Mesela \u00e7al\u0131\u015fma masam\u0131z\u0131n koltu\u011fa, koltu\u011fun televizyona, televizyonun kap\u0131ya ve her bir \u00f6\u011fenin \u00f6teki \u00f6\u011felere uzakl\u0131klar\u0131 ve pozisyonlar\u0131n\u0131 biliriz. \u00d6te yandan odan\u0131n s\u0131n\u0131rlar\u0131na da a\u015finay\u0131zd\u0131r. \u00d6l\u00e7\u00fclerini say\u0131ya d\u00f6kemesek de, farkl\u0131 odalar\u0131 kendi odam\u0131z\u0131n b\u00fcy\u00fckl\u00fc\u011f\u00fcyle kar\u015f\u0131la\u015ft\u0131rabilecek d\u00fczeyde temel bir alg\u0131ya sahibizdir. Zaten \u00e7evremizi say\u0131lar olarak g\u00f6rmeyiz, daha \u00e7ok nesne ve s\u0131n\u0131rlar\u0131 birbirleriyle ili\u015fkileri i\u00e7erisinde d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcr\u00fcz.<\/p>\n<p>G\u00f6r\u00fcld\u00fc\u011f\u00fc gibi, asl\u0131nda mek\u00e2n ile etkile\u015fimimizin uzun ve k\u00f6kl\u00fc bir ge\u00e7mi\u015fi var. Nobel \u00f6d\u00fcl\u00fc \u00e7er\u00e7evesinde bakt\u0131\u011f\u0131m\u0131zda, bu alandaki n\u00f6robilim \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n\u0131n zaten 1970\u2019lerin ba\u015f\u0131na uzand\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 g\u00f6rece\u011fiz. \u00c7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n hedeflerini kabaca s\u0131ralamakta fayda var. Tahmin edilece\u011fi gibi \u00e7evre ve beyin aras\u0131ndaki etkile\u015fimin a\u00e7\u0131klanma \u00e7abas\u0131 bunlar\u0131n ba\u015f\u0131nda geliyor. Bunu a\u00e7\u0131klarken ileride daha ayr\u0131nt\u0131l\u0131 olarak ele alaca\u011f\u0131m\u0131z g\u00f6rsel-mek\u00e2nsal sistemleri i\u015fleten bellek tan\u0131mlar\u0131na ihtiya\u00e7 duyuldu\u011fu da bir ger\u00e7ek. Mek\u00e2n alg\u0131s\u0131nda de\u011fi\u015fim ya da zafiyete neden olan n\u00f6rolojik bir hastal\u0131k tablosu, \u00f6rne\u011fin beyin travmas\u0131 veyahut ensefalitin uzun s\u00fcreli hasarlar\u0131n\u0131n giderilmesine katk\u0131 sunmak gerekiyordu. Sadece bu da de\u011fil, demans ve Alzheimer t\u00fcr\u00fc, merkezi sinir sistemi hastal\u0131klar\u0131n\u0131nmek\u00e2n alg\u0131s\u0131 \u00fczerinde erken d\u00f6nemden ba\u015flayan dramatik bir zafiyete neden oldu\u011fu da bilindik bir ger\u00e7ekti. Sadece Alzheimer hastal\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131n ABD sa\u011fl\u0131k sistemine y\u00fck\u00fcn\u00fcn 160 milyar dolar oldu\u011fu<sup>(17)<\/sup> d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcl\u00fcrse, bu hastal\u0131\u011f\u0131 anlama ve \u00f6nleme giri\u015fimlerine neden bu kadar \u00f6nem verildi\u011fi de anla\u015f\u0131labilir. \u0130nsanda g\u00f6rsel-mek\u00e2nsal belle\u011fin i\u015fleyi\u015fine y\u00f6nelik getirilecek her a\u00e7\u0131klama,bu t\u00fcr hastal\u0131klar\u0131n \u00f6n te\u015fhisini kolayla\u015ft\u0131racak ve vakan\u0131n seyrini anlamay\u0131 kolayla\u015ft\u0131racakt\u0131r. Ayr\u0131ca \u00e7evre-beyin etkile\u015fimini anlamaya y\u00f6nelik \u00e7abalar\u0131n biri antropolojik di\u011feri teknolojik iki de\u011ferinden de bahsedilebilir. Merkezi sinir sisteminin geli\u015fiminin evrimsel arka plan\u0131n\u0131 anlamak ve navigasyon teknolojilerine bak\u0131\u015f a\u00e7\u0131s\u0131n\u0131 zenginle\u015ftirmek bunlardan sadece birka\u00e7\u0131d\u0131r.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anatomik yakla\u015f\u0131m<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Konuya temel te\u015fkil eden \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n ger\u00e7ekle\u015ftirildi\u011fi beyin h\u00fccresi tiplerini anlamak i\u00e7in k\u0131sa bir anatomik a\u00e7\u0131klama yapmakta fayda var. Hik\u00e2yemiz beynin temporal lobunun bellek s\u00fcre\u00e7leriyle olduk\u00e7a yak\u0131ndan ili\u015fkili bir \u00e7evriminde ger\u00e7ekle\u015fiyor.Hippokampal formasyon ad\u0131 verilen bu olu\u015fum, genel anlamda korteks alt\u0131ndakiAmmon boynuzu, dentate girus, subiculum ve enthorinal korteks yap\u0131lar\u0131ndan olu\u015fmaktad\u0131r. \u00d6zellikle hippokampus ad\u0131n\u0131 alan ve Ammon boynuzu ve dentate girusun kenetlenmesi ile olu\u015fmu\u015f yap\u0131 \u00f6nemlidir. K\u0131sa s\u00fcreli bellek ve uzun s\u00fcreli belle\u011fin yerle\u015fikle\u015fmesi, mek\u00e2nsal oryantasyon gibi konularda limbik sistem ile yo\u011fun i\u015fbirli\u011fi i\u00e7erisinde \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131r. Limbik sistemin, duygu, davran\u0131\u015f ve motivasyon durumlar\u0131 ile bellek sisteminin i\u015fletilmesinde can al\u0131c\u0131 \u00f6nemde oldu\u011fu da bilinmektedir. Bunun d\u0131\u015f\u0131nda hippokampal formasyon, alan h\u00fccrelerinin (place cell) yan\u0131 s\u0131ra ba\u015f\u0131n y\u00f6nelimine katk\u0131 sunan \u00f6zelle\u015fmi\u015f h\u00fccreler, \u015febeke h\u00fccreleri (grid cell) ve s\u0131n\u0131r h\u00fccrelerine (boundary cell) ev sahipli\u011fi yapmaktad\u0131r. Buradaki h\u00fccreler piramidal ve gran\u00fcler \u00f6zelliktedir. Yani katmanl\u0131 ve korteks benzeri bir h\u00fccre mimarisi ile kar\u015f\u0131la\u015f\u0131yoruz. Hippokampusun i\u015flevsel \u00f6zelliklerinden \u00f6ne \u00e7\u0131kanlar aras\u0131nda, yak\u0131n bellek ve s\u00f6zel sembolizasyon da bulunur. Ayr\u0131ca k\u0131sa s\u00fcreli belle\u011fin uzun s\u00fcreli bellek olarak yerle\u015fik hale getirilmesinde g\u00f6rev ald\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 bilmekteyiz. Forniks ad\u0131 verilen g\u00f6t\u00fcr\u00fcc\u00fc lif yukar\u0131da bahsedilen limbik sistem yap\u0131lar\u0131na ba\u011flant\u0131s\u0131n\u0131 sa\u011flamaktad\u0131r. Bu b\u00f6lgenin ortadan kalkmas\u0131, yahut farkl\u0131 \u015fekillerde uyar\u0131ma maruz kalmas\u0131 davran\u0131\u015fta, hatta hormonal d\u00fczende \u00e7e\u015fitli de\u011fi\u015fikliklere neden olabilir. K\u0131saca \u00f6zetlemek gerekirse, ba\u015fta hippokampus olmak \u00fczere hippokampal formasyon ad\u0131n\u0131 verdi\u011fimiz yap\u0131n\u0131n, mek\u00e2na \u00f6zg\u00fc \u00f6zelle\u015fmi\u015f h\u00fccreler ile \u00f6\u011frenme ve bellek d\u0131\u015f\u0131nda mek\u00e2nsal adaptasyon ve fark\u0131ndal\u0131\u011f\u0131 kapsad\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 art\u0131k bilmekteyiz. Peki hippokampal bellek ne demektir? N\u00f6ronal aktivasyonun kapsam\u0131, alan\u0131n geni\u015fli\u011fine yani \u00f6l\u00e7\u00fclerine g\u00f6re de\u011fi\u015fmektedir.<sup>(1)<\/sup> 1971 y\u0131l\u0131nda O\u2019Keefe ve Dotrovyski\u2019nin ilk olarak g\u00f6zlemledi\u011fi bu h\u00fccrelere alan h\u00fccresi ad\u0131 verilmi\u015ftir (\u015eekil 1). Sonraki \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar da g\u00f6stermi\u015ftir ki, bu tip h\u00fccreler belirli lokasyonlar\u0131n g\u00f6rsel-mek\u00e2nsal bili\u015fsel temsili d\u00fczeyinde etkinlik g\u00f6stermektedir. \u00c7al\u0131\u015fma, hayvan\u0131n hippokampusuna elektrofizyolojik \u00f6l\u00e7\u00fcm alan elektrot yerle\u015ftirilmesi suretiyle kay\u0131t al\u0131nmas\u0131 esas\u0131na dayanmaktad\u0131r. \u00d6rne\u011fin silindirik kapal\u0131 bir alana yerle\u015ftirilen s\u0131\u00e7an ilk kez kar\u015f\u0131la\u015ft\u0131\u011f\u0131 bu ortam\u0131 tan\u0131mak i\u00e7in kendi do\u011fas\u0131na \u00f6zg\u00fc tan\u0131ma y\u00f6ntemlerini kullanmaya ba\u015fl\u0131yor. S\u0131\u00e7anlar\u0131n memeliler i\u00e7erisinde dikkat \u00e7eken d\u00fczeyde \u00f6ne \u00e7\u0131kan koku ile tan\u0131ma yetene\u011fi olduk\u00e7a geli\u015fmi\u015ftir. Bunu, olfakt\u00f6r bulbus (koku so\u011fan\u0131) ad\u0131 verilen ve limbik sistemin bir nevi \u00f6ne uzant\u0131s\u0131 olan duyum arac\u0131\u011f\u0131yla sa\u011flarlar. \u0130nsandakinden katbekat geli\u015fkin olan bu anatomik \u00f6zellik sayesinde, ortam\u0131n kokular\u0131na y\u00f6nelik belirgin bir tan\u0131ma yetene\u011fi de g\u00f6r\u00fclmektedir (\u0130nsan t\u00fcr\u00fcnde iki ayak \u00fczerinde hareket etme yetene\u011fi kafan\u0131n toprak zeminden uzakla\u015fmas\u0131yla daha y\u00fcksek bir g\u00f6r\u00fc\u015f alan\u0131 sa\u011flam\u0131\u015f olmak gibi bir avantaj yaratsa da, beraberinde kokunun \u00f6nemli bir kayna\u011f\u0131 olan topraktan uzakla\u015fmayla birlikte koku duyusunun nispeten zay\u0131flamas\u0131na neden olmu\u015ftur).Yeni bir ortama giren s\u0131\u00e7an ayr\u0131ca, b\u0131y\u0131klar\u0131, g\u00f6zleri ve denge organ\u0131ndan gelen bilgiler ile yerel alan\u0131n fiziksel \u00f6zelliklerine ili\u015fkin bilgileri mek\u00e2n\u0131 dola\u015farak toplamaktad\u0131r. Belirli bir s\u00fcre sonra ayn\u0131 ortama yeniden sokulan bu hayvan,mek\u00e2na dair \u00f6nceki tecr\u00fcbelerini kullanmaktad\u0131r. \u00d6rne\u011fin s\u0131\u00e7an yeni ve a\u00e7\u0131k bir mek\u00e2na giri\u015f yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131nda, normalde aktif olmayan h\u00fccre gruplar\u0131 aktive olmaktad\u0131r.<sup>(2)<\/sup>Mek\u00e2n\u0131n belirli noktalar\u0131nda,hippokampusun alan h\u00fccrelerinde yo\u011fun bir ate\u015fleme d\u00fczeni g\u00f6zlemlenmektedir. Alan h\u00fccreleri d\u00fczensiz k\u00fcmeler halinde aktivasyon olu\u015ftururken \u015febeke h\u00fccreleri hekzagonal \u00f6rg\u00fc d\u00fczeninde kodlama ger\u00e7ekle\u015ftirir.
