Baz\u0131 insanlar Betelgeuse\u2019\u00fcn dolunay\u0131 bile g\u00f6lgede b\u0131rakacak parlakl\u0131kta bir s\u00fcpernova patlamas\u0131 ge\u00e7irmek \u00fczere oldu\u011funu ileri s\u00fcrd\u00fc. Astronomlar ya\u015fl\u0131 y\u0131ld\u0131z\u0131n g\u00fcnlerinin say\u0131l\u0131 oldu\u011funu uzun zamand\u0131r biliyordu, ancak Montarg\u00e8s bu kayba hen\u00fcz haz\u0131r de\u011fildi, en sevdi\u011fi y\u0131ld\u0131z\u0131n &#8220;\u00f6lmesini&#8221; istemiyordu.<\/p>\n<p>Tabii \u00e7o\u011fu ara\u015ft\u0131rmac\u0131 i\u00e7in durum farkl\u0131yd\u0131, onlar Betelgeuse\u2019\u00fcn patlamas\u0131n\u0131 ger\u00e7ek zamanl\u0131 olarak izlemek konusunda olduk\u00e7a hevesliydiler.<\/p>\n<p><strong>S\u00fcpernovalar<\/strong><br \/>\nS\u00fcpernovalar G\u00fcne\u015f\u2019ten en az sekiz kat daha k\u00fctleli y\u0131ld\u0131zlar\u0131n \u015fiddetli \u00f6l\u00fcmlerinin i\u015faret\u00e7isidir. Ancak astronomlar da\u011f\u0131lmak \u00fczere olan bir y\u0131ld\u0131z\u0131n nas\u0131l bir sinyal verdi\u011fi bilgisine hala sahip de\u011filler. Patlayan y\u0131ld\u0131zlar gezegenleri ve insanlar\u0131 (ve daha pek \u00e7ok \u015feyi) meydana getiren elementlerin (\u00f6rne\u011fin karbon, oksijen ve demir) \u00e7o\u011funlu\u011funu y\u0131ld\u0131zlararas\u0131 uzaya serpi\u015ftirir. Betelgeuse, her an s\u00fcpernova patlamas\u0131 ge\u00e7irebilecek, ya\u015f\u0131 ileri ve b\u00fcy\u00fck k\u00fctleli \u2013\u201ck\u0131rm\u0131z\u0131 s\u00fcper dev\u201d evresindeki\u2013 pek \u00e7ok y\u0131ld\u0131zdan sadece biri. Takip eden aylarda y\u0131ld\u0131z al\u0131\u015f\u0131ld\u0131k parlakl\u0131\u011f\u0131na geri d\u00f6nd\u00fc ve eli kula\u011f\u0131nda s\u00fcpernovaya kar\u015f\u0131 ilgi de b\u00f6ylece s\u00f6nmeye y\u00fcz tuttu. Yine de neler oldu\u011funu anlamak i\u00e7in aceleyle toplanan veri y\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131, uzun zamand\u0131r varl\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 s\u00fcrd\u00fcren sorunun cevab\u0131n\u0131 bulmaya yard\u0131m edebilir; b\u00fcy\u00fck k\u00fctleli, ya\u015fl\u0131 y\u0131ld\u0131zlar hen\u00fcz patlamadan \u00f6nce gezegenlerin yap\u0131ta\u015f\u0131 olan &#8220;y\u0131ld\u0131z tozu&#8221;nu uzaya nas\u0131l yayarlar?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Orion\u2019un omzu<\/strong><br \/>\nE\u011fer k\u0131\u015f\u0131n Kuzey Yar\u0131m K\u00fcre&#8217;den g\u00f6ky\u00fcz\u00fcne bakt\u0131ysan\u0131z, \u2013o oldu\u011funu fark etmemi\u015f olsan\u0131z dahi\u2013 muhtemelen Betelgeuse\u2019\u00fc g\u00f6rm\u00fc\u015fs\u00fcn\u00fczd\u00fcr. Bu konveksiyon d\u00f6ng\u00fcs\u00fc Betelgeuse \u00fczerinde yar\u0131 d\u00fczenli \u015fekilde \u00e7al\u0131\u015fan (yakla\u015f\u0131k 400 g\u00fcnl\u00fck bir periyotta sal\u0131n\u0131m g\u00f6steren) bir karartma anahtar\u0131 i\u015flevi g\u00f6r\u00fcr. Ayr\u0131ca nedeni hen\u00fcz bilinmese de, y\u0131ld\u0131z\u0131n parlakl\u0131\u011f\u0131 alt\u0131 y\u0131ll\u0131k periyotlarla da de\u011fi\u015fim g\u00f6sterir.<\/p>\n<p>Betelgeuse ile ilgili kesin olarak bilinen \u015fey, zaman\u0131n\u0131n dolmak \u00fczere oldu\u011fudur. Neredeyse 10 milyon y\u0131l ya\u015f\u0131ndad\u0131r; G\u00fcne\u015fimizin 4.6 milyar y\u0131l ya\u015f\u0131nda oldu\u011fu d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcl\u00fcrse gen\u00e7 say\u0131l\u0131r. Ancak Betelgeuse \u00e7ok b\u00fcy\u00fck bir k\u00fctleye sahip olmas\u0131 dolay\u0131s\u0131yla yak\u0131t\u0131n\u0131 \u00e7ok h\u0131zl\u0131 bir \u015fekilde t\u00fcketti\u011finden, bir k\u0131rm\u0131z\u0131 s\u00fcper dev olarak ya\u015fam\u0131n\u0131n son a\u015famas\u0131na ula\u015fm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. \u00c7ok uzak olmayan bir gelecekte, y\u0131ld\u0131z kendi a\u011f\u0131rl\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 ta\u015f\u0131may\u0131 s\u00fcrd\u00fcremeyecek ve kendi i\u00e7ine \u00e7\u00f6kerek s\u00fcpernova patlamas\u0131 ge\u00e7irecektir. Bunun ne zaman olaca\u011f\u0131n\u0131 kestirmek zor, \u00e7\u00fcnk\u00fc astronomik zaman zarf\u0131nda yak\u0131n gelecek, 200.000 y\u0131ll\u0131k bir s\u00fcreye kar\u015f\u0131l\u0131k gelmektedir.<\/p>\n<p>Ekim 2019\u2019da Betelgeuse\u2019\u00fcn parlakl\u0131\u011f\u0131 azalmaya ba\u015flad\u0131 ki bu, kendi ba\u015f\u0131na garipsenecek bir durum de\u011fildi. Betelgeuse\u2019\u00fcn parlakl\u0131k d\u00f6ng\u00fclerini 1980\u2019lerden beri izleyen astronom Edward Guinan (Pensilvanya\u2019daki Villanova \u00dcniversitesi&#8217;nde ara\u015ft\u0131rmac\u0131) parlakl\u0131ktaki de\u011fi\u015fimin normal 400 g\u00fcnl\u00fck d\u00f6ng\u00fclerde kar\u015f\u0131la\u015f\u0131lana uydu\u011funu belirtiyor. Ancak y\u0131ld\u0131z Noel\u2019e kadar astronomlar\u0131n 100 y\u0131ldan uzun s\u00fcredir \u00f6l\u00e7\u00fcmledi\u011fi en d\u00fc\u015f\u00fck parlakl\u0131k seviyesine ula\u015ft\u0131 ve \u015eubat 2020\u2019ye kadar bu d\u00fc\u015f\u00fc\u015f devam etti.<\/p>\n<p>Guinan durumu fark edip alarm veren ilk ki\u015filerdendi. Meslekta\u015flar\u0131 ile birlikte ilk olarak 7 Aral\u0131k\u2019ta ve sonra tekrar 23 Aral\u0131k\u2019ta <em>The Astronomer\u2019s Telegram<\/em> web sitesine y\u0131ld\u0131z\u0131n s\u00f6n\u00fckle\u015fti\u011fini belirten ve di\u011fer astronomlar\u0131n da duruma g\u00f6z atmalar\u0131n\u0131 \u00f6neren bir bildiri g\u00f6nderdiler.<\/p>\n<p>S\u00f6n\u00fckle\u015fmenin bir s\u00fcpernovan\u0131n habercisi oldu\u011funu d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnmek i\u00e7in asl\u0131nda hi\u00e7bir neden yoktu; Guinan da bu kan\u0131dayd\u0131. Ancak bu patlamalar \u00e7ok nadir ger\u00e7ekle\u015fti\u011finden, astronomlar yak\u0131nda ger\u00e7ekle\u015fecek olan bir s\u00fcpernovan\u0131n nas\u0131l bir sinyal verebilece\u011fi konusunda yeterince bilgi sahibi de\u011filler. Ama Betelgeuse\u2019un ya\u015fl\u0131 bir y\u0131ld\u0131z oldu\u011funu da biliyorduk, ya\u015fam\u0131n\u0131n sonuna yak\u0131nd\u0131.
