Su pireleri asl\u0131nda \u00e7evremizde s\u0131k\u00e7a rastlanan bir t\u00fcrd\u00fcr. D\u00fcnyan\u0131n her taraf\u0131nda, parklardaki havuzlardan b\u00fcy\u00fck g\u00f6llere kadar her t\u00fcrl\u00fc su birikintisinde ya\u015farlar, mikroskobik hayvan ve yosunlar\u0131 yiyerek beslenirler.<\/p>\n<p>Su pirelerinin \u00e7ok say\u0131da \u00f6zelli\u011fi onlar\u0131 deneylerde kullanmaya m\u00fcsait k\u0131lm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. K\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck olmalar\u0131 ve h\u0131zl\u0131 \u00fcremeleri, laboratuarda kolayca bar\u0131nd\u0131r\u0131p farkl\u0131 ko\u015fullara tepkilerini \u00f6l\u00e7meye ve nesiller boyu g\u00f6zlem gerektiren evrimsel de\u011fi\u015fimleri k\u0131sa s\u00fcrelerde g\u00f6zlemlemeye olanak verir. Su pireleri ayr\u0131ca, her bir bireyin \u00e7evredeki de\u011fi\u015fimlere kar\u015f\u0131 ani tepkiler verme, \u00f6rne\u011fin v\u00fccutlar\u0131n\u0131 yeni \u015fekillere sokma yetenekleriyle de tan\u0131n\u0131rlar. Bu \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmada bilimciler, bir g\u00f6l\u00fcn farkl\u0131 y\u0131llara ait katmanlar\u0131n\u0131 kazarak, \u2018uykuya yatm\u0131\u015f\u2019 (diyapoz halindeki) su piresi yumurtalar\u0131n\u0131 ve ayn\u0131 d\u00f6nemlere ait parazitleri \u00e7\u0131kard\u0131lar. Buna kar\u015f\u0131n parazitler de nesiller boyu evrilerek su pirelerini hasta edecek yeni \u00f6zellikler geli\u015ftirmi\u015flerdi. 39 y\u0131ll\u0131k bir kesitte parazit ile kona\u011f\u0131n \u2018kar\u015f\u0131l\u0131kl\u0131 m\u00fccadelesi\u2019 durmaks\u0131z\u0131n devam etmi\u015fti.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Yaz\u0131n e\u015feysiz, k\u0131\u015fa do\u011fru e\u015feyli \u00fcreme<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Su pirelerinin model olarak kullan\u0131ld\u0131\u011f\u0131 alanlardan biri de \u00fcreme bi\u00e7imi ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar\u0131d\u0131r. Su pirelerinin ya\u015fam d\u00f6ng\u00fcleri ilgin\u00e7tir. \u00c7o\u011fu zaman di\u015filer erkeksiz \u00fcrer ve kendi klonlar\u0131 (genetik kopyalar\u0131) olan yeni di\u015filer \u00fcretirler. Klonlanmak, e\u015feyli \u00fcremeye g\u00f6re \u00e7ok daha az maliyetli bir y\u00f6ntemdir; birey, e\u015f bulmak ve \u00e7iftle\u015fmek zorunda de\u011fildir. Bu sayede yeni nesillerde \u00e7e\u015fitlilik ve zorlu ko\u015fullara dayanacak genetik \u00f6zelliklere sahip olma ihtimali artar. Oysa \u00e7o\u011fu hayvan genomu \u00e7ok daha az say\u0131da gen i\u00e7erir: \u00f6rne\u011fin sirke sine\u011finin 14 bin geni, insan ve fare gibi memelilerin yakla\u015f\u0131k 20 bin geni var.<\/p>\n<p>Ancak as\u0131l \u015fa\u015f\u0131rt\u0131c\u0131 sonu\u00e7, bu genlerin y\u00fczde 36\u2019s\u0131n\u0131n ba\u015fka hi\u00e7bir canl\u0131da bir benzerinin, yani akrabas\u0131n\u0131n bulunmamas\u0131yd\u0131. Su piresinin atalar\u0131, di\u011fer kabuklularla ortak genlerinin \u00f6nemli k\u0131sm\u0131n\u0131 kaybetmi\u015flerdi. \u00d6te yandan mutasyonla kazand\u0131klar\u0131 ya da de\u011fi\u015ftirdikleri \u00e7ok say\u0131da geni de milyonlarca y\u0131l boyunca e\u015fleyerek \u00e7o\u011faltm\u0131\u015flard\u0131. Bir \u00f6rnek: insanda \u0131\u015f\u0131k alg\u0131lamaya yarayan yaln\u0131zca birka\u00e7 opsin geni varken, su piresinde bu gen ailesinin 50\u2019ye yak\u0131n \u00fcyesi bulunuyor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Gen e\u015flenmesi ve sonu\u00e7lar\u0131<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Su piresinin genomunu \u015fi\u015firen gen e\u015flenmesi, t\u00fcm canl\u0131larda rastlanan bir olgu. En s\u0131k ya\u015fanan vaka \u015f\u00f6yledir: H\u00fccre ikiye b\u00f6l\u00fcn\u00fcrken, h\u00fccre genomu kendi kopyas\u0131n\u0131 sentezler. Bu s\u0131rada ger\u00e7ekle\u015fen basit hatalar, bir DNA dizisinin iki defa sentezlenmesine yol a\u00e7ar. Bu DNA dizisi bir gen kodluyorsa, yeni h\u00fccrelerden birinde ayn\u0131 gen iki defa bulunur.<\/p>\n<p>Bu o kadar yayg\u0131n bir hatad\u0131r ki, \u00e7o\u011fu pop\u00fclasyonda bireyler aras\u0131nda ciddi miktarda gen kopya say\u0131s\u0131 \u00e7e\u015fitlili\u011fi g\u00f6r\u00fcl\u00fcr. Bu \u00e7e\u015fitlilik insanlarda da mevcuttur &#8211; yani baz\u0131 genler birimizde tek kopya, di\u011ferinde \u00fc\u00e7 kopya olabilir. Bu yeni \u00f6zellikler canl\u0131n\u0131n kimi ihtiya\u00e7lar\u0131na denk geliyorsa, yeni kopya yine pozitif se\u00e7ilimle nesilden nesle yay\u0131l\u0131p, sabitlenebilir.<\/p>\n<p>Ara\u015ft\u0131rmac\u0131lar, su piresi genomunda gen kopyalar\u0131n\u0131n ne zaman ve nas\u0131l do\u011fdu\u011funu da \u00f6l\u00e7t\u00fcler. Genlerin e\u015flenme tarihini, benzer t\u00fcrler aras\u0131nda DNA dizisinin farkl\u0131la\u015fmas\u0131n\u0131 kullanarak hesaplad\u0131lar. Sonu\u00e7lar, su piresinde genlerin, di\u011fer omurgas\u0131zlara g\u00f6re 3 kat daha h\u0131zl\u0131, insana g\u00f6re ise y\u00fczde 30 daha h\u0131zl\u0131 kopyaland\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 g\u00f6sterdi.<\/p>\n<p>\u0130lgin\u00e7 bi\u00e7imde, su piresi genomunda e\u015flenme yoluyla yeni ortaya \u00e7\u0131kan genlerin \u00e7o\u011funlu\u011fu, farkl\u0131 \u00e7evre ko\u015fullar\u0131na yan\u0131t veren metabolik genlerdi. Bu t\u00fcr genler \u00f6rne\u011fin a\u015f\u0131r\u0131 s\u0131cak veya tuzlu su gibi ko\u015fullarda aktif hale gelmekteydiler. Yani e\u015flenme ve yeni gen kazanma e\u011filimi, su pirelerinin farkl\u0131 \u00e7evre ko\u015fullar\u0131na uyumunu artt\u0131rm\u0131\u015f gibi g\u00f6r\u00fcn\u00fcyor.
