Fotosentez, \u00f6zellikle de oksijenik (oksijen \u00fcreten) fotosentez d\u00fcnyay\u0131 \u00f6nemli \u00f6l\u00e7\u00fcde de\u011fi\u015ftirmi\u015ftir. Fotosentez ile olu\u015fan oksijen canl\u0131lar taraf\u0131ndan solunumda kullan\u0131lmakla kalmaz, ayn\u0131 zamanda d\u00fcnyay\u0131 mor\u00f6tesi \u0131\u015f\u0131nlardan koruyan ozon tabakas\u0131n\u0131n olu\u015fmas\u0131n\u0131 da sa\u011flar. Fotosentezin, geli\u015fmi\u015f ya\u015fam formlar\u0131n\u0131n ortaya \u00e7\u0131kmas\u0131na olanak verdi\u011fi i\u00e7in d\u00fcnyan\u0131n en \u00f6nemli biyokimyasal yolu oldu\u011fu s\u00f6ylenebilir.<\/p>\n<p>Peki bu kadar \u00f6nemli ve karma\u015f\u0131k bir yol nas\u0131l ortaya \u00e7\u0131km\u0131\u015ft\u0131r? Bu soru uzun s\u00fcre ayd\u0131nlat\u0131lamam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r, \u00e7\u00fcnk\u00fc fotosentezle ilgili gen b\u00f6lgelerinin bulunmas\u0131 zaman alm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Son y\u0131llarda fotosentezin evrimi konusunda molek\u00fcler d\u00fczeyde pek \u00e7ok \u00e7al\u0131\u015fma yap\u0131lm\u0131\u015f ve \u00f6nemli bir bilgi birikimi olu\u015fmu\u015ftur. \u00c7al\u0131\u015fmalar h\u0131zla devam etmekte ve yeni sonu\u00e7lar heyecanla beklenmektedir. \u015eimdiye kadar elde edilen sonu\u00e7lar fotosentezin evrimiyle ilgili olarak bize \u015funlar\u0131 s\u00f6ylemektedir:<\/p>\n<p>Fotosentez bir b\u00fct\u00fcn olarak ortaya \u00e7\u0131kmam\u0131\u015f; farkl\u0131 k\u00f6kenlere sahip pek \u00e7ok yolun bir araya gelmesiyle olu\u015fmu\u015ftur. Yani fotosentez i\u00e7in tek bir k\u00f6kenden bahsetmek m\u00fcmk\u00fcn de\u011fildir (asl\u0131nda bu, fotosentez gibi karma\u015f\u0131k biyokimyasal yollar\u0131n hemen hepsi i\u00e7in ge\u00e7erlidir); ancak bildi\u011fimiz anlamda fotosentezin ortaya \u00e7\u0131kmas\u0131nda iki kilit yap\u0131 bulunur. Bunlardan biri Mg tetrapirol, di\u011feri ise tepkime merkezi apoproteinleridir.<\/p>\n<p>Bu kilit yap\u0131lar\u0131n k\u00f6keni konusunu \u015fimdilik bu noktada b\u0131rakal\u0131m ve g\u00fcn\u00fcm\u00fcze d\u00f6nelim. Ara\u015ft\u0131r\u0131c\u0131lar Yeni Zelanda\u2019daki bir s\u0131cak su kayna\u011f\u0131nda bir bakteri buldular ve ismini <em>Chlorobium tepidum<\/em> koydular. Bu bakteri ye\u015fil s\u00fclf\u00fcr bakterileri grubunun (bu grubun ismi bakterilerin renginden ve fotosentez yapmak i\u00e7in ihtiya\u00e7 duyduklar\u0131 s\u00fclf\u00fcr bile\u015fiklerinden ileri gelir) bir \u00fcyesidir. Biyologlar ye\u015fil s\u00fclf\u00fcr bakterilerine, fotosentezi di\u011fer bakteri ve bitkilerden farkl\u0131 bir \u015fekilde yapt\u0131klar\u0131 i\u00e7in \u00f6nem verirler. Bu bakterilerde kloroplast (bitkilerde fotosentezin ger\u00e7ekle\u015fti\u011fi organel) bulunmaz; onun yerine bakterinin sitoplazma zar\u0131ndaki elektron ta\u015f\u0131ma zincirinden enerji elde eden klorozom denen yap\u0131lar bulunur. Klorozomlarda bulunan ve \u0131\u015f\u0131\u011f\u0131 yakalamaktan sorumlu olan klorofil ve karotenoidlerin yap\u0131s\u0131 di\u011fer t\u00fcrlerdekinden farkl\u0131d\u0131r. Ayr\u0131ca ye\u015fil s\u00fclf\u00fcr bakterileri fotosentezi oksijensiz ortamlarda yapar ve yan \u00fcr\u00fcn olarak olarak oksijen olu\u015fturmaz.<\/p>\n<p>Rockville-Maryland\u2019deki Genomik Ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar Enstit\u00fcs\u00fc\u2019nden (TIGR-The Institute for Genomic Research) evrimsel biyolog Jonathan A. Eisen bu konuda \u015f\u00f6yle diyor: \u201cI\u015f\u0131k enerjisini kullanmada kulland\u0131klar\u0131 s\u0131rad\u0131\u015f\u0131 mekanizmalardan \u00f6t\u00fcr\u00fc, ye\u015fil s\u00fclf\u00fcr bakterileri hem fotosentez hem de h\u00fccresel enerji metabolizmas\u0131 mekanizmalar\u0131n\u0131n ve bu mekanizmalar\u0131n evriminin anla\u015f\u0131lmas\u0131 a\u00e7\u0131s\u0131ndan \u00f6nemlidir. Oksijensiz ortamda fotosentez yapabilme yetene\u011finin bulunmu\u015f olmas\u0131, evrimsel \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar i\u00e7in olduk\u00e7a \u00f6nemlidir, \u00e7\u00fcnk\u00fc d\u00fcnyan\u0131n ilkin atmosferinde \u00e7ok az oksijen oldu\u011fu d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcl\u00fcyor. \u0130\u015fte bu nedenle baz\u0131 bilim insanlar\u0131 ye\u015fil s\u00fclf\u00fcr bakterilerinin ilk fotosentetik organizmalar oldu\u011funu d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcyorlar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>C. tepidum<\/em> gibi ye\u015fil s\u00fclf\u00fcr bakterileri \u0131\u015f\u0131\u011f\u0131n ula\u015ft\u0131\u011f\u0131 oksijensiz (az oksijenli) hemen b\u00fct\u00fcn sucul katmanlarda bulunmaktad\u0131r. TIGR ara\u015ft\u0131r\u0131c\u0131lar\u0131 <em>C. tepidum<\/em>\u2019un genomunun tamam\u0131n\u0131 analiz ettiler ve fotosentez ile ilgili genlerini tan\u0131mlad\u0131lar. Di\u011fer canl\u0131lar\u0131n genom analizleri ile kar\u015f\u0131la\u015ft\u0131rd\u0131klar\u0131nda ise ye\u015fil s\u00fclf\u00fcr bakterileri ile pek \u00e7ok Archaea (Canl\u0131lar \u00fc\u00e7e ayr\u0131l\u0131r: Archaea &#8211; bir zamanlar Archaebacteria olarak bilinirdi, Eubacteria &#8211; ger\u00e7ek bakteriler ve Eucarya &#8211; \u00f6karyotlar yani ger\u00e7ek \u00e7ekirdekliler) t\u00fcr\u00fc aras\u0131nda metabolik s\u00fcre\u00e7ler bak\u0131m\u0131ndan b\u00fcy\u00fck benzerlikler buldular.<\/p>\n<p>Biyologlar\u0131n ye\u015fil s\u00fclf\u00fcr bakterilerini \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n\u0131n bir ba\u015fka nedeni de, bunlar\u0131n karbondioksiti di\u011fer bakteri ve bitkilerden farkl\u0131 \u015fekilde almalar\u0131. Bunlar karbondioksit tespitinde indirgeyici trikarboksilik asit (TCA) d\u00f6ng\u00fcs\u00fc denen ve y\u00fcksek bitkilerde g\u00f6r\u00fclen Calvin d\u00f6ng\u00fcs\u00fcnden farkl\u0131 bir yol kullan\u0131rlar. TCA d\u00f6ng\u00fcs\u00fcnde karbondioksit tespiti yapmak i\u00e7in elektronlar hidrojenden ya da indirgenmi\u015f s\u00fclf\u00fcr bile\u015fiklerinden elde edilir. (Oysa Calvin d\u00f6ng\u00fcs\u00fcnde oksijen gerekir.)<\/p>\n<p>\u015eimdi yine ge\u00e7mi\u015fe d\u00f6nelim. Fosil kay\u0131tlar\u0131na g\u00f6re biyolojik karbon sabitleme yapabilen ilk canl\u0131lar bundan 3,8 milyar y\u0131l \u00f6nce ortaya \u00e7\u0131km\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Siyanobakteri benzeri ilk canl\u0131lar ise 3,5 milyar y\u0131l \u00f6nce olu\u015fmu\u015ftur. Ancak siyanobakterilerin d\u00fcnyadaki h\u00e2kimiyeti 2,7 milyar y\u0131l \u00f6nceye rastlar. Ayn\u0131 zaman diliminde atmosferdeki oksijen seviyesi de artmaya ba\u015flam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Bunu izleyen 1 milyar y\u0131l boyunca siyanobakteriler atmosferdeki oksijen seviyesini bug\u00fcnk\u00fcn\u00fcn d\u00f6rtte biri kadar art\u0131rm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Siyanobakterilerin ba\u015far\u0131s\u0131 sadece fotosentezin enerji ile ilgili avantajlar\u0131na de\u011fil, ortaya \u00e7\u0131kan oksijen gaz\u0131n\u0131n di\u011fer canl\u0131lar\u0131 zehirleyip rekabeti azaltmas\u0131na da ba\u011flanmaktad\u0131r. \u0130lk \u00f6karyotlar 1,8 milyar y\u0131l \u00f6nce g\u00f6r\u00fclmeye ba\u015flan\u0131r. Fotosentetik siyanobakterilerin \u00f6karyotlar\u0131n yap\u0131s\u0131na kat\u0131lmas\u0131 (yani kloroplastlar\u0131n olu\u015fumu) ise bir 0,6-0,8 milyar y\u0131l daha alm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. B\u00f6ylece ortaya \u00e7\u0131kan algler atmosferdeki oksijen seviyesini g\u00fcn\u00fcm\u00fczdeki seviyeye \u00e7\u0131karm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Alglerin torunlar\u0131, karasal bitkiler, 0,5 milyar y\u0131l \u00f6nce g\u00f6r\u00fclmeye ba\u015flad\u0131lar ve o zamandan bu yana g\u00f6rmeye al\u0131\u015f\u0131k oldu\u011fumuz manzaralar\u0131 olu\u015fturdular.<\/p>\n<p>\u0130lk fotosentetik pigmentlerin kemoototrof canl\u0131lardan t\u00fcredi\u011fi art\u0131k yayg\u0131n olarak kabul edilmektedir. Bu canl\u0131lar s\u00f6z konusu pigmentleri kullanarak \u0131\u015f\u0131ktan ek enerji kayna\u011f\u0131 olarak istifade ediyorlard\u0131. Nisbet ve arkada\u015flar\u0131, 1995\u2019te yapt\u0131klar\u0131 bir \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmada anoksijenik fotosentezin, k\u0131z\u0131l\u00f6tesi fototaksis yapan mor bakterilerden t\u00fcremi\u015f olabilece\u011fini iddia etmi\u015ftir. Ara\u015ft\u0131r\u0131c\u0131lar jeotermal \u0131\u015f\u0131\u011f\u0131n emisyon spektrumu ile bakteriyoklorofil a ve b\u2019nin absorbsiyon spektrumu aras\u0131ndaki uyu\u015fmadan hareketle, fotosentezin, zay\u0131f rayoaktif \u0131\u015f\u0131man\u0131n tespit edilebilece\u011fi okyanus hidrotermal a\u011f\u0131zlar\u0131n\u0131n yak\u0131nlar\u0131nda ya\u015fayan ve bakteriyoklorofil a ve b ta\u015f\u0131yan organizmalardan t\u00fcredi\u011fini iddia etmi\u015flerdir. Ara\u015ft\u0131r\u0131c\u0131lara g\u00f6re bu canl\u0131lar klorofili ba\u015flang\u0131\u00e7ta fototaksiste yol bulmak i\u00e7in kullan\u0131yorlard\u0131. Genetik analizler de mor bakterilerin ilk fotosentez yapan canl\u0131lar oldu\u011funu g\u00f6stermektedir.<\/p>\n<p>Tepkime merkezi apoproteinleri \u00fczerine yap\u0131lan molek\u00fcler \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalarda ise, bu polipeptidlerin h\u00fccre i\u00e7i solunum reaksiyonlar\u0131nda kullan\u0131lan sitokrom komplekslerinden t\u00fcredi\u011fi anla\u015f\u0131lm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r.<\/p>\n<p>Sonu\u00e7 olarak fotosentezin biyokimyasal tepkimeleri birdenbire ortaya \u00e7\u0131kmam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Farkl\u0131 i\u015flere yarayan yollar\u0131n birle\u015fmesi sonucu, kademeli olarak olu\u015fmu\u015ftur. \u00d6nce oksijensiz fotosentez ortaya \u00e7\u0131km\u0131\u015f ve farkl\u0131 g\u00f6revler \u00fcstlenmi\u015f olan pigment ve apoproteinlerin s\u00fcrece kat\u0131lmas\u0131yla oksijenli fotosentez ortaya \u00e7\u0131km\u0131\u015ft\u0131r.<\/p>\n<p>Fotosentezin evrimiyle ilgili kaydedilen geli\u015fmelere ra\u011fmen h\u00e2l\u00e2 \u00e7\u00f6z\u00fclmeyi bekleyen sorular bulunmaktad\u0131r. \u00d6rne\u011fin ilkin fotosistemlerin tam olarak nas\u0131l \u00e7al\u0131\u015ft\u0131\u011f\u0131, siyanobakterilerde suyu oksitleme \u00f6zelli\u011finin nas\u0131l ortaya \u00e7\u0131kt\u0131\u011f\u0131 hen\u00fcz anla\u015f\u0131lamam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r.
