Bu s\u00f6z\u00fcn s\u0131n\u0131rlar\u0131n\u0131 kavramak, herkesin ya\u015fad\u0131\u011f\u0131 yere g\u00f6re, kendi zaman cetvelinde farkl\u0131 noktalara d\u00fc\u015fer. Hepimizin ya\u015fad\u0131\u011f\u0131 co\u011frafyaya g\u00f6re erken ya da di\u011ferlerine g\u00f6re daha ge\u00e7 fark etti\u011fimiz kaderimizdir bu. M\u0131s\u0131r, binlerce y\u0131ll\u0131k medeniyetin be\u015fi\u011fi olmas\u0131n\u0131n getirdi\u011fi sosyal ve k\u00fclt\u00fcrel birikimi bir yana b\u0131rak\u0131rsak yakla\u015f\u0131k yetmi\u015f y\u0131ll\u0131k cumhuriyetin getirdi\u011fi siyasi hareketlilik nedeniyle toplumun \u00e7alkant\u0131l\u0131 devinimiyle ya\u015fayan \u00fclkelerden biri. Kapitalizme a\u00e7\u0131lan kap\u0131lar\u0131n toplumun ya\u015fay\u0131\u015f\u0131n\u0131 k\u00f6kten de\u011fi\u015ftirdi\u011fi Enver Sedat y\u00f6netiminin son g\u00fcnlerinde ge\u00e7en roman d\u00f6nemin sosyal ve ekonomik durumunu g\u00f6zler \u00f6n\u00fcne seriyor. \u00d6mr\u00fcn\u00fcn son demlerinde oldu\u011funu d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnen Muhte\u015fim Seyid, eski g\u00fcnleri hat\u0131rlarken kaybetti\u011fi e\u015fini, arkada\u015flar\u0131n\u0131, o ge\u00e7mi\u015f g\u00fcnlerin panoramas\u0131n\u0131 az \u00e7ok fark ediyoruz. Bir taraftan zaman\u0131n ge\u00e7mesiyle toplumsal alanda Seyid\u2019in giderek yok oldu\u011funu\u00a0 okurken her \u015feye ra\u011fmen hayata tutunmak, ya\u015famak ve mutlu olmak istedi\u011fini de g\u00f6r\u00fcyoruz. \u0130nsan her zaman insan, ya\u015famak g\u00fczel \u015fey! Seyid ge\u00e7im s\u0131k\u0131nt\u0131 i\u00e7indeki ailesi o\u011flu, gelini ve torunu ile ya\u015famaktad\u0131r. Hepsinin birer gelirinin olmas\u0131 bile refah seviyelerini art\u0131rmaya yetmez, k\u0131t kanaat ge\u00e7inirler. D\u00fczen h\u0131zla de\u011fi\u015fmekte ve aile bu de\u011fi\u015fimin i\u00e7inde ya\u015fam\u0131n\u0131 s\u00fcrd\u00fcrmeye \u00e7abalamaktad\u0131r.<br \/>\nSeyid\u2019in torunu Elvan Favaz Muhte\u015fim, \u00e7ocuklu\u011fundan beri kom\u015fular\u0131n\u0131n k\u0131z\u0131 Randa S\u00fcleyman M\u00fcbarek\u2019e \u00e2\u015f\u0131kt\u0131r. Bu a\u015fk\u0131n kar\u015f\u0131l\u0131\u011f\u0131 da vard\u0131r ancak y\u0131llardan beri s\u00fcren ni\u015fanl\u0131l\u0131k, aileleri tedirgin etmektedir. Ayn\u0131 ofiste \u00e7al\u0131\u015fan iki \u00e2\u015f\u0131k y\u00f6neticilerinin, \u00e7evrelerinin ve ailelerinin zaman\u0131n ge\u00e7i\u015fine dair ima ve s\u00f6ylemlerinden bunalm\u0131\u015f vaziyette a\u015fklar\u0131n\u0131 korumaya \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131rlar. Ancak ge\u00e7im s\u0131k\u0131nt\u0131s\u0131 zaman i\u00e7inde Elvan\u2019\u0131 eski d\u00f6nem T\u00fcrk filmlerinde g\u00f6rd\u00fc\u011f\u00fcm\u00fcz fedak\u00e2r \u00e2\u015f\u0131klar gibi davranmaya iter. Ger\u00e7i bizim filmlerimizde fedak\u00e2rl\u0131\u011f\u0131 yapan genelde kad\u0131nd\u0131r ve zaten fakir olan da kad\u0131nd\u0131r ya, bu ayr\u0131 bir yaz\u0131 konusu olacak kadar derin mevzu. Elvan ve Randa\u2019n\u0131n ayr\u0131l\u0131\u011f\u0131 aileleri bir nebze olsun ferahlatsa da mevcut ko\u015fullar h\u00e2l\u00e2 hayatlar\u0131n\u0131 zorla\u015ft\u0131rmakta, Elvan bir yandan ayr\u0131l\u0131k ac\u0131s\u0131yla k\u0131vran\u0131rken \u00f6te yandan etrafta olan biteni takip ederek \u00fclkenin gidi\u015fat\u0131n\u0131 d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnmektedir. Ayr\u0131l\u0131klar\u0131n\u0131n ard\u0131ndan Elvan\u2019\u0131n a\u011fz\u0131ndan \u015f\u00f6yle yazar Mahfuz: \u201cB\u00fcrodakiler \u00f6\u011frendi, en az\u0131ndan y\u00fczeysel bir kasvet \u00e7\u00f6kt\u00fc ortal\u0131\u011fa. Hi\u00e7 kimse yorumda bulunmad\u0131. T\u00fckeni\u015fimiz sevindirdi onlar\u0131, \u00e7\u00fcnk\u00fc mutsuz insanlar kendilerine benzeyenlerde teselli bulurlar.\u201d Bu s\u00f6zler kimimizin zaman zaman yan\u0131 ba\u015f\u0131nda duran insanlar\u0131 tan\u0131mlam\u0131yor mu? Hayatlar\u0131 zorluklarla yo\u011frulan kimi insanlarda kendilerine benzeyenleri sevme, mazlumla duyguda\u015fl\u0131k a\u015fina oldu\u011fumuz durumlardand\u0131r. Ama baz\u0131s\u0131 da ba\u015fkas\u0131n\u0131n ac\u0131s\u0131ndan, \u00fcz\u00fcnt\u00fcs\u00fcnden beslenir, b\u00f6ylece iyi hisseder kendini. Necib Mahfuz i\u015fte birka\u00e7 c\u00fcmlede bize bu insanlar\u0131 anlat\u0131r yukar\u0131daki ifadesiyle. \u00c7ok ge\u00e7meden ayr\u0131lan \u00e7iftin etraf\u0131nda beliren yeni izdiva\u00e7 ihtimalleri her ikisini de kendi i\u00e7lerinde hem duygular\u0131 hem de ahlaki de\u011ferleri a\u00e7\u0131s\u0131ndan ikilemde b\u0131rak\u0131r. Randa\u2019n\u0131n evlili\u011fi Elvan\u2019\u0131 yaralarken \u00fclkesinde olan bitenleri daha \u00e7ok d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnmeye ba\u015flar. \u00d6te yandan kendinden ya\u015f\u00e7a b\u00fcy\u00fck bir kad\u0131nla evlilik ihtimali o g\u00fcne kadar direndi\u011fi ilkelerini de sorgulamas\u0131na sebep olmaktad\u0131r. Elvan kendi ki\u015fisel karma\u015fas\u0131n\u0131n i\u00e7inde ayakta kalmaya \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131rken \u00f6nce ald\u0131\u011f\u0131 bir haber, ard\u0131ndan da Ba\u015fkan\u2019\u0131n u\u011frad\u0131\u011f\u0131 suikastla t\u00fcm hayat\u0131n\u0131n ak\u0131\u015f\u0131- n\u0131 de\u011fi\u015ftirecek bir olaya kar\u0131\u015f\u0131r. Belki Elvan\u2019\u0131n verdi\u011fi ani kararlar ki\u015fili\u011fi hakk\u0131nda baz\u0131 sorgulamalar do\u011fursa da roman\u0131n sonunda karakterin yine de tutarl\u0131l\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 korudu\u011funu s\u00f6ylemek m\u00fcmk\u00fcn.<br \/>\nNecib Mahfuz\u2019un dede, torun ve ni\u015fanl\u0131s\u0131 \u00fczerinden anlatt\u0131\u011f\u0131 bu k\u0131sa roman, ailenin \u00e7evresindeki insanlar\u0131 da d\u00e2hil ederek d\u00f6nemin toplumsal yap\u0131s\u0131n\u0131, M\u0131s\u0131r\u2019\u0131n i\u00e7inde bulundu\u011fu de\u011fi\u015fim d\u00f6nemini de hik\u00e2yesinin i\u00e7inde bar\u0131nd\u0131r\u0131yor. Enver Sedat\u2019\u0131n M\u0131s\u0131r\u2019\u0131 y\u00f6netti\u011fi 10 y\u0131ll\u0131k s\u00fcrede infitah politikas\u0131n\u0131 benimsemesiyle \u00fclkenin toplumsal ve ekonomik dengelerinin de\u011fi\u015fmesi, serbest piyasa ekonomisine ge\u00e7i\u015f, ekonomik istikrars\u0131zl\u0131k ve dizginlenemeyen enflasyon orta s\u0131n\u0131f\u0131n \u00a0fakirle\u015fmesine sebep olur.
