Bu durum \u201ckuantum spin (d\u00f6n\u00fc) ak\u0131\u015fkan\u201d (etkile\u015fim halindeki kuantum durumlar\u0131 d\u00fczensiz bir halde oldu\u011fundan ak\u0131\u015fkan olarak adland\u0131r\u0131l\u0131r) olarak biliniyor ve elektronlar\u0131n, yani do\u011fan\u0131n g\u00f6r\u00fcnmez yap\u0131ta\u015flar\u0131n\u0131n par\u00e7alanmas\u0131na sebep oluyor.<\/p>\n<p>Cambridge \u00dcniversitesi\u2019nden fizik\u00e7ileri i\u00e7eren ara\u015ft\u0131rma grubu, grafene benzeyen iki boyutlu bir malzemenin i\u00e7inde Majorana ad\u0131 verilen par\u00e7ac\u0131klar\u0131n izlerini ilk kez \u00f6l\u00e7t\u00fc. Deney sonu\u00e7lar\u0131, Kitaev modeli ad\u0131 verilen teorik model ile ba\u015far\u0131yla e\u015fle\u015fti. Manyetik malzemelerde sakl\u0131 oldu\u011fu d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcl\u00fcyor, fakat do\u011fada g\u00f6zlemlenememi\u015fti. Fakat spin ak\u0131\u015fkan i\u00e7eren bir malzeme mutlak s\u0131f\u0131ra so\u011futulsa bile s\u0131ral\u0131 durmaz ve kuantum dalgalanmalar\u0131ndan kaynaklanan kar\u0131\u015f\u0131k bir \u00e7orba olu\u015fturur.<\/p>\n<p>Cavendish Laboratuvar\u0131\u2019nda Yo\u011fun Madde Teorisi grubundan Dmitry Kovrizhin, \u00e7al\u0131\u015fma sonu\u00e7lanana kadar kuantum spin ak\u0131\u015fkan\u0131n deneysel izlerinin neye benzeyece\u011fini bile bilmediklerini s\u00f6yledi. \u00d6nceki \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131nda yapt\u0131klar\u0131 tek \u015fey, kuantum spin ak\u0131\u015fkan\u0131 g\u00f6zlemleseler ne g\u00f6rebileceklerini sormak oldu.<\/p>\n<p>Ara\u015ft\u0131rmac\u0131lar alfa-ruthenyum klor\u00fcr (a-RuCl<sub>3<\/sub>) i\u00e7inde elektron ayr\u0131\u015fmas\u0131na kan\u0131t bulabilmek i\u00e7in n\u00f6tron sa\u00e7\u0131lmas\u0131 tekniklerini kulland\u0131. a-RuCl<sub>3<\/sub> tozu, maddenin manyetik \u00f6zelliklerini test edebilmek i\u00e7in n\u00f6tronlarla uyar\u0131ld\u0131 ve n\u00f6tronlar maddeden sektikleri zaman ekrana yans\u0131yan dalgac\u0131klar\u0131n deseni g\u00f6zlemlendi.<\/p>\n<p>Bilinen bir m\u0131knat\u0131s ayr\u0131 ve keskin \u00e7izgiler yarat\u0131rd\u0131 ama, Majorana fermiyonlar\u0131n\u0131n kuantum spin ak\u0131\u015fkan durumundayken nas\u0131l bir desen yaratacaklar\u0131 bilinmiyordu. 2014\u2019de Knolle ve ekibinin yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 teorik tahmin, keskin \u00e7izgiler yerine deneycilerin ekranda g\u00f6rd\u00fc\u011f\u00fc geni\u015f kamburlarla \u00e7ok iyi e\u015fle\u015fti.
