Bu ge\u00e7mi\u015f g\u00fcn\u00fcm\u00fczde son radyometrik tarihlemelere bak\u0131l\u0131rsa milyonlarca y\u0131lla ifade edilir hale geldi. Ne zaman kendi k\u00f6kenimiz ve evrimimiz g\u00fcndeme gelse, bilin\u00e7li ya da bilin\u00e7siz olarak hemen \u00f6zel yarat\u0131k ve biricik canl\u0131 oldu\u011fumuz d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcncesine kap\u0131l\u0131yor, kendimizi di\u011fer canl\u0131lardan apayr\u0131 bir konuma koyuyoruz. Baz\u0131 canl\u0131larla ger\u00e7ekte aram\u0131zda var olan genetik yak\u0131nl\u0131\u011f\u0131 bir t\u00fcrl\u00fc i\u00e7imize sindiremiyoruz. Do\u011fada bize yak\u0131n akraba t\u00fcrler hangileridir sorusunu sormaya korkuyoruz. Bat\u0131da y\u00fczy\u0131llar boyu kilise (J\u00fcdaizm ve H\u0131ristiyanl\u0131k) \u00e7evrelerinde egemen olan g\u00f6r\u00fc\u015fe g\u00f6re yery\u00fcz\u00fcnde ya\u015fayan herhangi bir canl\u0131 ile yak\u0131nl\u0131\u011f\u0131m\u0131z s\u00f6z konusu olamaz. Biz insanlar Tanr\u0131\u2019n\u0131n yery\u00fcz\u00fcndeki temsilcisiyiz ve onun imaj\u0131nda yarat\u0131lm\u0131\u015f\u0131z. \u0130nsan olarak bir\u00e7ok \u00f6zelli\u011fi di\u011fer canl\u0131larla payla\u015fmaktay\u0131z. \u0130sve\u00e7li do\u011fa bilgini Carl Linnaeus\u2019un (1707-1778) olu\u015fturdu\u011fu s\u0131n\u0131fland\u0131rma sistemine g\u00f6re, insan\u0131 da t\u00fcm di\u011fer hayvanlar gibi canl\u0131lar d\u00fcnyas\u0131 i\u00e7inde belirli bir yere oturtabiliyoruz. K\u00f6kenimizle ilgili g\u00f6r\u00fc\u015flerde Darwin zaman\u0131ndan 1960\u2019l\u0131 y\u0131llara kadar pek fazla bir yenilik olmad\u0131. 1960\u2019l\u0131 y\u0131llardan itibaren molek\u00fcler biyoloji alan\u0131nda kaydedilen geli\u015fmelerin insan evrimine yans\u0131t\u0131lmas\u0131yla birlikte, evrim tarihimizin yorumunda gen ad\u0131 verdi\u011fimiz yepyeni bir unsur paleontolojik verilerin yan\u0131nda yerini ald\u0131. Ge\u00e7mi\u015fimizle ilgili s\u0131rlar\u0131 art\u0131k DNA ad\u0131 verdi\u011fimiz molek\u00fcl i\u00e7inde aramaya ba\u015flad\u0131k. Morris Goodman adl\u0131 bir ara\u015ft\u0131r\u0131c\u0131 1963 y\u0131l\u0131nda imm\u00fcnolojik y\u00f6ntemler kullanmak suretiyle goril, \u015fempanze, orangutan ve insan\u0131n proteinlerini kar\u015f\u0131la\u015ft\u0131rd\u0131 ve insana en yak\u0131n olan\u0131n Asya iri primat\u0131 orangutan de\u011fil de, Afrika iri primatlar\u0131 goril ve \u015fempanze oldu\u011funu kan\u0131tlad\u0131. O halde insan\u0131n uzak atalar\u0131 Afrika\u2019da t\u00fcremi\u015fti. Ne var ki onun y\u00f6ntemi kalitatif (tan\u0131msal) bulgulara dayan\u0131yordu; insan ve Afrika iri primatlar\u0131 aras\u0131ndaki yak\u0131nl\u0131\u011f\u0131 kantitatif (say\u0131sal) olarak a\u00e7\u0131klamas\u0131na imk\u00e2n vermiyordu. 1967\u2019de Vincent Sarich ve Allan Wilson bu sorunu \u00e7\u00f6zmeyi ba\u015fard\u0131 ve orangutan, \u015fempanze, goril ve insan aras\u0131ndaki protein farkl\u0131l\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 kantitatif olarak a\u00e7\u0131klad\u0131. Modern DNA teknolojisi protein teknolojisinden daha h\u0131zl\u0131 ve daha bilgilendiriciydi. \u0130nsan genomunun baz\u0131 genetik unsurlar\u0131 (\u00f6rne\u011fin mitokondriyal DNA &#8211; mtDNA) filogenetik ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar i\u00e7in \u00e7ok elveri\u015flidir. \u0130nsan\u0131n k\u00f6keni ve evrimini geriye do\u011fru s\u00fcrerken bug\u00fcn DNA polimorfizminden yararlan\u0131lmaktad\u0131r. \u0130nsan ve Asya ile Afrika iri primatlar\u0131 \u00fczerinde ger\u00e7ekle\u015ftirilen genom \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131 sayesinde d\u00f6rt t\u00fcr (goril, \u015fempanze, orangutan ve insan) aras\u0131ndaki DNA uzakl\u0131klar\u0131 belirlenmi\u015f oldu. Ger\u00e7ekten de \u015fempanze ile insan aras\u0131ndaki genetik farkl\u0131l\u0131k derecesi \u015fa\u015f\u0131lacak \u00f6l\u00e7\u00fcde k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fckt\u00fc. Molek\u00fcler saat geriye do\u011fru i\u015fletilmek suretiyle insan ve \u015fempanzenin a\u015fa\u011f\u0131 yukar\u0131 5 milyon y\u0131l \u00f6ncesinde ayr\u0131larak farkl\u0131 birer evrim \u00e7izgisi izledikleri ortaya kondu. Molek\u00fcler geneti\u011fin devreye girmesiyle 1967\u2019den sonra evrim tarihimizin kurgulanmas\u0131nda dikkate al\u0131nan eski kuram terk edildi ve b\u00f6ylece Darwin\u2019in insan evrimine ili\u015fkin g\u00f6r\u00fc\u015f\u00fc de yeniden \u015fekillendirildi. Onun insana ili\u015fkin evrim kuram\u0131 art\u0131k premolek\u00fcler g\u00f6r\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn egemen oldu\u011fu d\u00f6nemin i\u00e7inde kalm\u0131\u015ft\u0131. 1977 y\u0131l\u0131 ise molek\u00fcler genetikte bir d\u00f6n\u00fcm noktas\u0131 oldu; zira bu tarihte DNA dizilimini \u00e7\u00f6zmek i\u00e7in teknikler ke\u015ffedildi. Uzun zaman belirli bir d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnceye ba\u011fl\u0131 kalarak g\u00f6r\u00fc\u015flerini a\u00e7\u0131klayan bilim adamlar\u0131n\u0131 molek\u00fcler geneti\u011fin getirdi\u011fi yeni bulgulara 40 y\u0131l i\u00e7inde al\u0131\u015ft\u0131rmak kolay olmad\u0131. Bu y\u00fczden Sarich ve Wilson\u2019un 1960\u2019l\u0131 y\u0131llarda vard\u0131\u011f\u0131 sonu\u00e7lar \u00f6nceleri pek kabul g\u00f6rmedi. Molek\u00fcler geneti\u011fe ku\u015fku ile bakanlara g\u00f6re, insan evriminde molek\u00fcler yakla\u015f\u0131m dikkate al\u0131nmamal\u0131yd\u0131. Bir ba\u015fka deyi\u015fle paleontolojik bulgular ile genetik bulgular \u00f6rt\u00fc\u015febilecek miydi? Do\u011fal olarak bu tart\u0131\u015fma retorik yoldan de\u011fil de, somut kan\u0131tlar ve bu kan\u0131tlar\u0131n analiziyle ortadan kalkt\u0131. Bug\u00fcn art\u0131k iki bilim dal\u0131 uyum i\u00e7inde \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmakta; geni\u015f kabul g\u00f6ren goril-\u015fempanze ve insan aras\u0131ndaki akrabal\u0131k ili\u015fkisinden hareketle bir filogenetik a\u011fa\u00e7 \u00e7izilmi\u015ftir. Bu filogenetik ili\u015fki yeni birtak\u0131m sorular\u0131 da beraberinde getirdi; insana akraba olan goril ve \u015fempanzeden hangisi ortak atadan daha erken ayr\u0131lm\u0131\u015f olmal\u0131yd\u0131? \u0130\u015fte bu noktada molek\u00fcler genetik bulgular imdad\u0131m\u0131za yeti\u015fiyor. Buna g\u00f6re, goril bu ortak atadan a\u015fa\u011f\u0131 yukar\u0131 7 milyon y\u0131l \u00f6nce ilk ayr\u0131lan iri primat olmu\u015f. Bunu a\u015fa\u011f\u0131 yukar\u0131 5 milyon y\u0131l \u00f6nce \u015fempanze ve insan\u0131n ayr\u0131lmas\u0131 izlemi\u015f. Zaman\u0131m\u0131zdan 2-3 milyon y\u0131l \u00f6nce de \u015fempanze ve bonobo t\u00fcrleri birbirlerinden ayr\u0131lm\u0131\u015f.<\/p>\n<p>Bilim d\u00fcnyas\u0131 evrim \u015femas\u0131n\u0131 bug\u00fcne kadar edinilen bilimsel verilerin \u0131\u015f\u0131\u011f\u0131nda yeniden olu\u015fturmu\u015ftur. \u00d6rne\u011fin insan\u0131n yery\u00fcz\u00fcndeki evrimsel \u00f6yk\u00fcs\u00fc \u00f6yle tek bir \u00e7izgi halinde izlenmesi s\u00f6z konusu olmayan, bir a\u011fac\u0131n yanlara uzanan irili ufakl\u0131 dallar\u0131na benzetilen karma\u015f\u0131k ve bir o kadar da heyecan verici uzun ve zorlu bir yolculuktur. Biz bunu insan\u0131n soy a\u011fac\u0131 (filogenetik a\u011fa\u00e7) olarak tan\u0131ml\u0131yoruz. T\u00fcm canl\u0131lar i\u00e7in ge\u00e7erli olan genetik de\u011fi\u015fim mekanizmas\u0131 canl\u0131lar d\u00fcnyas\u0131n\u0131n bir par\u00e7as\u0131 say\u0131lan insan i\u00e7in de ge\u00e7erlidir. Evrimin ger\u00e7ekle\u015fmesinde rol oynayan mutasyon, varyasyon ve do\u011fal ay\u0131klanma fakt\u00f6rlerinin d\u0131\u015f\u0131nda tutulamaz insan.<\/p>\n<p>Canl\u0131lar d\u00fcnyas\u0131ndaki biyolojik \u00e7e\u015fitlenmeden yola \u00e7\u0131karak g\u00f6zlemledi\u011fi de\u011fi\u015fim s\u00fcrecini (evrimi) ve t\u00fcrlerin k\u00f6kenini ilk kez do\u011fal ay\u0131klanma yoluyla a\u00e7\u0131klayan Charles Darwin\u2019in, ger\u00e7ekte evrim mekanizmas\u0131n\u0131n h\u00fccre d\u00fczeyindeki genetik yenilenme-genetik \u00e7e\u015fitlenme-do\u011fal ay\u0131klanma d\u00fczene\u011fi i\u00e7inde i\u015fleyen bir s\u00fcre\u00e7 oldu\u011funu bulan de\u011fil de fark eden iyi bir g\u00f6zlemci oldu\u011funu burada \u00f6zellikle vurgulamam\u0131z gerekir. Ku\u015fkusuz Charles Darwin, \u00e7a\u011f\u0131n\u0131n bilimsel anlay\u0131\u015f\u0131 i\u00e7erisinde evrim mekanizmas\u0131n\u0131, bitkiler ve hayvanlar d\u00fcnyas\u0131ndaki \u00e7e\u015fitlili\u011fin ortaya \u00e7\u0131k\u0131\u015f nedenlerini yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 etkin ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar ve g\u00f6zlemler sayesinde mevcut t\u00fcrler ile yok olmu\u015f t\u00fcrlerin aras\u0131ndaki akrabal\u0131k ili\u015fkisine dayanarak kurgulayan ilk ara\u015ft\u0131r\u0131c\u0131d\u0131r. 24 Kas\u0131m 1859\u2019da <em>T\u00fcrlerin K\u00f6keni<\/em>\u2019ni yay\u0131mlad\u0131\u011f\u0131nda t\u00fcrlerin de\u011fi\u015fim s\u00fcrecinin do\u011fal ay\u0131klanma yoluyla ger\u00e7ekle\u015fmi\u015f oldu\u011fu hipotezini ortaya koyarken, o zaman i\u00e7in ger\u00e7ek anlamda devrim yaratacak olan bir teze damgas\u0131n\u0131 vurmu\u015ftu. Bu kuram asl\u0131nda onun tek ba\u015f\u0131na geli\u015ftirdi\u011fi bir d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnce de\u011fildi; \u00e7a\u011fda\u015f\u0131 Alfred Russel Wallace\u2019\u0131n da bu d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcncenin olgunla\u015fmas\u0131nda katk\u0131s\u0131 oldu. Ancak Darwin, \u00f6zellikle kilise \u00e7evresinden gelecek tepkileri tahmin ederek i\u015fleri daha da karma\u015f\u0131k hale getirmemek i\u00e7in insanla ilgili d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcncelerini bir s\u00fcre yay\u0131na d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015ft\u00fcrmedi. 12 y\u0131l bekledikten sonra \u015eubat 1871\u2019de <em>\u0130nsan\u0131n K\u00f6keni <\/em>adl\u0131 \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmas\u0131n\u0131 yay\u0131mlad\u0131. Bitkiler ve hayvanlar i\u00e7in \u00f6ng\u00f6rd\u00fc\u011f\u00fc evrim mekanizmas\u0131 kabul edilebilirdi, ama i\u015fin i\u00e7ine insan girince durum de\u011fi\u015fti; Darwin sadece kilise \u00e7evrelerinden de\u011fil Wallace\u2019dan bile tepki ald\u0131. Ne yaz\u0131k ki Darwin genetik alan\u0131ndaki \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131yla \u00fcn salan Avusturyal\u0131 din adam\u0131 Gregor Mendel (1822-1884) ile \u00e7a\u011fda\u015f oldu\u011fu halde kurgulad\u0131\u011f\u0131 biyolojik evrim kuram\u0131na onun d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcncelerini katmad\u0131. Ya Mendel\u2019in \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131ndan habersizdi ya da geneti\u011fin ifade etti\u011fi anlam\u0131 alg\u0131layamam\u0131\u015ft\u0131. Ancak \u015fu da bir ger\u00e7ek ki, Mendel 1860\u2019lar\u0131n ba\u015flar\u0131nda genetik \u00fczerine yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n sonu\u00e7lar\u0131n\u0131 a\u015fa\u011f\u0131 yukar\u0131 20 y\u0131l bekledikten sonra 1880\u2019de bilim d\u00fcnyas\u0131na a\u00e7\u0131klad\u0131. Darwin ise bu tarihlerde art\u0131k ya\u015fam\u0131n\u0131n sonuna gelmi\u015fti, bilim d\u00fcnyas\u0131ndaki son geli\u015fmelerle ilgilenecek durumda de\u011fildi. Ancak, bu eksiklik Darwin\u2019in kurgulad\u0131\u011f\u0131 do\u011fal ay\u0131klanma kuram\u0131n\u0131n ge\u00e7erlili\u011fini etkilemedi; \u00e7\u00fcnk\u00fc evrimin i\u015flemesi i\u00e7in do\u011fal ay\u0131klanmaya tabi olan biyolojik \u00f6zelliklerin bir sonraki ku\u015fa\u011fa ge\u00e7mesi yeterliydi. Darwin zaten bu de\u011fi\u015fimi do\u011fada g\u00f6zlemlemi\u015fti, ancak i\u015fleyi\u015f mekanizmas\u0131n\u0131 genetik\u00e7ilerin diliyle ifade etmekten uzakt\u0131.
