Dereli ile CERN\u2019deki deneylerin sonu\u00e7lar\u0131, Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131n kozmoloji modelleri a\u00e7\u0131s\u0131ndan \u00f6nemi ve deneylerin gelece\u011fi \u00fczerine konu\u015ftuk.<br \/>\n<strong><em>CERN\u2019deki deneylerde bulunan bir Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131 d\u00fcnyay\u0131 aya\u011fa kald\u0131rd\u0131. Nedir bu heyecan\u0131n sebebi?<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>olu\u015fturan par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131 ve bunlar\u0131n aras\u0131ndaki etkile\u015fmeleri tarif eden bir model olarak 1960\u2019larda bir \u201cStandard Teori\u201d \u00f6ne s\u00fcr\u00fcld\u00fc. Bu standard teorinin \u00f6ng\u00f6rd\u00fc\u011f\u00fc t\u00fcm temel par\u00e7ac\u0131klar biliniyor, tek Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131 g\u00f6zlemlenemeden kalm\u0131\u015ft\u0131. Bu nedenle CERN\u2019den gelen haberler b\u00fcy\u00fck ilgi topluyor. \u015eu an heyecan dorukta ama biz fizik\u00e7iler bulu\u015fu daha so\u011fukkanl\u0131 de\u011ferlendirmek durumunday\u0131z. 15-20 sene \u00f6nce kimse bu sonu\u00e7larla \u201cYeni bir par\u00e7ac\u0131k ke\u015ffedildi\u201d diye hemen ortaya \u00e7\u0131kmazd\u0131. Nitekim CERN\u2019in bas\u0131n duyurusunda \u201cK\u00fctlesi 125 GeV olan bir par\u00e7ac\u0131k g\u00f6zlendi ama bunun Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131 oldu\u011funu kesin kan\u0131tlamak i\u00e7in daha fazla veriye ve zamana ihtiyac\u0131m\u0131z var\u201d dendi.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>O halde bize CERN\u2019de neler oldu\u011fundan s\u00f6z eder misiniz?<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>CERN \u0130svi\u00e7re\u2019nin Cenevre kentinde bulunan Avrupa N\u00fckleer Ara\u015ft\u0131rma Merkezi. Birisi saat y\u00f6n\u00fcnde, di\u011feri saat y\u00f6n\u00fcn\u00fcn tersinde h\u0131zlanan iki proton huzmesi detekt\u00f6rlerin (al\u0131c\u0131lar\u0131n) bulundu\u011fu d\u00f6rt noktada \u00e7arp\u0131\u015ft\u0131r\u0131labiliyorlar. Her \u00e7arp\u0131\u015fma noktas\u0131nda ma\u011fara gibi derin birer tespit b\u00f6lgesi var. Halen bu d\u00f6rt b\u00f6lgeden birisi CMS deneyi i\u00e7in, di\u011feri de ATLAS deneyi i\u00e7in kullan\u0131lmakta. Bunlar birbirinden ba\u011f\u0131ms\u0131z y\u00fcr\u00fct\u00fclen deneyler. \u0130\u00e7lerinde T\u00fcrkiye\u2019den kat\u0131lan gruplar da var.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>T\u00fcrkiye\u2019den kimler kat\u0131l\u0131yor?<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i \u00dcniversitesi, Orta Do\u011fu Teknik \u00dcniversitesi ve \u00c7ukurova \u00dcniversite\u2019sinden ekipler kat\u0131l\u0131yor. Di\u011fer \u00fcniversitelerden de bireysel kat\u0131l\u0131mlar var.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Protonlar\u0131 \u00e7arp\u0131\u015ft\u0131rmak i\u00e7in \u00e7ok b\u00fcy\u00fck enerji veriliyor. Bu kadar b\u00fcy\u00fck enerjiye neden ihtiya\u00e7 var?<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>Hepimiz biliriz; art\u0131 elektrik y\u00fckler art\u0131 elektrik y\u00fckleri iter, eksi elektrik y\u00fckleri \u00e7eker. Protonlar art\u0131 elektrik y\u00fckl\u00fcd\u00fcr. \u0130ki protonu d\u00fc\u015f\u00fck enerjide \u00e7arp\u0131\u015ft\u0131r\u0131rsak, yani k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck bir h\u0131zla birisini di\u011feri \u00fczerine yollarsak, birbirlerini iter ve \u00e7ok yak\u0131nla\u015famazlar. Oysa biz olabildi\u011fince yak\u0131nla\u015fmalar\u0131n\u0131, hatta protonlar\u0131n da\u011f\u0131l\u0131p i\u00e7indekilerin ortal\u0131\u011fa sa\u00e7\u0131lmas\u0131n\u0131 istiyoruz. Y\u00fcksek enerjilere \u00e7\u0131k\u0131lmas\u0131n\u0131n nedeni bu. LHC\u2019de d\u00f6nen protonlar\u0131n kinetik enerjileri 7 TeV\u2019e kadar ula\u015fabiliyor. Bir protonun k\u00fctlesini \u0131\u015f\u0131k h\u0131z\u0131n\u0131n karesiyle \u00e7arparsan\u0131z (mc<sup>2<\/sup>) Einstein ba\u011f\u0131nt\u0131s\u0131na g\u00f6re protonun durgun enerjisi bulunur. Kulland\u0131\u011f\u0131m\u0131z enerji birimi hakk\u0131nda fikir vermek i\u00e7in protonun durgun enerjisinin yakla\u015f\u0131k 1 GeV oldu\u011funu belirteyim. Protonun kinetik enerjisinin 7 TeV\u2019e ula\u015fmas\u0131 bunun 7000 kat\u0131na denk geliyor. B\u00f6yle \u00e7ok y\u00fcksek enerjili, neredeyse \u0131\u015f\u0131k h\u0131z\u0131na yak\u0131n h\u0131zlara ula\u015fm\u0131\u015f iki proton kafa kafaya \u00e7arp\u0131\u015ft\u0131klar\u0131nda sanki duran protona 14 TeV enerjili bir proton \u00e7arpm\u0131\u015f gibi oluyor.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00c7arp\u0131\u015fma sonras\u0131nda ne oluyor?<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>Y\u00fcksek enerjili iki protonun \u00e7arp\u0131\u015fmas\u0131 sonras\u0131nda her t\u00fcrl\u00fc temel par\u00e7ac\u0131k ortaya sa\u00e7\u0131l\u0131yor. Hassas detekt\u00f6rler \u00e7\u0131kan par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131n izlerini kaydediyor. Veriler daha sonra analiz edilmek \u00fczere dijital olarak saklan\u0131yorlar.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Bu \u00e7arp\u0131\u015fmalar nas\u0131l g\u00f6zlemleniyorlar?<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>\u0130\u015fin bu k\u0131sm\u0131nda at\u0131lan iki ad\u0131m \u00e7ok \u00f6nemli: Birinci ad\u0131m, \u00e7arp\u0131\u015fma b\u00f6lgesinden \u00e7\u0131kan par\u00e7ac\u0131k izlerinin 3-boyutlu g\u00f6r\u00fcnt\u00fclerini bilgisayarda olu\u015fturmak. Bu bilgiyi kullanarak \u00e7izilen bol renkli ve hatta hareketlendirilmi\u015f \u00e7arp\u0131\u015fma resimlerini ekranlarda ve dergilerde bolca g\u00f6rmekteyiz. \u0130kinci ad\u0131m ise sim\u00fclasyon olu\u015fturmak. Standard Teori\u2019nin \u00f6ng\u00f6rd\u00fc\u011f\u00fc, proton-proton \u00e7arp\u0131\u015fmas\u0131 sonras\u0131 elde edilebilecek t\u00fcm olas\u0131 \u00e7arp\u0131\u015fmalar resimlendiriliyor. Sonras\u0131nda bilgisayarlarda olu\u015fturulan resimler ile say\u0131s\u0131 trilyonlara ula\u015fm\u0131\u015f ger\u00e7ek \u00e7arp\u0131\u015fma resimleri kar\u015f\u0131la\u015ft\u0131r\u0131l\u0131yor. \u0130\u015fe yarayacak olanlar ayr\u0131ca incelenmek \u00fczere ay\u0131klan\u0131yor.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>20 milyon CD-ROM\u2019u dolduracak kadar veri al\u0131nd\u0131\u011f\u0131 s\u00f6yleniyor. Bu kadar b\u00fcy\u00fck miktarda veriyle nas\u0131l i\u015f yap\u0131l\u0131yor?<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>\u0130\u015flenecek veri miktar\u0131 \u00e7ok b\u00fcy\u00fck tabii. \u0130lk kar\u015f\u0131la\u015ft\u0131rmalar bizim kulland\u0131klar\u0131m\u0131zdan \u00e7ok daha h\u0131zl\u0131 bilgisayarlarla otomatik yap\u0131l\u0131yor. Bulunan uyumlu g\u00f6r\u00fcnt\u00fcler, art\u0131k tek tek incelenebilecek kadar az say\u0131da oluyor. Bunlardan grafikler \u00e7iziliyor, istatistik \u00e7\u0131kar\u0131l\u0131yor. Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 bulmak i\u00e7in trilyonlarca proton \u00e7arp\u0131\u015ft\u0131r\u0131lm\u0131\u015f. Neden h\u00e2l\u00e2 yeterli veri yok? \u00c7\u00fcnk\u00fc Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131n dahil olabilece\u011fi \u00e7arp\u0131\u015fma s\u00fcre\u00e7leri \u00e7ok ender g\u00f6r\u00fclen t\u00fcrden. Deneylerde Higgs aramak i\u00e7in di\u011ferlerinden ayr\u0131larak incelenen s\u00fcre\u00e7lerin say\u0131s\u0131 sadece 100\u2019ler mertebesinde. Bu kadar veriyle elde edilen grafikler teorideki kadar keskin de\u011fil. Grafikleri inceleyenlerin istatistiksel bak\u0131mdan emin olabilmeleri i\u00e7in daha \u00e7ok veriye ihtiya\u00e7lar\u0131 var. Teorilerimiz \u00e7\u00f6ker mi?<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>Bir \u015fey olmaz! Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131 Standard Teori\u2019nin di\u011fer temel par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131na k\u00fctle kazand\u0131r\u0131m\u0131 sa\u011flayan \u00f6nemli bir \u00f6\u011fesi, ama yaln\u0131zca bir \u00f6\u011fesi. Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131n g\u00f6zlemlenememesi bizi teorinin do\u011frulu\u011fundan ku\u015fkuya d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcrmeyecekti. Zaten Higgs\u2019in bulunmamas\u0131 da en az bulunmas\u0131 kadar \u00f6nem ta\u015f\u0131yacakt\u0131. E\u011fer Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131n yoklu\u011fu kan\u0131tlansayd\u0131 Standard Teori\u2019nin yanl\u0131\u015f oldu\u011funu de\u011fil, yanl\u0131\u015f yorumland\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcrd\u00fcm. K\u00fctle kazand\u0131r\u0131m mekanizmas\u0131n\u0131 ba\u015ftan ele al\u0131p Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131na gerek olmayacak \u015fekilde yeniden kurgulamaya \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131rd\u0131m. Bunun d\u0131\u015f\u0131nda Standard Teori aynen kal\u0131rd\u0131.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011fa neden Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131 veya Higgs bozonu ad\u0131 verildi?<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131n varl\u0131\u011f\u0131, Standard Teori\u2019de temel par\u00e7ac\u0131klara g\u00f6zlenen k\u00fctle de\u011ferlerini kazand\u0131rmak \u00fczere di\u011ferlerinden farkl\u0131 nitelikte bir par\u00e7ac\u0131k bulunmas\u0131 gerekti\u011fi i\u00e7in \u00f6ne s\u00fcr\u00fcld\u00fc. Bu fikir ilk kez, Edinburgh \u00dcniversitesi\u2019nin emekli profes\u00f6rlerinden Peter Higgs taraf\u0131ndan 1964\u2019te <em>Physical Review Letters<\/em>\u2019ta yay\u0131nlanan bir makalede tart\u0131\u015f\u0131lm\u0131\u015ft\u0131. Fakat ayn\u0131 derginin ayn\u0131 cildinde \u00e7\u0131km\u0131\u015f iki makale daha var. Bu benim ba\u015f\u0131ma da bir ka\u00e7 kez geldi. Bundan \u00f6te bir anlam\u0131 yok.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131n B\u00fcy\u00fck Patlama ile ilgisi nedir?<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>G\u00fcn\u00fcm\u00fczde bir ba\u015fka \u201cStandard Teori\u201d de kozmolojide var. Evrendeki maddenin \u00e7ok yo\u011fun, tek bir noktada toplanm\u0131\u015f bir halden genle\u015ferek g\u00fcn\u00fcm\u00fczdeki haline geldi\u011fini d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnmekteyiz. Genle\u015fmenin h\u0131z\u0131 ivmelenerek art\u0131yor. Bunu sa\u011flayan bir enerji gerek, fakat bu enerjinin kayna\u011f\u0131n\u0131 bilinen, g\u00f6zledi\u011fimiz madde t\u00fcrleri aras\u0131nda bulam\u0131yoruz. Bilinmeyen anlam\u0131nda bir \u201ckaranl\u0131k enerji\u201d t\u00fcr\u00fc veya ba\u015fka bir deyi\u015fle kozmolojik sabit bulunmal\u0131d\u0131r diyoruz. Bu sabitin bildi\u011fimiz Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131ndan kaynaklanmas\u0131 akla yak\u0131n bir ihtimal gibi geliyor. B\u00f6ylece karanl\u0131k enerjiyi sa\u011flayan kozmolojik sabit, Standard Teori\u2019de k\u00fctle kazand\u0131r\u0131m mekanizmas\u0131n\u0131 tetikleyen Higgs bozonuyla ili\u015fkilendirilmi\u015f oluyor. Higgs par\u00e7ac\u0131\u011f\u0131 kozmoloji modelleri i\u00e7in \u00f6nemlidir sonucuna ula\u015ft\u0131k fakat bu k\u0131sa s\u00f6yle\u015fide daha ayr\u0131nt\u0131ya girmem m\u00fcmk\u00fcn de\u011fil.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>LHC deneylerinin sonu\u00e7lar\u0131n\u0131 teknolojiye uygulad\u0131\u011f\u0131m\u0131zda nelerle kar\u015f\u0131la\u015fabiliriz? Hangi alanlarda kullan\u0131labilir?<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>CERN laboratuvarlar\u0131 bilimin teknolojik uygulamalar\u0131n\u0131 bulmak i\u00e7in de\u011fil, temel ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar yapmak amac\u0131yla kurulmu\u015ftur. Bug\u00fcn d\u00fcnyan\u0131n en b\u00fcy\u00fck par\u00e7ac\u0131k h\u0131zland\u0131r\u0131c\u0131lar\u0131n\u0131 ve \u00e7arp\u0131\u015ft\u0131r\u0131c\u0131lar\u0131n\u0131 bar\u0131nd\u0131rmaktad\u0131r. Bunlardan daha b\u00fcy\u00fcklerinin yak\u0131n gelecekte in\u015fa edilebileceklerini tahmin etmiyoruz. D\u00fcnyadaki mevcut daha d\u00fc\u015f\u00fck kapasiteli h\u0131zland\u0131r\u0131c\u0131lar\u0131n pek \u00e7o\u011fu ise yak\u0131n zamanlarda t\u0131p ve m\u00fchendislik uygulamalar\u0131na y\u00f6nelik yeniden yap\u0131land\u0131r\u0131lmaya ba\u015fland\u0131. Uygulamalara birer \u00f6rnek vermek gerekirse, bilirsiniz k\u0131saca NMR denilen n\u00fckleer magnetik rezonans ile tomografi art\u0131k hastanelerde \u00e7ok yayg\u0131n kullan\u0131lmakta. Bundan \u00e7ok daha hassas bir y\u00f6ntem olan pozitron emisyon tomografisi veya k\u0131saca PET ile de v\u00fccut dokular\u0131na bak\u0131labiliyor. Pozitronlar, yani anti-elektronlar \u00e7arp\u0131\u015ft\u0131r\u0131c\u0131larda elde edilip PET taramas\u0131 i\u00e7in y\u00f6nlendirilir. End\u00fcstriyel bir \u00f6rnek olarak ise sinkrotron \u0131\u015f\u0131mas\u0131 ile malzemelerin tahribats\u0131z kalite kontrol\u00fcnden s\u00f6z edilebilir. Pratikte bunlara benzer ve daha ba\u015fka hangi h\u0131zland\u0131r\u0131c\u0131 uygulamalar\u0131n\u0131n bulunaca\u011f\u0131n\u0131 zaman i\u00e7inde g\u00f6rece\u011fiz.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00c7ok h\u0131zl\u0131 bilgisayarlar kullan\u0131l\u0131yor demi\u015ftiniz.
