S\u00f6z konusu atlas, <em>S. mansoni<\/em> solucan\u0131n\u0131n biyolojisinin daha iyi anla\u015f\u0131lmas\u0131, yeni a\u015f\u0131lar ve tedaviler i\u00e7in ara\u015ft\u0131rma yap\u0131lmas\u0131n\u0131 sa\u011flayacak bir k\u0131lavuz niteli\u011findedir. <em>S. mansoni<\/em> parazitinin larva formlar\u0131n\u0131n nehirlere ve g\u00f6llere kar\u0131\u015fmas\u0131yla ba\u015flayan ya\u015fam d\u00f6ng\u00fcs\u00fc larvalar\u0131n su kullan\u0131m\u0131 yoluyla insanlara ta\u015f\u0131nmas\u0131yla birlikte insan v\u00fccudunda devam eder. \u0130nsan v\u00fccudunda, solucan\u0131n ya\u015fam d\u00f6ng\u00fcs\u00fcn\u00fcn memeli i\u00e7i a\u015famas\u0131 olarak bilinen a\u015famas\u0131 ba\u015flar.<\/p>\n<p>Yeti\u015fkin solucanlar insanlar\u0131n kan damarlar\u0131nda ya\u015far ve burada \u00e7o\u011fal\u0131r. Ya\u015fam d\u00f6ng\u00fcs\u00fcn\u00fcn devam edebilmesi i\u00e7in solucanlar\u0131n serbest b\u0131rakt\u0131\u011f\u0131 yumurtalar bu sefer de insanlar\u0131n v\u00fccut at\u0131klar\u0131 yoluyla suya ta\u015f\u0131n\u0131r. Ancak baz\u0131 yumurtalar insan v\u00fccudu i\u00e7inde kal\u0131r ve bu da \u015fistozomiyaz olarak bilinen hastal\u0131\u011fa yol a\u00e7ar. \u015eistozomiyaz organlarda hasara ve \u00f6l\u00fcme neden olabilen uzun vadeli bir hastal\u0131kt\u0131r. Afrika toplumlar\u0131 ba\u015fta olmak \u00fczere d\u00fcnya \u00fczerinde milyonlarca insan\u0131 etkileyen bu hastal\u0131k D\u00fcnya Sa\u011fl\u0131k \u00d6rg\u00fct\u00fc taraf\u0131ndan en \u00e7ok ihmal edilen tropikal hastal\u0131klar grubunda de\u011ferlendiriyor. Hastal\u0131\u011f\u0131n tedavisinde kullan\u0131lan bir ila\u00e7 mevcut olmakla birlikte, bu ila\u00e7 k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck \u00e7ocuklarda kullan\u0131m i\u00e7in uygun de\u011fildir. Tek bir ilaca ba\u011fl\u0131 tedavinin parazitlerin ilaca kar\u015f\u0131 diren\u00e7 geli\u015ftirme s\u00fcrecini h\u0131zland\u0131rabilece\u011fine y\u00f6nelik endi\u015feler, hastal\u0131\u011f\u0131n ve hastal\u0131\u011fa neden olan solucan\u0131n mekanizmalar\u0131na y\u00f6nelik \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n artmas\u0131na yol a\u00e7t\u0131.<\/p>\n<p>Ara\u015ft\u0131rmac\u0131lar yeni ila\u00e7lar bulmak i\u00e7in \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131yorlard\u0131 ancak \u015fimdiye kadar parazitin biyolojisine dair b\u00fct\u00fcnl\u00fckl\u00fc bir bilgi birikimi yoktu. Yeni \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmada biliminsanlar\u0131, bir organizmada veya dokuda bulunan farkl\u0131 h\u00fccre tiplerini tan\u0131mlayan h\u00fccre teknolojisini kullanarak parazitin memeli i\u00e7i a\u015famas\u0131ndaki t\u00fcm h\u00fccre tiplerini haritaland\u0131rmay\u0131 hedefledi.<\/p>\n<p>Genetik tabanl\u0131 teknolojilerin kullan\u0131lmas\u0131yla ara\u015ft\u0131rmac\u0131lar daha \u00f6nce bilinmeyen h\u00fccre tiplerini de i\u00e7eren 13 farkl\u0131 h\u00fccre tipini belirledi. Yeni ila\u00e7lar belirlenirken ara\u015ft\u0131rmac\u0131lar genellikle patojen ile konak\u00e7\u0131 t\u00fcrler aras\u0131ndaki farkl\u0131l\u0131klara bakar. Ancak <em>S. mansoni<\/em>\u2019nin genetik yap\u0131s\u0131 ile genetik yap\u0131m\u0131z aras\u0131ndaki benzerlik bu durumu zorla\u015ft\u0131rmakta.
