Bu molek\u00fcllerin \u00e7o\u011fu karbondioksitin \u00e7e\u015fitli reaksiyonlar yoluyla indirgenmesiyle olu\u015fur. Bitkilerdeki fotosentez reaksiyonu bu duruma bir \u00f6rnektir. Ancak bu yollar\u0131n \u00e7o\u011funun i\u015f g\u00f6rebilmesi i\u00e7in h\u00fccrelerden gelen enerjiye gerek duyuluyor. Baz\u0131lar\u0131 ise g\u00f6rece daha ge\u00e7 bir evrimsel s\u00fcre\u00e7te ortaya \u00e7\u0131km\u0131\u015f durumda.
