Bu a\u00e7\u0131dan bak\u0131ld\u0131\u011f\u0131nda Kolmogorov\u2019a g\u00f6re onun 13, say\u0131lar teorisinde d\u00fcnyaca \u00fcnl\u00fc ke\u015fiflere imza atm\u0131\u015f ve 92 ya\u015f\u0131nda \u00f6lene kadar Sovyetlerin \u201cBilim Olimpi\u201dndeki konumunu korumay\u0131 ba\u015farm\u0131\u015f Vinogradov\u2019un ise sadece 9 (?!) ya\u015f\u0131 varm\u0131\u015f. \u0130\u015fte \u201c\u00e7ocuk matematik\u00e7iler\u201d!<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>Asl\u0131nda bu yaz\u0131da ele al\u0131nan konular\u0131 y\u0131llar y\u0131l\u0131 i\u00e7imde ta\u015f\u0131m\u0131\u015f\u0131md\u0131r ve yeri geldik\u00e7e k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck dostlar\u0131ma, \u00f6\u011frencilerime ve arkada\u015flar\u0131ma bunlardan bahsetmi\u015fim ki, k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fckler i\u00e7in \u00f6\u011f\u00fct alma, b\u00fcy\u00fckler i\u00e7inse esasen \u00f6\u011f\u00fct verebilme i\u00e7in malzeme olsunlar. Buna g\u00f6re yaz\u0131n\u0131n muhataplar\u0131n\u0131 tespit etmek o kadar da zor olmasa gerek; bunlar gen\u00e7ler, evlad\u0131na maddiyat\u0131n d\u0131\u015f\u0131nda bir \u015fey vermek isteyen veliler ve nihayet e\u011fitim sekt\u00f6r\u00fcnde \u00e7al\u0131\u015fanlard\u0131r elbette.<\/p>\n<p>E\u011fer yaz\u0131ya ba\u015flaman\u0131n net bir nedeni var m\u0131d\u0131r diye sorarsak, cevab\u0131 evet olacak. Ve bu neden, ge\u00e7en e\u011fitim y\u0131l\u0131nda Gebze Mutlukent \u0130lk\u00f6\u011fretim Okulu 5A s\u0131n\u0131f\u0131ndan olan Halil Temurta\u015f adl\u0131 bir \u00f6\u011frencinin, s\u0131n\u0131f \u00f6\u011fretmenleri Nuray Elifo\u011flu ba\u015fkanl\u0131\u011f\u0131nda tak\u0131m olarak \u00e7\u0131karmak istedikleri <em>Matematik Dergisi<\/em> i\u00e7in benimle yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 r\u00f6portaj olmu\u015ftur diyebilirim. Eski Sovyet d\u00f6neminde esasen liselilere y\u00f6nelik, fizik matematik i\u00e7erikli \u00e7ok me\u015fhur ve geni\u015f yay\u0131n alan\u0131na sahip bir dergi vard\u0131: <em>Kvant<\/em> (Quantum)! Bu dergide standart olmayan, ilgin\u00e7 konular\u0131n yan\u0131 s\u0131ra, \u00fcnl\u00fc matematik\u00e7i ve fizik\u00e7ilerle yap\u0131lan samimi r\u00f6portajlara da zaman zaman yer verilirdi. \u0130\u015fte benimle yap\u0131lan r\u00f6portaj s\u0131ras\u0131nda, daha geni\u015f bir toplum i\u00e7in bu \u00fcnl\u00fclerle \u201cg\u0131yab\u0131nda r\u00f6portaj yapma\u201d iste\u011fi kafamda ve g\u00f6nl\u00fcmde iyice yer etmi\u015fti.<\/p>\n<p>Yaz\u0131n\u0131n ad\u0131na geldi\u011fimizde, onda iki \u015feyin sakl\u0131 oldu\u011funu s\u00f6ylemem laz\u0131m. Birincisi \u00fcnl\u00fc bilim adamlar\u0131n\u0131n, o s\u0131radan \u00fcnl\u00fc matematik\u00e7ilerin \u00e7ocukluk y\u0131llar\u0131 genelde ilgin\u00e7 hikayelerle zengin olur. Ger\u00e7i bunlar\u0131n baz\u0131lar\u0131 onlar me\u015fhur olduktan sonra uydurulmu\u015f latifeler olabilir. Ama olsun, Sadi \u015eirazi\u2019nin uydurdu\u011fu latifeler d\u00fcnya \u00e7ap\u0131nda bir didaktik e\u011fitim arac\u0131 olabiliyorsa, \u00f6teki iyi latifeler (edebi \u00f6rnekler) neden bu hakka sahip olmas\u0131n? \u00d6te yandan ge\u00e7en asr\u0131n nerdeyse en \u00fcnl\u00fc matematik\u00e7ilerinden olan Kolmogorov\u2019un d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcncesine g\u00f6re, as\u0131l matematik yetene\u011fi \u00f6ylesine bir \u015fey ki, bir defa seni sahiplendi mi, \u00f6teki yeteneklerin a\u015fa\u011f\u0131 yukar\u0131 hepsi \u00fczerinde dominant olarak, t\u0131pk\u0131 nohutlarda sar\u0131 renk ye\u015fili bast\u0131rd\u0131\u011f\u0131 gibi onlar\u0131 bast\u0131r\u0131r. Samimi olarak s\u00f6yl\u00fcyorum ki, k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fckken t\u00fcm dersleri ayn\u0131 derecede \u201cseverdim\u201d ve ders \u00f6\u011fretmenlerimin bu alanda, iyi veya k\u00f6t\u00fc y\u00f6nde bir katk\u0131 sa\u011flad\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 hat\u0131rlam\u0131yorum. \u00d6\u011fretmenim nas\u0131l davran\u0131rsa davrans\u0131n, ben derslerimi ayn\u0131 derecede \u201cmerak ediyordum\u201d, t\u0131pk\u0131 tutucu bir film seyredercesine. \u0130lave edeyim ki, bu merak\u0131n hem de bir yar\u0131\u015fma, sportif y\u00f6n\u00fc vard\u0131 bana g\u00f6re ve bu yar\u0131\u015fmada en fazla ba\u015far\u0131y\u0131 matematikte sa\u011flard\u0131m genellikle.<\/p>\n<p>2) En be\u011fendi\u011finiz matematik bilgini kimdir? Maddi \u00e2lemde insan \u00e7ok fazla \u015feyi sahiplenemiyor ve sahiplenebilse bile onun ta\u015f\u0131nmas\u0131 zor olurdu herhalde. Manevi \u00e2lemde b\u00f6yle bir problem yok ve t\u00fcm b\u00fcy\u00fck matematik\u00e7ileri, \u201cmatematik\u00e7ilerden olu\u015fan s\u0131ra da\u011flar\u0131n\u0131n zirveleri\u201dnin t\u00fcm\u00fcn\u00fc be\u011fenmenin bir sak\u0131ncas\u0131 olmasa gerek ve ben de onlar\u0131n hepsini ayn\u0131 derecede be\u011feniyorum. \u015eunu belirtmeliyim ki, bu \u201czirve\u201dlerin say\u0131s\u0131 hi\u00e7 de san\u0131ld\u0131\u011f\u0131 kadar \u00e7ok de\u011fildir. \u0130sim s\u00f6ylemek gerekirse, Ruslardan Kolmogorov ve Vinogradov, Almanlardan Gauss ve Hilbert, \u0130ngilizlerden Newton ve Hardy, Frans\u0131zlardan Cauchy ve Poincare, \u0130talyanlardan Volterra, Hintlilerden Ramanujan, Polonya\u2019dan Banach ve T\u00fcrkiye\u2019den Cahit Arf\u2019\u0131n isimlerini zikir edebiliriz. Tabii ki, 6. s\u0131n\u0131fta her iki g\u00f6z\u00fcn\u00fc kaybetmesine ra\u011fmen, d\u00fcnya matemati\u011finde bir zirve konumuna y\u00fckselmeyi ba\u015farm\u0131\u015f Lev Semyonovi\u00e7 Pontryagin\u2019i de hat\u0131rlarsak, ruhu \u015fad olurdu herhalde.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00c7ocuk \u00e7ocuklu\u011fundan\u2026 ve onun geli\u015fmesinde ailenin rol\u00fc<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Her alanda oldu\u011fu gibi, matematik e\u011fitiminde de iyi bir sonu\u00e7 elde etmenin yolu, do\u011fas\u0131nda uygun yeteneklerin oldu\u011fu tespit edilen \u00e7ocuklar\u0131n do\u011fru y\u00f6nlendirilmesidir. Burada aile, okul ve devlet \u00fc\u00e7genine d\u00fc\u015fen g\u00f6rev, ger\u00e7ekten gayret g\u00f6steren \u00f6\u011frenciyi her t\u00fcrl\u00fc korumak ve kollamakt\u0131r. Bildi\u011fim kadar\u0131yla Osmanl\u0131 d\u00f6neminde \u201cdev\u015firme\u201d denilen y\u00f6ntem, esasen harp alan\u0131nda bu ama\u00e7la kullan\u0131lm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Kanuni Sultan S\u00fcleyman\u2019\u0131n b\u00fcy\u00fck veziri ve damad\u0131 olman\u0131n yan\u0131 s\u0131ra, \u0130vo Andri\u00e7\u2019in Nobel \u00f6d\u00fcl\u00fcne lay\u0131k g\u00f6r\u00fclm\u00fc\u015f \u00fcnl\u00fc kitab\u0131na konu olan Drina K\u00f6pr\u00fcs\u00fc\u2019n\u00fcn de kurucusu olarak ad\u0131 tarihe ge\u00e7en Sokullu Mehmet Pa\u015fa bu dev\u015firmelerin en \u00fcnl\u00fclerindendi.<\/p>\n<p>Eski Sovyetler Birli\u011fi\u2019nde nerdeyse ilkokuldan ba\u015flayarak, her d\u00fczeyde s\u00fcrekli yap\u0131lan matematik olimpiyatlar\u0131 da dev\u015firmenin bir ba\u015fka t\u00fcr\u00fc idi. Bu olimpiyatlarda belli d\u00fczeye y\u00fckselebilen \u00f6\u011frenciler, s\u0131nav yap\u0131lmaks\u0131z\u0131n uygun \u00fcniversitelerin matematik b\u00f6l\u00fcmlerine al\u0131n\u0131rlard\u0131. Bunlar\u0131n en parlak \u00f6rneklerinden bir tanesi, son zamanlar ismi fla\u015f haberler listesinde yer alm\u0131\u015f Saint Petersburg\u2019lu Grigori Perelman\u2019d\u0131r ki, hen\u00fcz 16 ya\u015f\u0131ndayken Macaristan\u2019da yap\u0131lan D\u00fcnya Matematik Olimpiyat\u0131\u2019n\u0131n alt\u0131n madalyas\u0131n\u0131, hem de en y\u00fcksek puanla kazanmay\u0131 ba\u015farm\u0131\u015f ve bunun sonucunda Petersburg \u00dcniversitesi\u2019nin matematik b\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fcne s\u0131nav yap\u0131lmadan al\u0131nm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Son zamanlar onu me\u015fhur eden olay ise, y\u00fcz y\u0131ll\u0131k tarihi olan Poincare Problemi\u2019ne \u00e7\u00f6z\u00fcm bulmas\u0131 olmu\u015ftur ki, bu nedenle Madrid\u2019de yap\u0131lan D\u00fcnya Matematik Kongresi\u2019nde ona, prestijine g\u00f6re \u201cMatemati\u011fin Nobeli\u201d diye de tan\u0131nan Filds \u00d6d\u00fcl\u00fc ve Madalyas\u0131 verilmi\u015ftir. Bunun d\u0131\u015f\u0131nda, \u00e7\u00f6z\u00fclen problem 1 milyon dolarl\u0131k fiyat bi\u00e7ilmi\u015f me\u015fhur \u201cMillenium\u201d problemlerinden oldu\u011fu i\u00e7in daha baz\u0131 \u00f6d\u00fcllere de aday olacak gibi g\u00f6z\u00fck\u00fcyor. Meselenin ilgin\u00e7 yan\u0131 ise \u015fu ki, t\u00fcm bu \u00f6d\u00fcller, man\u015fetler ve benzerleri sanki adam\u0131n ilgisini \u00e7ekmiyor, tam tersine nerdeyse hasta ediyormu\u015f. \u0130\u015fte, \u00e7ocuk matematik\u00e7i \u00f6rneklerinden son bir tanesi. \u0130lave edelim ki, Perelman \u00fcniversitede her zaman d\u00fczenli \u00e7al\u0131\u015fm\u0131\u015f, notlar\u0131 s\u00fcrekli pekiyi olmu\u015f ve kendisini ge\u00e7indirecek d\u00fczeyde \u00f6zel burs alm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r.<\/p>\n<p>Elbette her alanda oldu\u011fu gibi, bu alanda da standartlara ters d\u00fc\u015fen \u00f6rnekler yok de\u011fildiler ve bunlar\u0131n belki de en parlak \u00f6rne\u011fi, 20. y\u00fczy\u0131l ba\u015flar\u0131nda \u0130ngiltere\u2019nin s\u00f6m\u00fcrgesi konumunda olan Hindistan\u2019da yeti\u015fmi\u015f dahi matematik\u00e7i Sirinivasa Ramanujan\u2019d\u0131r hi\u00e7 \u015f\u00fcphesiz. \u00dcniversitenin 1. s\u0131n\u0131f\u0131nda b\u0131rak\u0131lmas\u0131na ra\u011fmen, kendi gayretleri ve matemati\u011fe olan a\u015f\u0131r\u0131 tutkusu sayesinde hen\u00fcz 30 ya\u015f\u0131n\u0131 doldurmadan Cambridge \u00dcniversitesi\u2019nin profes\u00f6r\u00fc ve Londra Kraliyet Camias\u0131n\u0131n \u00fcyeli\u011fi gibi \u015ferefli unvanlara talip olmu\u015ftur. Ekleyelim ki, o d\u00f6nemin \u00fcst d\u00fczey matematik\u00e7ilerinden olan Harold Hardy ile kar\u015f\u0131la\u015fmas\u0131 a\u00e7\u0131s\u0131ndan, Ramanujan\u2019\u0131n \u015fans\u0131 da yaver gitmi\u015ftir denilebilir. Maalesef, bu ba\u015far\u0131lar\u0131ndan sonra kendi vatan\u0131nda da de\u011fer kazanan ve Madras \u00dcniversitesi\u2019nde profes\u00f6r k\u00fcrs\u00fcs\u00fcne atanan \u00fcnl\u00fc matematik\u00e7i, g\u00f6revine ba\u015flamadan ya\u015fama veda etmi\u015ftir.<\/p>\n<p>Benzer bir olay\u0131 da Sovyetler Birli\u011fi\u2019nden aktaral\u0131m ki, manzara tam olsun. 20. y\u00fczy\u0131l\u0131n b\u00fcy\u00fck matematik\u00e7ilerinden say\u0131lan \u0130. M. Gelfand 1930 y\u0131l\u0131nda, hen\u00fcz 16 ya\u015f\u0131nda, lise diplomas\u0131z ve paras\u0131z, bin bir zorluklarla y\u00fczle\u015ferek, Karadeniz k\u0131y\u0131s\u0131ndaki Odessa\u2019dan Moskova\u2019ya uzak akrabalar\u0131ndan birinin yan\u0131na gelmi\u015ftir. Ge\u00e7imini sa\u011flamak \u00fczere her t\u00fcrl\u00fc i\u015flerde \u00e7al\u0131\u015fan gelece\u011fin me\u015fhur matematik\u00e7isi, kendini yeti\u015ftirmek amac\u0131yla zaman\u0131n\u0131n \u00e7o\u011funu merkezi Lenin k\u00fct\u00fcphanesinde ge\u00e7irmi\u015f, hatta bir s\u00fcre orada gece bek\u00e7isi olarak da \u00e7al\u0131\u015fm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Bu s\u0131rada Moskova \u00dcniversitesi \u00f6\u011frencileriyle tan\u0131\u015fl\u0131k onu \u00f6nce \u00fcniversitedeki matematik seminerlerine, daha sonra ise g\u00f6stermi\u015f oldu\u011fu yeteneklerinden dolay\u0131, \u00fcnl\u00fc Kolmogorov\u2019un doktora \u00f6\u011frencili\u011fine kadar g\u00f6t\u00fcrm\u00fc\u015ft\u00fcr. Bu seminer asl\u0131nda bir tiyatro oyununu, Gelfand\u2019\u0131n kendisi ise Nejat Uygur\u2019u an\u0131msat\u0131yordu \u015fimdi anlad\u0131\u011f\u0131m kadar\u0131yla. Yani insanlar bu seminerde hem bilgi, hem keyif, hem de ve en esas\u0131, gelecek \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131 i\u00e7in enerji, motivasyon buluyorlard\u0131. Buras\u0131 hem seni anlayabilecek ki\u015filerle bir bulu\u015fma mek\u00e2n\u0131yd\u0131 diyebilirim. Seminer her zaman 1 saat ge\u00e7 ba\u015flard\u0131 ve bu saat i\u00e7erisinde kat\u0131l\u0131mc\u0131lar hem kendi aralar\u0131nda, hem de Gelfand\u2019la serbest konu\u015fma ve tart\u0131\u015fma f\u0131rsat\u0131 buluyorlard\u0131. \u0130lave edelim ki, \u00fcniversitede yap\u0131lan seminerlerin nerdeyse hepsinde geleneksel olarak bu tarz h\u00fckm\u00fcn\u00fc s\u00fcrd\u00fcrmekteydi.<\/p>\n<p>Kendi memleketinde Bilim Akademisinin as\u0131l \u00fcyesi olmad\u0131\u011f\u0131 halde, Fransa Akademisine as\u0131l \u00fcye se\u00e7ilmi\u015fti ve bununla \u00e7ok gururluydu, onlar\u0131n g\u00f6nderdikleri dergileri kimi zamanlar seminer s\u0131ras\u0131nda koltu\u011funda ta\u015f\u0131rd\u0131 hatta. S\u00fcrekli tekrarlad\u0131\u011f\u0131 iki \u015fey vard\u0131: seminerde konu\u015fma yapan\u0131n y\u00fcce sesle konu\u015fmas\u0131n\u0131 isterdi. Neden olarak, y\u00fcceden anlakl\u0131 \u015fekilde konu\u015fan birisini bir \u201cak\u0131ll\u0131\u201d adam\u0131n duymas\u0131 ve onun yanl\u0131\u015flar\u0131n\u0131 d\u00fczeltebilmesi ihtimalinin hayli b\u00fcy\u00fck olmas\u0131n\u0131 ileri s\u00fcrerdi. Soru soran bir \u00f6\u011frenciye ise geleneksel olarak, \u201c\u015eimdi bunu sana bir daha \u00f6ylesine anlat\u0131r\u0131m ki, hatta say\u0131n profes\u00f6rler de anlam\u0131\u015f olacaklar nerdeyse\u201d derdi. San\u0131r\u0131m Gelfand seminerlerini tatl\u0131 tuzlu eden nedenlerden bir tanesi de kat\u0131l\u0131mc\u0131lara, makam\u0131na bakmaks\u0131z\u0131n yap\u0131lan bu t\u00fcr yakla\u015f\u0131mlard\u0131 hem de.<\/p>\n<p>Matematik bir bilim dal\u0131 olarak yap\u0131s\u0131 itibariyle esasen gen\u00e7lerin bilimidir diyebiliriz. Bundan dolay\u0131d\u0131r ki, b\u00fcy\u00fck matematik\u00e7iler en parlak ke\u015fiflerini esasen gen\u00e7 ya\u015flar\u0131nda yapm\u0131\u015f olurlar. \u201cMatematik\u00e7ilerin kral\u0131\u201d gibi \u015ferefli bir lakaba mahzar olmu\u015f Alman Gauss\u2019un matemati\u011fi meslek olarak se\u00e7mesine neden olan \u015fey, onun hen\u00fcz 19 ya\u015f\u0131nda varm\u0131\u015f oldu\u011fu bir ger\u00e7ekti: Kenar say\u0131lar\u0131 asal olan d\u00fczg\u00fcn \u00e7okgenin cetvel ve pergel yard\u0131m\u0131yla \u00e7izilmesi i\u00e7in bu say\u0131n\u0131n Fermat\u2019\u0131n asal say\u0131s\u0131 olmas\u0131 gerekmekteydi.
