylelikle kendi kendini pompalayabilen ve molek\u00fclleri etraflar\u0131nda hareket ettiren mikroak\u0131\u015fkan ara\u00e7lara benzeyen s\u0131v\u0131lar i\u00e7in bir temel \u00e7al\u0131\u015fma yapm\u0131\u015f olmay\u0131 istiyorlar. Bu tarz ara\u00e7lar deneysel biyoloji, t\u0131p ve end\u00fcstride fazlas\u0131yla kullan\u0131lmaya ba\u015fland\u0131.<\/p>\n<p>Ancak bu tarz uygulamalar\u0131n end\u00fcstrilerde kullan\u0131lmaya ba\u015flamas\u0131n\u0131n \u00f6n\u00fcndeki en b\u00fcy\u00fck engel b\u00f6ylesi aktif maddeleri olu\u015fturmak i\u00e7in kullan\u0131lan biyomateryallerin pahal\u0131 olmas\u0131 ve safla\u015ft\u0131r\u0131lmas\u0131 i\u00e7in \u00e7ok fazla zaman harcanmas\u0131. Dogic\u2019in mikrotubul\u00fcsleri inek beyninden elde ediliyor ve laboratuvarda kullan\u0131lma s\u00fcreleri \u00e7ok k\u0131sa. Bu sorunlar a\u015f\u0131lmad\u0131\u011f\u0131 s\u00fcrece, end\u00fcstri kullan\u0131m\u0131n\u0131n yayg\u0131nla\u015fmas\u0131 \u00e7ok da m\u00fcmk\u00fcn g\u00f6z\u00fckm\u00fcyor.<\/p>\n<p>Bu tarz laboratuvar malzemeleri \u015fimdilik h\u00fccreler i\u00e7erisinde 4 milyar y\u0131ll\u0131k evrim sonucu \u00fcretilenlere k\u0131yasla ilkel kal\u0131yorlar.
